In this video I'll go over the most common rests used for both target archery and hunting. If you use a compound, chances are you have experience with one of these. My goal is to explain why one may be better suited for whatever it is you're using.

I've been running the Hamskea Hybrid Hunter Pro for about a year now. I was initially a little leery of how much my arrow could move around if I needed to move for turkeys, but the rest upped the performance of my 12 year old bow big time. I was going to buy a new bow, but now I'm having no problem drilling a 4" target at 50 yards. Why change a good thing? I really like the Hamskea, and it is built like a tank.

I used one for years when spot and stalk. They DO WORK JUST FINE FOLKS. YEARS ago when they came out I saw a guy shoot several 300's on indoor league. Now that's plenty proof especially for hunting. There's very little chance of a hunt being ruined because of rest failure too. I have used the original Ripcord on all my hunting bows. I've only had one time issue and that's the cord was worn through and hung up the mechanism. I also use the Ripcord for 3-d too.

Hi mate I’ve been watching your vids for a while. You’re traverse review is the best on RU-vid. I have just bought a traverse bare and am looking for a rest. I live nearly 3 hours to nearest shop so can’t really try. I figure you’ve set up vapour trails and hamskea hybrid hunter micro tunes on a few traverse bows at the shop. Im having issues with my Hoyt Spyder and paper tuning with the my new trophy taker lock up limb driven. I cant seem to get rid of a high tail tear, Ive had suggestions from archerytalk to adjust the internal tension springs to soften the launcher. But its sounds like it could just be a timing issue from how you described being able to move where the cable sits on the limb. How exactly does that work? And yes ive done everything as far as changing nocking points micro adjusting the rest up. I was shooting bullet holes with my QAD before I switched and am well versed in tuning. Great videos for information. Some advice for the actual filming since I've noticed this a few times in the videos. The focus issue is because of your depth of field. If you are filming on a DSLR you need to check the F# number. Bump that number up a little that will help the general focus between foreground and background. Because you are so close to the camera in most of the videos the focal distance between your hands and your face is drastically different percentage wise (similar principle to zeroing between 20yds and 100yds, small misses at 20 are huge misses at 100). Again great videos, just trying to help with some small stuff that could make them a little better.

I did try to time my dropaway rest but there was an inherent problem with my particular set up. I run >80lb bows- thus my archers paradox issue becomes a steering liability on the blade. No matter which arrows I had- spine aligned and glued! No matter if I rotated the nock, it just rotated the problem. I gotta get off that arrow quickly. So I compensate by running nock level instead of nock high for a gravity adjust. (Only works with level nock travel bows) Just in case your high poundage viewers run into some of the same issues I had. 👍 Love the vid

Hey, great videos! They have really helped me fine tune my hunting setup and understand why the adjustments work. One issue I am still having is my rest. I have the QAD Hunter (The cheapo). My bow is a PSE X-force Decree, 70#, Axle to Axle 31", and an IBO of 355 (Never shot through a chronograph my bow so i dont know true speed), Shoot roughly a 440 grain arrow at 30" draw length. My question is I am having a hard time getting my arrows to not hit my rest. I can tell its hitting because the felt is being cut by my fletchings. Could it be that the bow is just too fast for this low-end rest? Is it because its cable driven instead of limb driven? Maybe the launcher is bouncing back up? Another weird thing is my arrows melt the felt on the launcher arm, which makes me believe the rest isnt falling fast enough and there is a lot of arrow contact. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! I would drive to the shop and hash it out with you, but I live in Madison WI, its a bit of a drive...

I have the hamskea rest they wear a little but stop after awhile says that it the manual also it's supposed to wear a little i shot well over 1000 arrows through it and still use the original whale tale with no problems but you can buy a metal launcher with no plastic cover for it they make different styles of tails also you won't regret buying one also can be set up as a limb driven or cable rest just feels like a solid well made rest and you can unscrew the cage for it if you want plus you get a lifetime warranty and don't think the Trinity would be a different coating same tail as the others

It does ever so slightly. We actually made a cut out at the shop from thin felt that we put over the launcher and that seems to stop it. The Trinity is amazing. Whish rest do you recommend for 3d and hunting that is not to noisy.

Not much to say about a Whisker Biscuit. It's a very basic rest. Really limited in terms of being able to tune it.
@stevethedude8740
@stevethedude8740 5 лет назад
@@InsideOutPrecision It adjusts right and left and up and down. What more do you need? It supports the arrow even longer than a limb driven. I'm confused by your response.
@InsideOutPrecision
@InsideOutPrecision 5 лет назад
@@stevethedude8740 Its a full contact rest for the entire shot cycle. Let's say you bow is shooting tail right; when the nock of you arrow gets to the whisker, there isn't enough mass behind it to keep it tail right, so it kicks off the right wall of the rest and actually kicks the opposite way (left). Same if you're getting a tail high tear though paper. Usually is because the back of the arrow kicks off the rest as it passes through, showing you a tail high tear. If you move the nock down or the rest up ( like you should for sed tear) it will actually get worse. Most whisker biscuit will tune better with your nock about an ¼" above level. There's a reason you will never see a whisker biscuit on a target bow

@danielsmith8659

Christian Albert I ran a limb driver for years, but they are not popular down south. Everybody is a cable driven qad guy here. Every time I had an issue the tech would alway blame my “crappy limb driven rest”.... because they knew nothing about them. So I’m stuck using what the shops are most willing to work on. But I swear a limb driver is better than a qad

Had 2 QADs but with my 27” draw no one could stop the fletching contact. So I stick to the boring old biscuit.

I'm having the same isue with contact with my QAD HDX.....so much contact its eaten a groove on the launcher. Evan Owen at QAD has been so bad at customer service... they are ignoring my emails. Time to move to Hamskea! Why is this such a problematic problem with QAD. I've heard so many people with the same problem....and you pay a premium price for this drop away!

Agree with biscuit for hunting, and I make things even less complicated by shooting with fingers. But target archery and trying to drill a bulls eye consistently at distance requires much more attention to detail.

Love my vapor trail Pro V. I have beat the crap out of it for the last 5 years. Full capture, no worries, never had an actuation cord problem, pad on the V bar is still holding up, I don't have to worry about cocking the damn thing or a loose cord getting caught on something and screwing up the timing on like on a cable driven rest. This vid has 1.6K thumbs up as of now and only 62 thumbs down. I am sure the QAD guys are the downers, LOL.

Those cable rests are crap. WTH? WAY WAY over engineered. That’s insane. Killed over 10 deer with a good old flipper rest. Technology is not all that. Geez
@InsideOutPrecision
@InsideOutPrecision 4 года назад
To each his own. Flipper rests are designed to shoot with fingers. There's a huge increase in accuracy with a drop away rest if you shoot a release. The days of being satisfied with a group the size of a paper plate at 50 yards are long gone for most modern archers.
@shamux4043
@shamux4043 4 года назад
They're literally the next simplest thing you can get, aside from a flipper. It's literally just a spring loaded launcher that drops when it's connected to a cable.
