I love this guy. His playing so absolutely flawless. He such a chill and friendly guy too. He's always into his playing. To me, he is the greatest drummer.
Matt is my new favorite drummer. I spent a lot of time growing up thinking there would be no meaning in my life if I didnt end up a drummer playing music for my career. Things have changed and I dont play music anymore. People like matt make me smile that its ok because theres ppl as talented as him out there. He plays my EXACT style that I was trying to bring to the masses. At times he hits every note I would have and it makes my insides complete. Thanks matt. Makes us /fails feel proud
The letter experiment used to be my favorite song I used to just love that solo in it. i still do. They are amazing, they combine jazz and progressive metal and ambient like i've never heard before.
to this day, this remains one of my favorite sounding snares ever. and im not even sure what it is, or what head he's using. probably and evans onyx...but like, his snare sounds brass, but it looks like it might be a wooden snare?? i dunno...i just know i would buy this exact one in a heartbeat if i knew exactly what it was.
When my friend went to see them, they 'drove off the road' so weren't able to perform. He drove 8 hours with his girlfriend to see them...also Periphery is their favorite band. I'd have been so pissed.
Yah I know but Meinl says that he uses Byzance traditional medium hats but these look like a brilliant finish. Not sure if they're the brilliant medium hats or something else.
Matt...I wish you would've made it with periphery about 15 years ago! I honestly believe I would be twice the drummer I am! Portnoy was my drumming God while I was learning...you're way better...way to rep MD!
@Mohamed636 I think his drumming is influenced by jazz which often does smaller is better in terms of being able to deliver a solid groove and be more creative with a more defined sound palette rather than having 4 toms to muddle together.
he only has 1 tom because he doesn't use his toms as toms, but as a "second bass drum" it is tuned low like a bass drums and he only uses it as an accent.

ZribTurd hit the nail on the head, he's not really that well known yet, but Djent kinda is new so its a fad thats why all the views people are new to this style of polyrhythmic drumming so its being checked out, oh and this dude created bandhapy so thanks to him i get lessons from my favorite guitarist so i support his work... just my answer of your question "why"
Matt - "Dude, at 5:23 - 5:43, I'm not too sure what I should play? Any Ideas?" Spencer - "YEAH, DON'T GIVE A FUCK, JUST GET IT DONE, K? BYE." Matt - 'Hit everything it is.'
