@@RaceDayReplay By some of the people who think heavy metal is just people playing noise , I once had a friend talk to me about why tico Torres was so much better than Nicko , I've been a maiden fan since 88 , I love Doug's drumming ,Clive's drumming and Nicko's , Nicko is my favourite as I love the way him and Steve truly connect musically , the way they refined the gallop style maiden are now known for was awesome to see developing as they put out new albums with Nicko's playing .
YES! One of my very favorites. Whenever I suggest an Iron Maiden songs for reactors to react to, I always lead off with Revelations. Piece of Mind every song is solid.
@@philhamilton8731 That wouldn't really surprise. I think Sun and Steel is great though...it's not a classic, but it's a short, high-energy number with a catchy singalong chorus.
@@jackalope5589 maybe it only looked like a few people. Doubt they would play if they didn’t sell enough tickets. I saw the same tour at Long Beach Arena. Then saw them three of the four nights of the Powerslave tour at the same venue. Had sixth row the night they filmed Live After Death. Got my 2 seconds of fame as Running Free ended.
Ditto. I learned bass listening to the Piece of Mind album back in the mid-80’s and Revelations was the first song I tackled. Still a favourite after all these years
I learnt drum, in part at least, because of their song Where Eagles Dare, not only their finest drum song by a country mile but one of the greatest drum lines in the history of music.
I met Nicko and saw him do a drum workshop at an Iron Maiden fan convention in Brighton (U.K.) many years ago. He is just incredible and he signed some sticks for me.
Nicko's drum sets always look so comfy, like you could just sit back and be surrounded by drums and cymbals but everything is ergonomically positioned and has purpose.
I have been an Iron Maiden fan since 1981 when I was 11. As a young kid and a teen, I always seemed to miss their shows in New York City. I thought after Bruce's cancer I may never get to see the band live. I finally got to see them on the Book of Souls tour and the last one in 2022. They are a-must see!
Nicko is one of the most musical drummers in the game. Players like him and Danny Carey take monster kits and use them wisely; their phrasing and most importantly their choices of what and what not to play, when and when not to chop are what make their lines so solid and so artful.
I`ve seen them last year in Bremen, first time in my life.. live...... I know of them more than the half of my whole life....... ( 48 years ) And to see them live is a little bit like watching a thunderstorm from a warm save place... There lightning strikes, and they mealt there crowd down to a bar of Maiden Steel, a Liitle bit like sticking in a swamp , u can´t go cause they are so catchie, ...... U can´t resist, but they send u home with a bright smile in u´re face
Please check out their song the prisoner from the 1982 Hammersmith concert. Clive Burr plays the drums on that one and it's some of the tightest drumming you'll ever hear
I totally agree with you that every band must have a characteristic sound, that makes you recognize them in any song or any part of a song. I once had a so-called friend, he used to say that Iron Maiden were repetitive and they sounded the same on every song. Needless to say he's no longer with us, he moved to another country, but, I used to say to him, is not that they're repetitive, it's just that they have that signature sound that makes them recognizable and we all the fans love. Please do more Maiden more often.
I enjoy your commentary. I strongly suggest reacting to The Book of Souls from The Book of Souls Live Chapter… The sound engineer recorded the best live sound they’ve ever performed! As you listen to their live material you’ll hear the three lead, and rhythm guitarists ; Dave Murray: recorded on the left channel, Yanick Gers: recorded on the right channel, and Adrian Smith: recorded on both channels. You will now be able to distinguish their individual tone, as you listen to live Iron Maiden. Enjoy Sir!!
Hey Andrew, kiwi living in Oz here. I was at this show, life long dream to see them. Took the wife (not a fan of rock or metal) she was blown away and loved every second. Really enjoy the vids bro.
Seen Maiden live in London and twice in Christchurch... Can say that Sept 16th Auckland next year - Somewhere in Time set list - is going to be fantastic.
Yes they played four songs from Somewhere in Time. The only downer for me is that they played five songs off their new album. So they only played 6 other songs of the 40 I was hoping they would play. They don’t need new music. I’ve listened to the last couple albums. Once. That said I will still go see them every chance I get. Because no one and I mean NO ONE, has a better live show than Iron Maiden.!
