Speaking as someone who had a 20 year heroin and crack addiction, his claim of staying awake for 49 days is dubious at best, its physically nearly impossible and even if possible you would lose all concept of time way before 49 days, sounds like junkie bravado to me

To walk from West Virginia to Los Angeles, that's 2,420 miles. That means he would have to walk 57.6 miles per day at 2.4 miles per hour non-stop to make it there in 42 days. Now I'm no talent scout, but I think this pro athlete might be overlooked.

i am lucky to know william. he is a fine gentlemen who had it rough. he is currently in recovery. amber died from a heroin overdose. amber has a hearing defect. she was never afraid of will. god bless these two.

As an addictions counsellor and former addict myself I can promise you that staying awake for 49 days straight is not possible. That mine would go insane. I am a crystal meth user myself who has been clean 8-years and the longest I stayed awake was a week. At that point I was hearing things that weren't there, seeing bugs in my apartment and on my floor, and having conversations with entities that nobody else could see. That was after one week. It's absolutely impossible to stay awake for 49 days straight.

After listening to this for 22:12, I feel like I just received my master's degree in bullshitting.

Something about her mannerism make it seem like he's highly abusive to her. She seems very nervous around him

I have chronic anxiety and my heart goes out to Amber, I see her shaking with nervousness and anxiety. I’ve been like that before and it’s like living in an absolute hell…anxiety that is severe will stop you from performing basic daily functions like going to work, going to the grocery, etc. i couple imagine dealing with it and being homeless with Lurch on top of it. Im so thankful that I found an amazing psychiatrist and am practicing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with my Xanax prescription to take as needed. My heart goes out to her because I can literally feel her anxiety through the screen. 💔💔

Amber has so much to say and no room to say it. Completely domineered by Lurch. You can see her discomfort listening to his horrendous trauma, and it's clear their relationship works for him. I can't help but wonder if it works for her? This poor woman needs opportunity to have a voice.

I am in recovery myself. I know people like to tell "war stories" about their drug use but it is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to stay awake for 49 days straight. The human body does not work that way my man.

Speechless 😢 Thank you Mark for sharing such raw material that many of us are not accustomed to. I am glad Lurch found someone that he trusts and gives him some reason to live, but living without drugs is a must to truly live life to fullest.

I really mean this with no hate but man, I do not miss people like this while I was active in my addiction. He is someone who is very hard to be around, I’m exhausted just listening to him for 22:13.

I have worked at both harmony house and the city mission in Huntington WV. The only way to be refused food is if you get banned for violence, threatening etc. Usually the mission will give a bag lunch if that happens. These services are amazing and helps the homeless IF they do what they are supposed to.

Have never seen someone who looks more like their name than Lurch does.

Also...my husband is a retired professional fire fighter from the Huntington Fire Department. He was working his shift on that day in 2016 when there were several overdoses. He was the Captain at #4. Citywide there were 26 overdoses, 6 of the overdoses occured in my husband's district alone. And him saying 80% of Huntington is HIV positive is utterly ridiculous!!

This guy is just a nut job. All he does is lie and he thinks he is making himself look good with all his fabulous chaos. He's a hero in his own mind.

This dude is on a roll! He’s got all his lies down packed and can spit them at the drop of a hat! I know a guy just like him. Won’t stop talking, lies about everything so much so that he doesn’t know the truth any longer.

Amber seems like a very vulnerable person. I hope she's safe, and if she isn't I hope she at least knows how to reach out to someone trustworthy.

Anyone who’s been in the drug world knows a “Lurch”. Never ever known one to get sober, for long. Unfortunately they have to learn to stay sober and to do that, delete their character and restart from scratch. Because for them, it’s not just a few character defects to fix, their whole character is defective.

This is the exact dynamic my mom & her boyfriend have. EXACT. Unfortunately this relationship isn’t uncommon, anywhere. ***and constantly lying about everything or extremely embellishing stories is wayyyyy too common for addicts, especially those on meth***

This guy is too much!!! He is so self absorbed and loves the sound of his own voice. He thinks he knows everything and has an answer for everything and deflects any responsibility for his situation. When she speaks, she comes across authentic and genuine.

