Another excellent video of some beautiful drum machines. Man your 5U modular system has really grown. Hope to see more of it! Thanks Tom for this series. A small correction. Phil Collins famously used the Cr78 in the track In the Air Tonight. Hate to be THAT guy!

Honestly, I cannot for the life of me understand why people would dislike this video or why only 5 % like it out of the total that watched this. This is so generous and rare for a musician and composer to show us all these tricks and facts within a practice for free and even without commercialised cut-points. Tom, I would love to meet you someday or at least see you do a liveshow on one of these drum computers and synthesisers that you have been showing us. Hands down one of my favourite tutorial series.

Excellent video of vintage 80's drum machines. I am hooked on your channel. The Alesis HR-16B had ability to individually pitch shift its samples too. Being 16-bit, it was cleaner. It was all I could afford in late 1989.

Thanks so much to you and your team, I've learned a lot, 10 years ago, I bought an Akai miniyak, and I played it sometimes but became very sad to hear the simple sounds and it's hard to program, but There is software for it so it's a bit easier, it has three oscilators and eight polyphony and a lot of filters, vorcoder and more. Now I gradually know how a synth works and how to get more sound.

Hi.... Just listening to the detuned hand clap on the DX drum machine. This is a sound used hugely by Gary Numan although i believe he used a Linn LM1 at the time.Listen to Night Talk off of his 1981 album Dance.Again the same sound used right across his 1982 album i assassin....All the best ;-)

To me the tr and tb (and linndrums to)are so awsome because of their groovequantisation .The feel of these machines groovin is still special to day. It's also the succes of akai's mpc series who hat the linn quantize build in. Thx for the good soundquality of your review Tom .( it became time..)Now we all can start sampling! lol Fun to see your fatening up your sounds in the sp 1200. What you basicly do is turning them into 8 bits sounds witch sounds so fat. It's also the reason why a akai s-950 sounds so awsome. Greetz from the Netherlands to all gearheads

HOLY CRIME MONEY! How does a person come into such a wide array of modular gear? That can't all belong to just one owner!? Don't you feel subdued by having such a huge palette to choose from, I mean, wouldn't you feel like those big boxes are playing you, instead of the other way around? I've been soldering some eurorack kits a little over one year now, feeling quite insignificant, and sad because I'll die before I ever feel like I got adequate usage from it! I guess it's a matter of balancing all aspects, like watching your diet, balancing the fun with the discipline! Thanks for showing off some legendary boxes!

I love drum machines. My 707 is bent and 727 is not. The bent work was done by Diabolical Devices and has worked great for years. It occasionally acts up when bent modes are enabled, but works 100% with bent switched off. Circuit bent drum machines are great for creating strange machine-like sequences and then sampling it for processing. I had another non-bent 707 that I recently repaired PSU input but sold to my friend.
