The Jost Nickel effect again: I hear the first beat and I am addicted. He has got such a wonderful groove.

Studios don't make as much money as they used to. So, they have to look for other income streams to keep the place running. Putting on workshops is a great way to do that. In most scenarios, workshops aren't there for the sole purpose of teaching others or passing on knowledge. It is a means of income, mainly. You learn a lot more by experimenting on your own than what a workshop can teach you. No one in these workshops have all this gear for their own recording sessions. Most of the things you learn about gear will be irrelevant but there may be 2 or 3 tips and tricks you may pick-up on if you're a keen listener and you respect the teaching individual.

Ok, so there's a 72 or something input SSL, 100's of mic's, and we can't hear the results of the drums. I get that it's a lecture, but when you post it on RU-vid, at least give us some "desk sound".

why couldnt you get the audio and video synced? its really disturbing seeing him play and hearing the drums quite a bit behind that. in the end you´re the abbey road institute no ;)

Ich denke mal es ist keine Absicht, dass die Drums oft irgendwie so klingen als ob n Phaser drauf liegt oder? Das liegt bestimmt daran, dass der Drumsound gleichzeitig mit dem Kamera-Mikro im Video ist

Snare sounded better with the bottom mic in, it lost something when out, in my opinion.
