how does the single clutch downshift so well? I have a genesis r-spec 5.0 sedan and singles like mine have jerky downshifts (unless you apply throttle). nothing like an audi or bmw DCT
Great engine mated to a lethargic transmission. The shifts are so slow. What was Lexus thinking 🤔? And what's with the car key? Insert it? $30K Lexuses have keyless entry and start.
Wow---"this is INSANE" is an understatement. The sound is still one of the best engineered from a car EVER! It is truly legendary. Thanks for sharing with us Tedward!
@@slargo83 the fact that this is the only car that had the exhaust tuned by a musical instrument company puts it into a league of its own...but also it can make some people dismiss it as "the car that just sounds good"
and so is the underglow, I get that people who like jdm like that kind of stuff, but this isn't something you should be messing around with, it's an LFA for crying out loud
@@greenscreenmachine6405 lexus dont have fake speaker sound dude there's tubing tha runs into cabin from engine for the best experience do. You really think this car needs fake sound its not GR yaris dude
I can only assume they swapped out wheels to let the OEMs sit in a lovely storage bin until they're ready to sell this. Stock wheels are probably hilariously more expensive than these already expensive HREs.
Im Japanese and my dad was involved in the development, that speedometer and wire harness were designed and produced by the company my dad works for as a developer. That’s one of the few things I'm proud of😊
The level of engineering and details in this car is insane. The shift with the cuts, no crackle pop bang stuff, just pure high revving na v10 made to sing. Thank you so much because this car feels so forgotten sometimes but to me, this has the perfect amount of engineers pushed so far, and man those shifts, omg.
And let me tell ya, even though it had a single clutch transmission, it still shifts decently fast. As much as people talk about DCT's being better, I kinda miss that short power interruption of a single-clutch unit, so I say this car is, for all intents and purposes... *Perfect* .
@@Roddy_Zeh Oh yeah totally agree with you. Dual clutches are good for numbers only, and they are smooth for every day can't take that away, but where is the drama, I mean this is what is the closest to a manual, a nice sharp cut between gears and that downshift blip. I love this car so much
@@Chair991 flashed / tuned, maybe, but factory form, nobody cares, people want to be fast to the 0.01 sec wank thing, the only drama you get is that stupid fart on upshift and bang on downshift. Dct's are made to be faster and smoother because of the dual clutches, make them work against what they were designed for makes no sense
This car was never designed to compete with the best of the best, ergo the 10-year production. But that sound. That sound sank every other supercar ever. That sound is what I want to hear when I die and I ascend into heaven if it exists. Every time I hear an LFA my eyes tear up. Nothing sounds as good as this. Anything this compares to is classical music, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and Tchaikovsky. A true symphony of sound.
@@bukaratmuhammad9995 Well, in my opinion for the M5 and the CGT they didn't focus as much on how the car sounds, the CGT literally has an engine meant for a racecar under the hood and the M5 is a sedan with a V10 engine which is already insane enough but they didn't quite sound like the LFA. Don't get me wrong they both sound amazing but they don't sound as good because Lexus actually hired Yamaha to tune the car's exhaust so that it sounds godlike. Again this is my opinion and I may be wrong because I wasn't lucky enough to hear any of those cars in real life. I just realised that's quite a long paragraph 😂 lol.
@Yurmums Vajeje Taste is relative. The wheel turns, it works. And it certainly does not detract from it's Performance so I wouldn't call it rice. Furthermore pristine LFAs already exist anyway. And others are Modded more to your taste too. I celebrate the variety.
The wheels look horrible. The style doesn't fit this car, and the choice of color is also bad. They might look good on some other car though. Like some old Jaguar restomod or something...
@@estanislao7964 Exactly. Some say, neither Lexus nor Yamaha do know or remember how to built a car like this anymore... Emission regulations shouldn't be the problem with a car that is built like a couple thousand times like a Bugatti.
finally a recording inside the car that does it justice. honeslty it baffles me how many people who reviewed this car utterly failed because they just dont get it: that sound is to be worshipped. They should be hundreds of high quality clips of it both from outside and inside the car but there just aren't. This car is a hidden gem.
@@joelramos3504 at the end of the day it's it's gt car lol and lots of people do care. I don't care but it is a flaw. What about the transmission it is very slow compared to others.
