Reporting back, these badboys got delivered today and I can say they are OUTSTANDING. Clarity and speed of Grados, the bass of a closed back and the soundstage of an openback. They really check every single box of what you'd want in a headphone. The ONE downside is they do take a bit of power. Onboard isnt enough and 8 have to max out my e10K on High Gain. These things are power hungry. But well worth it. Beyond worth it. For $130 theyre an absolute must.

Just got these a few days ago, absolutely love them. Totally agree with the cable quality, comfort, and smooth treble. Very punchy, clear bass through my receiver. Drums sound really crisp and high clarity. Just have to make some adjustments to the treble where I want it to be. Love these!

Looking at HiFiMAN again and stumbled on this review of my 4XX purchase from a couple years ago(?) I like them but the only thing that detracted fairly soon was that a couple of the very small hex head screws that mount the can to the yoke managed to work themselves loose. Luckily, I have hex drivers up the ying yang and they tightened right up. Fair warning. Nice review here and don't argue with any of it.

The way you describe the sound for either gaming and music is really spot on ... I like electro, lofi, synthwave and such and often come back to my nin, garbage and nirvana roots with some post modern jukebox in between. I also like some gaming, but nothing competitive, mostly single player games ... I feel that the way you described that headphone they would suit me well. Thanx for the review. Keep up the good work.

Listening to this on my 4XX with my Liquid Spark. Love these things. Along with the 58X Jubilees, these are my favorite headphones.

Finally, headphones review that go into detail of measurements for outer/inner earpads, clamp force, "larger head" users, and fatigue per session. Comfort is extremely important. There are many highly quality headphones when it comes to sound quality. Not many are comfortable, though. I'm new to your channel. Have you or would you consider reviewing the Audio Technica ATH ADX line?

I literally picked these up on a whim from drop about 2 weeks ago ($160 vs their normal $180). I did about 12 hours of pink noise burn in and hot damn, if they aren't my new favorites and go-to headphone. Wide soundstage, EQ in some bass and tone down some harsh mids and highs and these things are more fun and relaxing to listen to than my pair of HD 660s. Build quality ain't shabby either. And he is absolutely right about needing some power to drive these things; I run them off my FiiO K5 pro and they just sing. Thanks for the recommendation!

Just watching this as looking at possibly another open back (Have the HD-6xx and DT-990s). I'd be really curious to see your thoughts on the DT-990s since they're such a fickle beast. Also, gotta say, of headphone reviewers, I appreciate your style. To the point, not aggressively long, and state your preferences out of a sound signature.

Seeing as I love my HiFiMan HE 560s I am so picking these up. And being able to hear them around the house or gaming without being tethered to my DAC/AMP combo.

I've had these for about a year and a half. Love them. I put on Ori lambskin pads and removed the dust liner from the grills. Does anyone have any ideas about what to get if you love these headphones but just want end-game?

I want a headset for mostly open world gaming. Not competitive and also for movies. Because off one off your reviews, I wanted to buy the X2HR, but can't buy them overhere. So I've did my homework and been through a lot to conclude the HE4XX might be what I want. But also the SHP9500. You reviewed them both and watching the gaming part of these vids (both 5 times over the past few days), I really can't tell which would better fit me. I play mostly open world games (RPG, adventure, action). Now I am playing The Outer Worlds, Metro Exodus (after finishing Ghost Recon Wildlands) and the new Star Wars. Got a copy of Greedfall, but haven't started it yet, because I've noticed I haven't finished K.C. Deliverance. So with these games in mind, I gone through a lot and THE gaming headphones HD58X and HD6XX didn't make the cut, because I thought they aren't worth the price for my use. It seems to mee, they are more competitve, where the HE4XX is more for immersion. The much cheaper SHP9500 also seem to really give me what I need. But I just can't choose, even after watching your 2 reviews about these. Only thing I can add is, i prefer a bt of thump and oempf to my bass, when shooting and crashing etc. and I dislike to bright highs. It hurts my head and tires me. But I have an amp/dac with e.q. (and scout mode), so I can adjust it a bit. What do you recommend?

