About to switch to a drop away from a whisker biscuit after 15 years bowhunting. I was kind of lost on making decisions so this video was super helpful. Thanks man!

Really like your videos man. You appear very knowledgeable and are an excellent speaker, which for me, adds a lot of credibility to the videos you make and the subject matter. Just getting back into archery after a 10+ break and finding You Tube to be an incredible resource for information, once you weed through the junk of course. You definitely are at the top of the heap IMO and worth a subscription. Keep up the good work. I don't have a drop away rest but have been thinking about it. I have a few other priorities and want to make sure I am going to stay with it before I drop the dime. This video, like your others, at least provides me with the information I need to make and educated decision. Thanks. AE

I work in a shop and love the limb driven rests super easy set up and more accurate have never seen one fail yet like the cable rests where they won’t fall only downside is fit I like the integrated rests the gen 7 was my favorite but it was to big on a DLX had to switch to hamskea still am happy with the trinity

Thanks for sharing Nate. I have been running a whisker biscuit for years now on my 06 PSE that I have had for 14 years. I finally decided to try a fully contained drop away. I was debating between the QAD Ultrarest HDX, a $60 QAD and the Hamskea Primer. I ordered a Black Gold Widow Maker 5 pin left hand and with the $75 in points that I had on GoHunt's shop I was able to get the Hamskea Primer for $55. My cousin has a Hamskea so I figured that he would be able to help me install it, etc... it's a cable actuated rest. Part of me wishes that I would have spent $30 for the Hybrid and got micro tuning and a rubber coated fork among a couple other features. Oh well as long as it's timed right I should be fine. I am using it on my hunting bow 🏹 which will be 30 yards and in mostly, but I would love to go west for pronghorn, mule deer and elk too. Might have to extend my effective range a few yards.

Will a limb driven rest work on an older bow? I have a 1998 PSE Thunderbolt 4x4 which has a cable actuated drop away that just broke... I've never seen one on that vintage of a bow and know they are getting more common on modern bows with parallel limb. Great video.

Just picked up the Vapor Trail Gen 7X on sale for $180 shipped, pretty excited as I've always been a Whisker Biscuit user in the past. I think not just reduced friction, but the micro tuning is a game changer for me.

Your a hunting public fan too? Nice! But I’ve considered going to a limb driven, I use a whisker biscuit now, I looked last night and it pushes my vanes causing them to bend slightly.. would I have better luck with a limb driven, I’ve got my own little bow shop deal going on. What should I do
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 4 года назад
I always encourage people to shoot a dropaway rest if they're experiencing that fletching contact you're referring to. Either a quality cable or limb rest would well in your application. Just depends on how much money you're willing to fork over for one!

Any experience with the RipCord Lok? Love limb driven but need the launcher arm to lock in the up right position with minimal arrow movement as I do a lot of spot and stalk here in the swamps hunting hogs. At this time I have the Trophy Taker smack down lock up limb driven rest and I agree the quality has gone downhill the past couple years. Or in your opinion should I go with a cable actuation ?
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 3 года назад
If you truly want a full containment rest that will continue to contain even during a bow let down, I would strongly recommend the QAD HDX. I know, not limb driven, but outside of Trophy Taker Lockup, I don't trust any other limb driver to stay up. And as you said, their quality isn't what it used to be.

Hi Jack, what about reliability issues among the three styles, in your opinion? Never used, at this moment, a limb driven, but I've the feeling the cable activated rests are more simple and reliable than the cable actuated ones.. Many years ago I've had bad experiences with a QAD Hunter (the cheapest version of their Ultra Rest), suddenly stopping to drop ☹️..
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 4 года назад
Unfortunately you're describing an issue I've experienced many times in the shop! QAD doesn't market their Hunter rest much anymore because they have had and continue to experience issues that you are describing. I've maybe seen one or two of the HDX model in nearly 17 years of shooting go bad. A cable activated definitely does alleviate that though! Certainly sounds like the best option for you!

@@averagejackarchery Thank you for your reply, I'm tempted to try a limb driven, sooner or later, at this moment I think I'll stay with my NAP Apaches and my Apex Attitudes (I've two of both 😁)!!
@brycehiigel235
@brycehiigel235 3 года назад
I have been shooting the QAD for a few years now. all cable actuated with out any issues. Was just looking into the limb driven. So my question with that long of a bus cable is it susceptible to get caught in tree/brush limbs or other other stuff compared to the cable driven.

@tonyallen8626
@tonyallen8626 4 года назад
One of the main benefits of the limb driven drop away is how long they support the arrow for once fired where as cable activated rest drop's away instantly and is near impossible to tune.
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 4 года назад
I do agree that the limb driven allows you the luxury of finding where on the limb you want to attach the cord. Closest to the limb tip gives you the greatest support for sure! I do have to disagree with the cable activated being near impossible to tune. I've had the ability to work on many, many cable activated rests; both my own and customers' rests they bring to the shop. Tuning has actually been quite simple! Although the ability to quickly move a cinch cord with a drop away instead of a football clamp or pressed into the cable is just the bee's knees.
@tonyallen8626

@@averagejackarchery so your saying with a bit of practice it's not that hard to get cable driven rest to support the arrow for your desired amount of time

Hamskea Primer Arrow Rest vs Hamskea Archery Solutions Hybrid Hunter Pro. What exactly is the difference
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 2 года назад
Beefier bearinga and design with the Hybrid. Overmolded Y launcher arm on Hybrid. More launcher arm angle adjustment with the Hybrid. Primer is a little louder. It's just a bigger brother with more "fine tuning" options. I used to Primer this year to harvest deer from PA and Indiana. No hiccups. Both are solid, but if the funds are there the Hybrid is worth the overall upgrade IMO.

Your argument was that limb driven were better because you can get flex in a cable driven. Dont you see the flaw in that argument ? A limb driven also uses a cable too. Js
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 4 года назад
No no, it flexes the actual cable of the bow, not the cable of the rest. Both limb and cable dropaways use a Dloop like material for their cords. Very very stiff with nearly zero flex or stretch.
