Paulina, the drummer, is 17 years old here and is only about 5 feet tall. Not only does she drum and sing, but she is the main song writer for the band. She usually starts their songs on the piano (yes, she plays that too) then the three sisters finish them together. Third album coming out soon!
She also handles all the tech for the tours. She set up the click tracks and media that plays on screens. She switches them throughout the performance. The click track in their inears is why they are always so tightly in sink. Pau is really smart.
@@Nightfighter82 I didn’t know any of that and that’s important stuff to know. Do you know anything about their monitors, I heard something about how different they are compared to traditional ones./
The Warning are the REAL DEAL. Us old crusty metal heads world wide have adopted them as our own daughters, and are RABIDLY protective of the Jewels of Monterrey. In attitude, they are exactly like Rush. My goal in life is to attend The Warning's 40th anniversary tour as I did R40.
Well put, I see the Rush in their blood. Definitely the right mindset! I only started following The Warning last fall, and among many others eagerly waiting the drop of their freshly recorded album! Love everything that they have done. Been a Rush fan a looong time.
The Warning are three sisters that started making music very young Alejandra (Ale = Aleh, not the beer. Bass, backing vocals and keyboard, the youngest) and Paulina (Pau = Pow. Drums, backing/lead vocals and keyboard, middle sister) at 3 and Daniela (Dany = Dany. Guitar, lead vocals and keyboard, the oldest) 5, all learning classical piano. They got the video game Rock Band and fell in love with the feeling of performing on other instruments. Their father asked if they wanted to learn another instrument and the girls jumped at the opportunity and gravitated to the instruments they played in Rock Band. They had been uploading their musical journey to RU-vid for their family to see and had wanted to try and play music together as a band around 2012 and rehearsed for a small performance for their school xmas show. Well They loved the experience so much they began learning and playing cover songs of hard rock and metal bands. One song in particular shot them into the limelight. That song, "Enter Sandman" by Metallica had gone viral (currently over 22 000 000 views) and had gotten the attention of Metallica, Dee Snyder and The Ellen Show!.The Warning wrote, composed and recorded an EP called Escape the Mind in 2015 to experience that whole process and to determine what type of music they liked to make... Thankfully they chose Rock/Hard Rock! Ellen Degeneres invited the band to play live on her show, to which they accepted and played Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne, after the performance Ellen and Target awarded the sisters $10 000 each to attend Berklee School of Music in Boston. They performed a number of small and large shows afterward and began writing and composing new material for their first full length album XXI Century Blood in 2017. They supported this album with some very high profile gigs like opening for Def Leppard and separately The Killers for two shows each in Mexico. Also following other large rock bands in a couple music festivals. In 2018 they wrote and recorded Queen of the Murder Scene and released it in November of that year and have toured Mexico and South American venues. In June of 2019 they released a single, Narcisista. A scathing rebuke of their Mexican critics that had accused the band of being "Malinchista" a Mexican term used to call out cultural traitors, because the group has only recorded English language songs. Well this song is in Spanish and it is full of attitude and angst fired toward those critics. This was recorded live in June 2019 st Foro Didi in Monterrey Mx (their hometown) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O7IAEhN4RMM.html The Warning is totally fan funded through Patreon, RU-vid and crowdfunding platforms like GoFundMe and Kickstarter. They have turned down offers from record labels and talent shows like American Idol because they did not want to lose their control of their music, image and wanted to focus on learning. In fact in one interview with a record label they were asked if they would rather play to 12 people or 12000. Paulina piped up and said The Warning would rather play in front of 12 if it meant they would keep their integrity and could play the music they want to play, how they want to play... That is the most Rock n Roll quote ever! So after a very successful Kickstarter campaign to raise fund for a North American tour and to record a new album achieving their goal within 24 hours and surpassing that goal by 600%. Unfortunately the Covid19 Pandemic forced the band to cancel their tour plans and postpone making their album. Their last live show before the global lock down was March 14 2020 at the Vive Latino 2020 Festival in Mexico City. This did not stop The Warning from performing though, they played a full concert set from their basement studio/rehearsal space for free for their fans on RU-vid and Facebook achieving well over 50000 simultaneous viewers on March 25 2020. They have since performed from The Warning a couple more times including for the city of Brownsville Tx for the Fourth of July virtual celebration and later in the summer for a charity event with rock legends like Slash and Ringo Star. On August 9th 2020 The Warning announced to their Patreon community that after seven long months of negotiations they had signed a five record deal with Lava Records a label under the Republic Records and Universal Music family. During the announcement they reiterated their dedication to their own creative integrity and dedicated fans on Patreon and were able to retain both in their record contract with Lava. In Sept of 2020 The Warning traveled to New Jersey USA to begin rehearsal and eventually recording of their third album. After 3 months of recording and a month and a half of mastering, mixing and editing the third album was completed at the beginning of February 2021. All that remains as of 22 02 21 is the album design and artwork amd logistics of the release which will hopefully happen by April 2021. So now you've been WARNED! I hope you will check out more of their music and see how they have grown. Oddly enough, after my comment from yesterday, I got into this group... they were not trying to Jam the music in my.... ear. They had a tune, carried it throughout, voices were not drowned out by the instruments, didn't scream the words, connected, and simply jammed. My first Metal band...
