Adding my memories to the collective here: - L’Oréal lumi and Revlon skinlights were so good, I remember there was like a trend at the time where everyone was duping the Mac glow lotion thing. Not that at the time we really would have called it duping maybe that wasn’t as big of a thing! - who remembers the Revlon moon glow/moonshine something lipsticks?? Those were really old shiny lovely balmy lipsticks! - Man when you said Luminoso and the baked blushes were at least from 2016, I got thinking… I know I had one in college so they must have at least been around 2014ish maybe earlier?? And I was influenced by RU-vid to buy one, I would love to go back and see if I can find those old videos that mention it. Wow I love digging through makeup history of the 2000s so many products I forgot about!

Many of these types of products go back much further. When I was a young teen, Bonne Bell was incredibly popular. Bronzing gel, blushing gel, a “glowtion” type product that was called something like WellSpring. And my mother had been devoted to a Max Factor Pan Stick before I was even a thought! I could go on, due to my obsession with makeup in general, but it’d get boring to most. Thanks for the wonderful piece, Jen! 😊

Hey Jen! I think the L'Oreal Lumi Glotion has been around longer than you mentioned. I remember using it back in like 2005, but I think it had a slightly different name and packaging. I remember because people would ask me how I got my face to be so bronzed and metallic. I could be mistaken, but it's an OG either way when it comes to glowy makeup enhancers.

I LOVE your videos. Very informative and nonbiased. I agree that PR and social media overhype products while similar and less expensive products go unnoticed until RU-vidrs like you remind us of their performance and value. I trust my handful of RU-vidrs way more than TikTok or any product sponsored ad. AND you look great with off center part. It’s extremely flattering, especially with your hair texture. Center parts are not for us Uber thick (and sometimes coarse) hair women. You can still wear it straight with off center part. As a 59 year old fellow new englander, thank you for your honest and interesting videos

What goes around comes around. I’m a senior citizen. Back in the seventies we had these bronzing gels that you could mix in with skin care. Love Cosmetics made my favorite. They even had one for the body. Revlon had great glowy blushes you applied with a sponge. Back in the seventies Max Factor had Super Clear and Cover Girl had Super Sheet. These were our skin tints. Revlon had the Moisturous lipsticks about 15 to 20 years ago and they were the precursor to the Glass Shines. I had Honey Sip and it was a fabulous golden nude. Way back in the seventies Helena Rubinstein had liquid blushes that rolled on.

My Mom used to use Max Factor’s PanCake makeup and they also had a product called PanStick like the stick foundations today. I used the PanCake makeup because my Mom introduced it to me, but they don’t make it anymore and I don’t think there is anything like it either. It was a dry pressed powder in a pan that you used a damp sponge to pick up the product and apply. You could make it as sheer or as full coverage as you wanted simply by how wet your sponge was or by how many layers you applied. Nostalgia!! ❤

I’m 46 and I’ve been into makeup since I was 14. So there is rarely a product that launches that is truly unique. Like you said, everything is cyclical. For me, the Blinc tubing mascara was my first tubing mascara and it is really good. Also, Laura Gellar’s baked blushes and highlighters. I also still have the Revlon Skinlights loose powder lol. But they had the full line of glowy products so long ago.

Omg I got Laura gellar blush in my first Birchbox in 05, the baked apricot berry, oh it was so gorgeous, i kept it after it broke away from the pan, but after 10 yrs finally had to let it go. I just used a teensy amount, I barely even panned it. And I remember being so WOWd by blinc, but my eyelashes cannot hold a curl even if heated, so mascara is pointless.