Why would you ever replace the LFA wheels. And if you were to replace them…. WITH THESE?? Must have got COVID after purchasing it because the owner has clearly lost his taste
@@gwc597 see, the difference between the comment and your reply is that the comment is something everyone can agree on, and your reply is just a personal opinion followed by the * which "corrects" the original comment. dude
@@sasalolic999 Japanese fanboys, which I doubt they are, are much less crazy than the Germans per sé. They actually a decent car to back up their claims, at least with Toyota and Lexus. This all coming from a BMW guy
@@sasalolic999 Im saying Lexus and Toyota generally have better reliability, fit and finish, and durability than their German rivals at similar price points. Don’t assume my implications. I’m aware what the Germans are capable of
The first five seconds of this video are an absolute masterclass in how to hook your viewer. Literally just explode into the video with EXACTLY what the viewers want to see. This whole video is just such a treat. Thank you dude 🙏
The sound man… the fucking sound… It’s so beautiful. The build quality/design of it is so impressive as well, really holds up after even 10 years. It doesn’t look or feel too outdated.
@@luka_abh no no no. gated is cool and all but it makes shifting so slow. i'd like a good manual that makes me want to slam it into the next gear as quickly as i can :)
Absolute dream car. This was the first video of Tedwards that I watched and I come back to it when it pops up because damn... that engine just sounds too good
I saw a Taycan and Model S (not plaid) do a green light race and I'm gonna have to disagree with that. My windows were up and my ears perked up instantly and I was actually in awe
What I love about the LFA, is that to any person that isn’t into cars, they will think that this is just another Lexus sports car. But little do they know…
Watching it again, I'm still getting goosebumps from that exhaust. What I really like about this is how you manage to show some of the *quirks and features*, but you mix it with POV driving and excellent audio. Kind of appeals to everyone. This'll be a hit for sure!!
I think its a very fair statement to say that the lfa will by far forever be the greatest sounding naturally aspirated v10 ever built. The sound of the acceleration is absolutely incredible paired with the way the single clutch transmission shifts through gears makes it truly a work of art.
6:12 when it was released it was one of the fastest road gearboxes, faster than many dsgs. A funny fact is that many people never realized that depending on how you press the lever it changes faster or slower
The beauty of any Lexus is, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like Merc or Ferrari, But it always works well to the fullest and more importantly for an eternity.
I love these because I think most people wouldn’t know it from an LC. You get to drive an unbelievable supercar without everyone staring at you like an aventador
Every time I see or hear the LFA I love it more than before. It’s proportions are just about perfect, and the sound… people complained about the price back in the day but seems like a bargain these days
man the noise you get in a v10 engine is harmonious. sounds like a e60 m5. what a car, it is just a bit outdated but the engine sound is something else. everyone complains about clunky single clutch but it adds to the character of the car.
Wow, this thing sounds beefy and its classy. I love that it handles diff types of driving. The road grip and the steering are astounding! 5 star car. Great video!
Never cared much for the exterior styling, but do like the interior…and that engine…that is just a beautiful sounding machine at work there! Awesome review…thanks for sharing with us!
What an absolutely astonishing car even after all these years it really is one of a kind. You've done the engine justice with this video, eyes closed with open-back headphones, it really sounds like I'm sat in one! Thanks!
I was feeling so tripped out by this video till I realized this is the exact road I drive to work on, and at 6:45 he tested the brakes in the exact same spot I tested my brakes on my Subaru outback LMAO. Very smart of him to test the car on this road, there hasn't been a cop there in years.
"Ah yes, I've just bought one of the best and most beautiful supercars ever made, now I shall put the wheels off of a 2003 Toyota Corolla base on it." -the guys who owns this LFA, probably. Excellent video as always, Mr. Tedward.
Except he never actually reved it to 9000rpm whilst driving. Maybe when the car was stoped and in neutral but whilst driving highest I saw was about 8300rpm
A dealership near me in Illinois just put a brand new one on bring a trailer and it sold for a lot more than msrp so you might be able to buy one new but not for sticker lol
How does that make any sense- they aren't selling but they are appreciating? New cars just sitting there because no one buys them are going up in value?
@@trashbandit2449 They sell for more in dealership, as used already have mile and wear on them so people decide to but those instead of paying dealership price, and there only avaliable in select deelers. But I can see why that would be odd
I’m in love with this car. Always have been. Got to see one here in New Zealand on a racetrack. One had popped up for sale at Lexus NZ so they sent one from Singapore to demo at a big racing event for advertising. I have just today bought Sony XM4 noise cancelling headphones. I’ve heard binaural audio in shitty headphones. But holy shit this is insane
Engine braking looked pretty wild! I feel if you spend a little more time with these single clutch transmissions they grow on you especially when your pushing it. Great review!
Dude, the “problem” with seeing these on the road or how the LFA was sold was deliberate, and at ~450K, the car is undoubtedly a collector's car that will appreciate in value and represent Lexus brand image as a ultra-premium car brand.
Jezus, never had such a weird, tingling, energetic rushing thru my body by watching this video. Felt so real from the time it started up and shifting, this car and this video just amazing!