Just found your channel and loving your reviews. I have an akg q701 with antlion modmic ive been running for years. Super comfortable and great soundstage but just severely lacking bass. Recently picked up a Schiit Hel and want to get something with a little more bass signature for gaming and music (all across the board like yourself - metal, electronic, rap etc). Would you recommend the k7xx, he4xx or the x2hr?

Hey man, loved your video and I praise your work. How would you compare the sound quality/differences between the Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-4XX and Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee headphones? They seem both extremely compelling for their prices and reviews and I'm torn on which ones to use to listen to music and game. I only recently found out about the audiophile community and am ill-informed on the aspects of these headphones but am really enthusiastic.

I have broken so many headsets, the earpiece breaks after about 9 months, something like 10 different pairs. the construction always breaks. My HE 400's just broke so I just bought these HE4XX, and bought the 3 year replacement plan, lol. Well over 10 pairs in the last 5 years. ugh

Right now - these reviews are probably the thing I look most forward too in my weekly perusal of my RU-vid subscriptions. While I'm curious about the HiFiMAN HE-4XX - my Sennheiser GSP-300's have been good to me for like 3 years of daily use, and I've really not found anything that's been able to stand up to that kind of daily abuse. (8+ hours a day.) Only have to replace the earpads every 10-12 months or so and I'm good go to.

Ok Bro based on your reviews, I bought he Sennheisers GSP 600's and GSX 1200 amp for wired. I also got the badazz Steel Series Arctis Pros for my wireless use. While I stay UP! my wallet stays empty. Great Review and I look forward to the next one.

DT 990 Review would be kinda nice

Let's see both the K7XX review and the DT 990 review my man. I am in the market for new gaming/music headphones + mic combo. What do you think, since you have consideration for gaming in most videos (which I love) of including interaction with popular mic options? Either way, keep killing it man.

Dear god those are sexy headphones :O

The clamp cover fell off of mine after a few days. It’s hot glued on. No snap on, just lays there. Underneath is two plastic disks held together with two screws. You can see the plastic splitting a little (white lines) around the screws. I would love for some company to come up with an aftermarket upgrade to these. Put the cover in the freezer, used a screw driver to flake off the glue and replaced it with high quality double sided tape. Hopefully it’ll hold up.

I just picked up these headphones and was hoping you could recommend a budget amp or even amp/dac for them for someone new to the hobby. I have them and completely agree with you. I also have the DT770 Pro 250 ohm and although also they are really good, the Hifiman are the most fun.

Great video again. Would you consider reviewing the hifiman 400i? Some people do not want to buy from massdrop for various reasons and the 400i is often on sale on their site making them quite a bt cheaper than the 4xx while probably being seen as the closest option to the 4xx withut getting the 4xx.

Heads up these DEFINITELY NEED EQ. I actually hated the original sound-- weak bass, excruciatingly bright; but after I eq'd according to famous redditor acoustic engineer /u/oratory1990 to flatten out the frequency response they sound fantastic!

I noticed you like to use headphones for gaming. A good headphone for gaming (that's not cheap) is a sennheiser hd800. Have heard folks that swear they hear stuff in back of them. I think it has a lot to do with their soundstaging abilities. They are a little controversial as far as having a nasty peak and being picky with amps. Just thought I would throw that out. One last thing. As you seem to like that plannar sound and you mention you liked the audeze lcd 2, you should try a lcd x 😀

6:24...i know that feel....the looks i get...are harsh lol, i own the k7xx and 58x....and LUL STAGE kingz k7xx. Nothing hits quite like them as far as "enjoyment" Makes me want to try these for 120$ atm. I got some Drop cash too. My left channel is RIP in my K7xx prob from a drop they need to be repaired. Always wanted to try some senns. Im recommending these HIFIMANS though since they look pretty good on sale. The K7xx are first editions Theyve been on the shelf for like 2 years. I also have thick frame glasses so its why i wasnt willing to try these, really hope someone i know gets them so i can try them out lol

Also, hilarious that you describe your music taste the same way I do. I'll listen to anything, and long as it isn't country. I'm in NY now, but growing up in TX as a metal/hiphop head with that kind of music constantly flooding your ear holes can make for an interesting time.