I hope he gets out of this victim state of mind. He's upset cuz ppl just don't give him what he wants. I had to work for what I got. I was addicted to heroin in 2013. My mom died from OD. My dad is a alcoholic. And I've got a wife, 5 kids, 3 cars, a house, beautiful home, and amazing job. Life is what u make it. Gotta do something about it.

I actually saw Amber (sans Lurch) a few days ago at one of Huntington's grocery stores.

She looks so tiny compared to him, she looks petrified of that man, just saw that she has passed away , may she Rest In Peace xxx

I just have to comment on this. I am from West Virginia, born and raised there. I have lived in Huntington, WV and I could not get out of that place fast enough. That city is ROUGH. Everything he says about West Virginia is true. Appalachian people are very tough, but it is such a difficult culture. Families generally do not support each other and the poverty is horrible. What he said about drugs being the only thing there for you is a sad but true fact about West Virginia. So many people I went to school with have died of overdoses. I pray these two can get off the drugs. It's so hard.

I feel like Amber might have a hearing impairment. Lurch is almost speaking directly into her ear. He also repeats a lot of Mark's questions to her. However, I also see all the red flags mentioned by the other commenters. Something about the way both act doesn't sit right with me.

I live in Ironton Ohio, and I am a recovering addict also I'm getting married in October we are both in recovery together. We both have a hell of a story and I would love to meet you. I watch your videos everyday I checked for new ones on my way to work and on my way home! You are doing great things by sharing everybody's story and I'm here to listen!

I went to college at Marshall University in Huntington, and I had to leave after my junior year because of all the crime and drugs in the city. My car got broken into 6 times, windows smashed, house broken into.. It’s really unfortunate because it’s such a beautiful city. They need to have more resources in Huntington, it’s very sad.

I'm surprised that the majority of people can not recognise that Amber is hearing impaired. It's seems obvious to me. Yes, there may be an element of control however I believe the majority of the mannerisms relate to her impairment I.e. he repeats the question to signify/clarify.

I live in Huntington. I’m actually a nurse in Huntington WV. I used to work with the SA population as a Detox supervisor at Prestera. I would like to inform people that, while Huntington does have a cluster of HIV cases, we definitely do not have 80% of the Huntington population with HIV/AIDS. Also, the reason the are trying to crack down on the backpack brigade, is because of theft. And we do have a huge issues with needles laying around everywhere.

I roofed with a guy from Huntington West Virginia. Good dude. Wild as hell. Looked like a younger version of this guy. Crazy really the similarities. Last I heard he was doing the homeless thing in the bigger cities. Hope my friend is OK. He was a badass roofer

I know lurch from Huntington West Virginia and I know he was a good father the best it could be it's a shame how Society has treated him and his own family he was a good person it's sad that he's got AIDS now and its sad that his kid got took I'm sure he didn't turn to drugs until after his child got took I know how that feels to get your kid took from you when you done nothing wrong to deserve that I I also got my youngest son took and then I turned to drugs but by the grace of God I'm clean now I've been clean for the last couple years and I'll continue on that journey of being clean prayers go out to Lurch and his woman I pray that things will turn around for them and get better

I'm sure some of it is true, but most just wild stories to embellish his life and make it seem amazingly interesting. My father in law was just like this guy...he died at 61 from never taking care of himself. SO SAD

I've read through the comments and understand that a lot of people don't care for Lurch - that he's an abuser, a liar, etc. I don't see that and I'd like to believe that I have a good sense of people having been a mental health social worker both in the child/adolescent and adults areas. Lurch seems to me to be one of those good 'ole boys who embellishes his stories with truth and some bullshit. There is nothing about his body language that suggests he abuses Amber. As for Amber, I believe she is hard of hearing 'cause she acts just like hearing impaired people. She is passive and demure which I think relates to her being hard of hearing and being picked on as a child for it. Demure because she was raised in a Christian home which probably believed that wives supported their husbands, stayed home raising kids and housekeeping, and spoke when spoke to. As for her shaking her head when Lurch goes on his tangents, I do the same thing when my husband tells one of his stories to people. I shake my head and I'm thinking "Oh hell no. He is not telling this story again" and I'm chuckling to myself.
