Paulina doesn’t just drive the race car, she knows what’s going on under the hood. This young lady is the most exciting thing to happen in music in decades!
WTF. The “most exciting thing to happen in decades?” You either have a crush on this little girl or you have no understanding of music. What an absolutely ridiculous comment.
The way she speaks about Ableton shows she's deep into it as well. And, being Pau, she probably is just as aware of guitars, basses, and audio engineering.
And her dad too. I love how humble The Warning are always willing to acknowledge that it is not just them alone that are the stars of the shows, but their team and even the fans that make the shows a success.
The fact that Pau doesn't have a full endorsement offer from DW is criminal. She ought to be fielding offers from every manufacturer in the business. She will be an inspiation to thousands of drummers, musicians, and songwriters - male and female, young and old - for generations to come. It boggles the mind that she pays for any of this. They should be throwing drum kits at her. LITERALLY!!
I really liked the comment she made about the drum cage making her setup time be more efficient so she "wouldn't bother anybody" in the case of being the opening act, etc. Such a humble and selfless individual. The world needs more people like her.
I think that she's referring to the need to get the band's gear onto and off the stage efficiently when opening or in a festival. If you're slow or late, it creates problems for the band. The crew and promoter can be very judgmental for various reasons. A colleague did a stage call at a show where The Warning played - the crew were whining that The Warning's crew were speaking Spanish among themselves instead of English. Of course, they spoke English to the house crew, but whiners will whine. Once, I did a show with the Bolshoi Ballet, who all spoke Russian, but I thought it was more fun than problematic. TMI!
All three of their personalities shone through on these gear rundowns. These were easily my favourite of their "just talking" videos. They were all so natural and comfortable here.
Absolute monster drummer and she is a gear junkie! All the members of The Warning very down to earth people, a breath of fresh air in todays music business!
These young women from The Warning are the real deal. Humble, hard working, passionate and know what they want from their music. Pau as drummer brings power and integrity to her drums. There is an honesty about their music, never pretentious and never apologetic in their intensity. Love the 'family' focus with this band. Cheers, Rich (originally from Auckland).
@@pablosartor6715Which is purely a popularity vote and has nothing to do with skills. She “beat” drummers who are light years ahead of her in terms of skills, and the category was a very small selection of drummers - not “the world”.
She sings lead in 25-30% of their song while drumming, she is the primary composer, she programs all the tracks in Ableton, even the timings for the projection screens and she plays the piano, just to name a few thing that she does. Still baffled that DW has not sponsored her yet.
I watched this and it reminded me of another video of the ladies when her sisters were trying to describe Pau's drumming. Ale said she reminded her of that Muppet and Dany blurts out "Animal?".
Fun fact Andrew.... I found the Warning through your channel and now they have become my favorite band! I saw them on tour last year with my 12 Y/O daughter and they rocked! Just funny how I had to go all the way from the US to New Zealand to discover a band from Mexico!
@@davesheville2023 by changing his "fantastic" to "popular" you just sound like she didn't deserve it. did you even see her competition??? other fantastic drummers and also "popular"
@@rockero1313 Her competition? You mean like Josh Freese who has the kind resume that drummers would die for and has been doing that for longer than Pau has been alive? Yep, I saw them. And I’m not saying she doesn’t deserve what comes her way, but let’s not pretend that she is actually the “best” going around
This popped up in my youtube feed this morning and i couldn't wait to watch. Always love your reactions especially to my favorite drummer. As a fan that doesn't play the drums, its always great to see how another musician reacts to the content. I really enjoyed this video.
Thanks Andrew. Really enjoyed that. Yes, all three of these sisters are quite engaging if you get the chance to meet with them one on one. All three are extremely knowledgeable on their instruments and have done most of the set up and programming themselves. The one thing I have noticed about her kit is that her cymbals are mounted pretty tightly and not far above the drums since she is 5-foot-nothing. She does not have the 6-foot-plus reach of Danny Carey or Neil Peart. They are also in pretty close to her so that she can do grabs as well. They have released a full concert video from a pair of shows they did in August 2022 at Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City (aka CDMX). One of the best live performance videos I have seen. If you want to see some good drumming, you might try Disciple, Amour, Survive, Dull Knives. But in all honesty, there are no bad tracks from that show. You might also enjoy Narcicista where she steps out from behind the kit, lets her drum mentor play, and she takes the stage as the front woman. That would be more of a Paulina reaction than a 'Paulina plays drums' reaction, but heavens she is fun to watch when let loose on a stage. You have done Evolve twice from them. They also have another version of that they performed at the MTV Video Music Awards this past fall. MTV has not rocked that hard in 25 years.