I've been buying the Revlon skinlights for probably 20 years. They used to be in different packaging, they had bronze, rose gold shades, as well as the gorgeous champaign golden color, that I always have. They're now in tubes and have a slightly translucent base and give such a beautiful glow. Mine is in 300 sunrise Lustre, but they have deeper shades. Similar to the l'oréal ones but a thinner formula. My mom has always used cream products, I remember one brand was Helena Rubenstein, and they were the prettiest shades. I can still remember the smell of the lipstick. But I've always loved the cream formulas too so I'm rapt there's so many brands bringing them out now. But definitely give the Revlon skinlights one a try, it's so good., it sets down so you can use it on the eye too. Revlon also had those butter balms, in different formulas, stains, matte or dewy glossy ones. They're still available too. 👍💚

I distinctly remember owning a maybelline foundation stick back in like 2001. I was in high school, Sarah Michelle Gellar was in all magazine advertisements, and it turned my skin orange. As Jen said, they’re nothing new. Crazy how things come in and out of fashion.

Yes. Revlon made a similar tube in 2008, even before the L'Oreal lumi glotion product. It was called SkinLights and came in a tube of pink or bronze tone creme. With shimmer in it. I had both shades. I wore it all the time. Great product. !!!! 👍 🌞

I believe these products are going viral because this younger generation which wasn’t aware of them before make such a fuss when they discover them. I’ve noticed a trend of how all these young influencers lose their minds and again make such a fuss when they discover them. Oh what times we are living in. Lol! 😂😂😂😂

I think Clinique was the OG for glowy primer. I used it in the 80's. It was silver and came in a square glass bottle. Who remembers? I used it under my eyes.

L'oreal did the color riche plump and glo lipsticks before revlon did those ones. I believe they came out in 2018 or 2019. I had a few of the shades and I loved them. Tati recommended them. I was actually trying to find them a few weeks ago, only to find out they were discontinued. There is a new formula that's similar but I haven't tried it yet.

Not drugstore, but Clinique have had a tubing formula for ages. I remember asking for a waterproof mascara and the assistant said they didn't do one (bad for lashes apparently), so I bought one that came off with hot water. Didn't call it a tubing mascara then.

It’s been around for awhile’ But I didn’t realize there were so many! Nice to see a deep dive into this. Once again thanks for knocking it out of the park 🎉 Have a great Week. Hugs! 💖🌸

honestly, i think true trends are dead. 99% of what's viral has been the result of a mass marketing/influencer campaign. it's uninspired, and therefore uninspiring.

Your information is so on point and it reminds us that high end cosmetics are not the be all above expand all of options for us. I prefer good drugstore and indie brands. You are the best of RU-vid Beauty Jen, how did I get so lucky to find you? You were my first and still my #1. I think Laura Yelled might have been first with baked and maybe even primer but she is not drug store. Her things are super and her sales are often and high discounts.

I love videos like this that remind me, "I don't really need that"...because I already have XYZ. You're right - I'm sick to death of hearing about the expensive bronzing drops (when I have a tube of that L'Oreal Lumi Glotion that will last me for years!). And, yes, everyone is raving about those Rare Beauty blushes.. but I also have the Milani Baked Blushes... (I've also seen them compared to the Essence Baked Blushes.) It seems to be a lot of the same stuff just in new packaging...

@@JenPhelps Jen, the Maybelline lifter gloss is a great gloss, but I swear, I can taste ever so slight bitterness of it. Cover girl’s Yummy gloss tastes/smells fake and pungent bordering giving me headache. Neutrogena and Revlon glosses don’t do any of these, at all and they are so moisturizing, color remains for a long time (for glosses). They are ignored gem products.

Going back even further, Revlon had a version of the L'Oréal lumiglotion in the early 2000s. There were only two shades - a pink illuminator and a bronze, which was more orange than bronze, but basically the same concept a lumiglotion, drunk elephant. Hollywood flawless filter etc. It was during the J-Lo era. I also feel like Physicians Formula had maracuja lip butters before Tarte but they had an awful sunscreen taste and weren't popular. 5+ years ago. Revlon again had lip butters in the 2010s. They had pink caps that were supposed to look quilted. Loreal also has a short lived skin tint called eau de teint in the early/mid 2010s. It came in a rectangle glass bottle and were meant to be a dupe for Chanel vita lumiere aqua
