DRONE CRASH at APPLE PARK Caught on Camera

A drone crashed into Apple Park over the weekend. The drone pilot got in touch with me shortly after the incident to inquire if I could assist in locating the downed drone. I was happy to oblige, so I took a Phantom 4 Pro out and began searching for it. It was eventually located on the Solar Roof and appeared to be intact for the most part.
The drone operator has gotten in touch with Apple and notified them of the drone crash and it remains to be seen, whether the operator will get his crashed drone back.
Thanks to the drone operator for allowing me to use his footage from the crash.

It's not that simple - his friend would seriously risk losing his drone too since not all drones can carry it's weight + other drone + hook + first person view to properly TRY to attach the hook and take off carrying all that weight.

It was more of a joke comment because drones can barely carry any more weight than they themselves weigh. It’s a shame it crashed but I don’t think the friend who flew the drone out to find it is an a-hole for not fishing it out

I'm guessing it's a short, it seemed as if it spontaneously fell in mid air, caught itself and started falling again. I'd love to hear updates on it.

He doesn't deserve to get it back. He had no business flying it thru a No-Fly zone, to begin with. Why does anyone with a drone think they can just do whatever they feel like with said drone? -THERE ARE RULES.

How did you get the footage if the drone is still on the roof? Isn’t the footage stored on the drone itself?

There's an option in the DJI app to cache video to your phone or tablet as you record. Quality is lacking but it's better than nothing in certain scenarios such as this.

Matthew, I was figuring the guy was going to ask you to somehow pick up his drone with yours. Not owning a drone I don't know how this works, but I thought the video recorded is on a microSD card with the drone. How did he get the crash footage?

Some drones can directly save recorded video onto your smartphone or a remote display. So either this is how the footage was uploaded, or the drone was recovered including the video from the SD card

Would it be so hard to get that thing from the roof and give it back to the unfortunate owner? You could still hook it and retrieve it yourself. Has been done before somewhere in Britain.

So any seasoned pilot will tell you that just looking at the footage one can see that the phantom had a roll drift during the flight this is the NUMBER 1 indication that either your IMU or compass is off and you need to re calibrate ASAP! the pilot did not return and continued flying!

We used to find drones all the time on the property while building the Apple campus. Most times they were cheap DJI knock offs.

Apple was powering up its new iphone 11 for the first time and testing its EMP feature which was originally geared towards only effecting Samsung products. Unless DJI is using Samsung electronics this was a fail for Apple.

So GRAPPLE it! Or ask the maintenance department to go up there and get it. Better be prepared to get billed if any panels are damaged, though. Or grapple it using a break-away lanyard in case it's snagged.

I would modify another drone with hooks and go on a recovery mission. Get a crew together and film it from other drones and then make a YT video to upload.

At 0:17, it should be "its" and not "it's". You have made this mistake before. Back in September, you made the same mistake in the description. Please learn the difference between "it's" and "its". It's is a contraction of it is. Example: "It is/It's sunny outside." Its is possessive. Example: "The tree has lost all of its leaves." Edit: I'm trying to help a guy that makes awesome drone videos, that made a grammatical mistake and I get silly comments as a response. That's nice...

It is not "actual footage", it is an excerpt from the unaltered file. Please use the correct term unless the remote-controlled multi-rotor aircraft was recording onto a roll of photochemical film. The DJI cameras are using file-based recording so you can just call the files "video".