I can't speak to gear rundowns in general but I'm here for anything The Warning related. I don't know if you're aware but there are several "Pau cam" videos that were recorded by Pau on her cellphone from behind the kit while she's playing during a live set. You may want to review some of those. I even saw a couple where someone edited the Pau cam video together with a fan video of the same show from the audience and its pretty cool to watch.
All that confidence and information, delivered in a second language. The same goes for her lyrics. She's amazing. As a (barely competent) only-English speaker, this always blows me away about this band. This awareness came to me with Jinjer's Tatiana, who also writes amazing and beautifully poetic lyrics in a second language.
I find it so cool. I have only seen the Warning live once and it was at the venue where all 3 sisters were shooting their gear masters episodes. Pau really needs the rack as I have seen 5 or 6 times in the last few years where she had to rent a kit and her drum tech was almost dead from keeping things together.
lol…great comment. Poor Carlos used to get as much on stage time during a live performance as the band did prior to the drum rack. After watching all their after movies and BTS stuff it seems being a member of their “team” is definitely hard work but a very rewarding job as the they are truly part of the family.
When an artist explains what and why they do something, it tells me that it was a deliberate act. That means that they understood the impact that it would have.🤟❤️⚡ Pau ( Pow!)😊
Thanks ... and, yeah ... keep tabs on Pau' ... she's the 'Pau'r' in 'The Warning's Pau'r Trio. Would love to hear your take on her work with sister Ale' on Bass ... it's oft' overlooked how these instruments play with each other to create the beat and rhythm feel of songs.
Cool insights and commentary, Rooney!🙌 You're wanting more The Warning, check out "Disciple" live at Teatro Metropolitan. A great performance by the band and more stellar drumming by Pau.🤘
I love these videos. Ale has done one for her bass. Dany has done one for her guitars...all of her guitars, plus picks, and pedal board. They are very informative and, AND...we get to hear them talk about their instruments! Special emphasis on hear. They are delightful. I watch every thing about The Warning, because they are my favorite band! Oh yeah, I also enjoy your input TOO! LOL
Great video! Check out The Warning song "EVOLVE" live from the MTV awards(VMA's) just a couple of months ago, Paulina literally takes center stage. Also the song "23" live from the TEATRO METROPOLITAN CDMX 2022 Paulina takes lead vocals.
She didn't mention anything about her mic setup tho. I mean her headset mic for singing. Tho would be interesting to hear how they mic her drum kit as well because it always sounds great
Interesting gear rundown. I started out with a kit that was much larger than necessary. I very quickly adopted the KISS mindset when it came to drum gear.
I'm in awe of someone who speaks a second language with no accent. Neither Pau or Ale have a detectable accent. Dany can speak without an accent but I don't think she always worries about it although I would probably think it's just a regional accent rather than a Spanish accent. To be fair... I call it a North American accent. Because 1/2 the US and Canada have that same accent.
As someone from the southwestern US, they all have definitive accents to me, lol. There's a distinct difference in pronunciation on some sounds in native Spanish speakers vs native English speakers in this part of the world. Spanish 'S' sounds at the end of a word are a little shorter and more pure, vs English speakers' have a little more length and a little more 'Z' in them, if that makes sense. 'O' vowels tend to be a little rounder, like they drop their jaw a little more. Subtle differences, but unmistakable.
@@sebrinalilje8057 Well, I'm from Kansas. And Ale and Pau sound like the girl next door. I would never know if I just met them on the street. So does Dany if she's in the in the mood to. But there are a lot of Spanish speakers in Kansas. And there have been a number of studies about Spanish influence on the Kansas accent. Especially in SW Kansas. So there is that. But... I'm not the only one who doesn't hear it.
@@sebrinalilje8057 I barely speak Spanish, but I pay attention to accents and try to get them "right" according to native speakers. Ale is spoken like AH-lay (I've heard some say ale like the beverage); Pau is easy, "pow". But Dany's interesting... Instead of the Spanish saying it like DAH-nee, she anglicizes it to sound like "Danny" in English. Now I have to mention that Teatro is properly pronounced like TAY-AH-TROH. I've verified these pronunciations by listening to how DPA pronounce them. I'll stop now. :)
I enjoyed your thoughts on this video. Paulina is such a good drummer, and a wonderful human being. You mentioned her accent: it's fun to watch interviews or live streams where they go between English and Spanish. Their accent from English: California, to Spanish: Monterey. The cadence, inflections, etc change from sentence to sentence.