I’m not sure they fit neatly into any rock sub-genre. They combine pop, punk, metal and prog influences, probably other things too. Individual songs can remind you of various other bands but then the next song is different. And none of the fans really know exactly what the next album will sound like overall.
And they are still young and still improving. Fortunately as sisters with a home practice/live stream studio they’ve been able to work all through the pandemic-and have a third album coming out soon on Lava Records
The Warning sound is a throwback to classic rock with a few other elements thrown in. They are about to put out their third album any time now. This song is the first song in a concept album called Queen of the Murder Scene, a story of obsession followed by murder and psychosis, you know everyday teenage girls stuff. Paulina, who goes by Pau (Pow) is the drummer, sometimes sings lead, is the principal songwriter, and runs the click track and visuals during shows. She is extremely animated and hits really hard and yet has great timing and precision. There are other tracks that really showcase her aggressive drumming style, "Unmendable" probably being the best example. Thanks for your review and expect an invasion from a very loyal fanbase known as The Warning Army.
I just said the same thing above before I saw that you said it. The Band had a great interview here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9L5R4ErAPpk.html with a British Guitarist. This is where I fell in love with this band. Not only are they amazing musicians, they all have awesome fun personalities too. #you'vebeenwarned
There is absolutely something to the siblings-in-harmony thing... something about timing or tone, I dunno, but the history is there, with the Everly Brothers, the Bee Gees, this list goes on.
I can tell you that I have never been so hyped about any band in my whole life as I am with The Warning they just have something special that gets you hooked to them and their music cheers Andrew and I hope you keep reacting to their music
Wait until you realize that their 2nd album "queen of the murder scene", where this song is towards the end, plays like a book, where each song is the next chapter of a story that they are telling. Mind blown, the talent level.
More of The Warning! They don't release a bad song. This is also the intro to their concept album Queen of the Murder Scene, which tells the story of a disturbed young woman's inner journey from desire to obsession to murder and madness. The songs are told from the point of view of either the young lady's inner psychopath or her good side, which has a conscience - until it does not.
This band is one of the reasons i can't wait for things to go back to normal. I discovered them just before lock down and they give me hope for the future of rock music
If anyone can be a FRONTMAN (or woman) from way back behind the kit, it's PAU!!! And she's sure to LET YOU KNOW IT!!! Either she's standing up, waving her free hand around over her head, leaning and rocking back and forth while screaming...she's a treasure, and a pleasure to watch! Please do more of The Warning, the song "Survive" from TED Talks hows her handling a broken stick mid-song, you wouldn't notice if she wasn't caught on camera. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E62SVvLw9FI.html
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Keep in mind when you watch that that she was 15 at the time. They're notorious both for having tech problems during shows (what happens when you don't have a lot of funding behind you) and for getting through them. At another big festival show that year, the bassist (Ale, who was 12) somehow lost her connection during the out of Survive. Dany came over and kept playing while looking at it, they evidently decided that there was nothing to be done, so Ale did what she could by clapping into her vocal mic. I suspect that not a lot of teens or pre-teens would have the calm and cool under fire, as it were. But this is their passion and they're going to do what it takes.
@@robertkrawitz8237 When you know you are with your sisters, and that they always have your back, that probably gave her a sense of calm to get through it. But you are correct. Not many could have not melted during that.
Welcome to the best power trio on the scene today with off the charts talent and personalities to match! Paulina goes by Pau (Pow) but she’ll answer to her nickname, The Shredder. More Warning!
Ah, those we days when you could attend shows. I love the sound. Drumming is good considering singing. But above all, don't you just enjoy the sound of proper harmonies. It just makes the music that much richer
Not many independent bands from Mexico sell out the Whisky on back to back nights. Thankfully, I was there front and center. There is plenty more good stuff where that came from. You ain't seen nothin yet.