One of my favorites from Piece of Mind album Nicko kills it as usual Bruce Dickinson wrote this song. Killer vocalist and talented writer. Check out Powerslave
Andrew, you must watch the documentary Flight 666, you'll really get a unique insight to how Iron Maiden operate and how without any radio play they get the following they have. Great reaction as always. 🤘🏻👊🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love the analysis. What I don’t love in general is everyone saying in music you need a click or a metronome. To make it perfect!! Music I not meant to be played perfectly it should eb and flow. With in limits obviously. What makes a great band playing live is letting the music eb and flow.
On the Live after death live album they played this song waaay fast live... Still fast here, but not as fast as the before mentioned version.. check it out. its crazy fast.
This Sydney version of Revelations are a absolute classic. Pachendale or Sign of the cross Live is "Nicko" songs ii would love to see your reaction on. Thank for your channel and reactions. Regards from a coffee machine tech from Norway
I’m sure Nicko mentioned in drumming video on Maiden’s RU-vid channel that he uses a click to start a song off, if its a drum/full band intro, then the rest of the song it’s just the band keeping time.
Love th Maiden reactions, it would.be awesome if you did a waychalong of their Flight 666 documentary, it has a whole concerts worth of songs in it and it also serves as somehwhat of a history of the band as well
8:48 Iron Maiden don't know what a click track is. They don't need one, they just understand each other so well and despite some musical differences and a few minor falling outs over the years they've managed to make it work and have worked together to make some of the most unique and inspirational influences on the rock and metal genre to this day.
Really think you need to do the song Paschendale - live at Dortmund from the live album death on the road Drama , execution amazing stage and honestly I’m not a drummer but I think it’s quite different to most of Nikkos drumming on other songs
Hey hey New England from RU-vid.. Andrew if you can make it to the show I would definitely go..They have one of the best visual stage shows I've seen...Btw I saw them in 2019 in Hartford Connecticut and it was amazing the entire show is on Yt so give it a look 🧐✌️🤘
I live just outside Hartford and saw that show. Classic Maiden as usual. I also saw them last year in Worcester...good show, but it was kinda ruined by the idiots my crowd section.
I still prefer the Live After Death version. Bringing in Jannick did wonders to Maidens sound and spectacle, but for the older songs not so much. With the "new" songs, definitely yes. Amazing guitar player. And Nicko? Amazing sense of timing, feel and groove.
Moonchild from Flight 666 The Talisman from en vivo The Book of Souls, are my requests for you. I alwys enjoy your reactions to my absolutly favourit Band of all Time.
Maiden always plays without a click track or in ears. Bruce said shortly, that ghey always play to fast. I think this is the best version of that song. The "live after death" is not so clear melodic. Maybe you could react "Hell on Earth", sadly only as handy films available.
You'll fínd Maiden-fans and rock and metal-fans are most welcoming to more content overall (not only Maiden-content), Doug at www.youtube.com/@Doug.Helvering did a whole thing with Maiden-mondays and it seemed to help his channel grow alot. Just a tip ;)
I loved this channel. I loved his personality, but when I went to request 2 paypal requests it was $95. So I'm paying him $95 to listen to a song and comment on it. Do you all think that is reasonable? I was going to donate $10 per song to have him react to UFO Natural thing, and light Out off of Strangers in the night. I thought that was more than generous. Lost in Vegas who started this whole reaction thing charges $1 a month with Paytreon. He must not have many students. If I could make $95 for 2 songs I would never work a real job again. So do you fan boys think that is fair? I think he is a con man.
The only problem with Iron Maiden shows these days is their insistence in playing new material that the crowd doesn’t know. They have so many great songs they could play a six hour show and still not play all of them. They don’t need new material. If they want put out new material fine just don’t dedicate half your live show to playing shit people don’t know. You can see how great this song is live. Play what the fans know. I
That's the great thing with Maiden. They are not a "greatest hits" caberet band. They are releasing solid new work that most fans love and that compliments the classic works.