I looked at the view counts for the videos on this DTB channel yesterday. Dany had 140000, Ale 125000, and Pau 70000 (wtf?). After that every other of the dozens of other artists had a couple 100 views, at best. Just saying TWA, just saying.
@@MTH58 Yeah, I get that - that was kind of a side point, based on the fact that Pau is such an interesting artist imo. I was just kind of surprised. My main point was the fact that the girls had a 1000x more traffic than anyone else from that same period. That was the part that I was "just saying TWA". ✌
Yes there English is getting better and better. More Pau bell For anyone that wonders why her drums would run away from her look at this 20 second clip ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-psKNa7h7knQ.htmlsi=c6B3VJKCP75oV2Va
I like these , for a person that knows very little about drums it gives a better understanding of what involved and what they have to deal with on stage . better appreciation of the drummers
Gear rundowns sound like a good idea, for those of us that just love music and know nothing about what makes it sound epic, so yeah give us more Andrew, that sounds wonderful, and great video, thank you.
Neat reaction video. Pau's talk about herkit was, to a lay person, very technical. It was cool to hear it, if not exactly translated, more made unterstandable e.g. the Ludwig Black Beauty, I wouldn't have known if this a "basic" snare, or, as you put it, a "classic." Nice to get a bit more an explaination on the make-up pad trick too. FWIW I find it intriguing how The Warning sisters speak English with a an American accent, but slip into a Mexican accent when using Spainish e.g. Carlos. (It also works the other way round.) I gather that their Spainish has a distinctive Mexican accent, and also that Mexican Spainish, is somewhat different to Spainish as spoken in Spain.
Yes, the Spain spanish and the Mexico spanish is different as far as pronounciation, even some words are different. Same goes for the spanish spoken in Colombia, Argentina, Peru etc they all have their differences but can be understood among the different countries that speak spanish.
Just came to read: she has won the drumeo awards! Today is jan, 31st of 2024. They are going to play @ Wacken, this year. I hope there will be a few concerts apart from the festival.
Pau is a tiny ball of Tigger energy, she hits hard enough to break sticks and the occasional bass drum head. When I see her on stage I always think of Animal from The Muppets ❤🤘😁
I just watched a video where Pau is beating the crap out of the kick drum! no wonder it wants to get away from her! what a beating she was putting on that thing! she was almost standing up trying to get as much force as possible.
Good job on the spanish intro! RE her accent is almost non existent so it's easy to forget English is not her native language. There are a couple of giveaways with the S. For example we say 'easy' with more of a Z sound like E-Z, whereas she sticks with the s and sounds like E-C. And when she says 'usually' she has an SH sound in there. If not for those little clues, it'd be so hard to tell. Also, I love these types of videos.
Thanks Andrew, It's fun to see these, although I have a feeling we'd see a lot of the same, or possibly many of us wouldn't understand subtle differences. It was great to see Paulina explain her setup though. Thanks again.
i like this but as a means of stepping off perhaps compare this with Moons kit in the Live at Kilburn 1977 and look at why Moon did what he did and the tech especially wont get fooled again
You noted Pau's lack of accent. All 3 sister's English is extremely good. It's fun to watch their after shows and documentaries where they switch back and forth between Spanish and English effortlessly. Really amazing young ladies.
“I’m a hard hitter”. If anyone needs evidence of that, check out this short 25 sec clip of her going absolute ham on the kit at the end of a song a few years ago: ru-vid.compsKNa7h7knQ?si=pVWsYdGUW80kO0Kt 😎👍
Moar cowbell ftw....... You want to react to more of The Warning, try their live performance of Evolve at the MTV VMAs recently. They smash it out of the park...... Allegedly one of the producers declared after their performance "I am now a fan". Oh also they were they only live band to kill it in a single take.
When I was a session bassist in Detroit we always used women's panty liner fgor muting or dampening drums. They come with their own adhesive strips and you can cut them to whatever size you desire. They work great.
Drumeo: Pau... The Best Drummer of The Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