I was there both nights in January 2020, simply the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Got to love a power trio, theirs nowhere to hide 👌 Dig in, theirs a lot of great original songs to discover, I’m sure The Warning army will chime in with some great recommendations 👍
I discovered The Warning this am, got a note about them on Facebook. Have listening to them the whole day. I getting emotional. They are not only playing so fantastic, they are also delivering their feelings in the songs. Attitude and feelings. As he said i Jaws: "You need a bigger boat !". To The Warning: "You need a bigger stage !"
Andrew You Have Been Warned, this Band is Amazing I discovered them in December of 2014 when they were 14, 12, and 9 years old when they did a cover of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" that video to this date has over 22 million views on RU-vid, the guys from Metallica saw the Video and they Liked it, they especially liked the Drummer Paulina (Pau pronounced Pow). I traveled to Chihuahua Mexico from Texas to see them in Concert in 2018 and got to meet them after the concert and had my picture taken with them as you can tell by my Profile picture, and they Autographed the poster I bought there, I framed it, it's hanging in my Bedroom.
This is the first song of their epic rock opera masterpiece Queen of the Murder Scene. A story of longing, regret, unrequited love and follows a woman into madness. The two best songs are the first, this song and the last The End (Stars Always Seem To Fade). They did all of this on Kickstarter and Patreon when they were in their mid-teens and it was nominated for Rock Album Of The Year at the Indie Music Awards. If you ever wanted to hear a girl make a guitar cry then go watch The End (Stars Always Seem To Fade) Live at Lunario
Completely agree about your comment on how Pau makes the drums sound amazing. She can be seen playing on different kits in different venues but they all sound great consistently
The Villarreal sisters from Monterrey México, at this moment Daniela (guitarra and lead vocals) is 21, Paulina (lead vocals as well) is 19 and Alejandra (bass), they have oponed for the killers, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, megadeth, Vince Neil, among others, tour un Argentina and Colombia, played un 2019 and 2020 in whiskey a gogo.
Played The Whisky in 2018 too. : ) I'm reasonably certain they debuted "Dull Knives" that night. The videos are out there. It was the beginning of a meaningful relationship with The Whisky a GoGo. I was fortunate enough to be at the 2019 show, and I have never been the same. Best concert of my life.
@@johnafagerquist8235 you are correct on the year of their first Whiskey show and they did play Dull Knives as well..I was there. I was also there in 2019 as well. Almost made it to 2020 but stupid family issues intervened.
at this point Pau has already been playing drums for 10years.All 3 are classically trained on piano as well. They do use a backing track and Pau controls it with the laptop beside her. also use Inearz to stay tight but can easily get by without it when it goes down. Pau has also done some really cool 20sec beats on Tiktok! They are going to explode this year!
Cool reaction! The Warning is the best emerging band that I have heard in a long time, the perfect combination of talent, energy and charisma and also with an out of this world drummer. I hope to see more of The Warning on your channel!
Pau is a beast on the drums. This is just a little piece of how good she is. I like when she really gets going and her ponytail is flying all over the place. I love this girl
G'day mayte ! From a fellow Kiwi. The Warning are one band you are gonna want to react to more, especially with Pau "The Shredder" Villarreal ! She may not technically be the most proficient female drummer out there, but her speed, power and vocals, usually backing vocals will put any other female drummer to shame (Sheila E may be the exception),but Paus performances are getting legendary. Even their first proper You Tube upload of them performing Metallicas "Enter Sandman" (which has over 22 million views) from 2014,from when I first saw them, even caught Metallicas Kirk Hammett saying that she is "maximum kick ass". The thing is the girls were only 10,13 and 15. Yup,you gotta react to more of The Warning, possibly to see Paus more aggressive drumming, try "Queen Of The Murder Scene" or their cover of another Metallica song "Atlas Rise"...and yes mate,we are lucky in NZ to be able to go out to clubs, and bars etc to see live acts...But would love to see these girls play here - and yes,you have been warned
My exact feeling you want to see them in a bar, but they also played in big arena's already and can fill it easily with their power. They are a great live band. I've not yet been vaccinated against the Warning-bug because this one is healthy and gives you positive energy. They have huge potential, but they have to work on their vocals. Often in the second part of concerts they sing too much off tone, though it is getting better; they have to listen to the girls of Foxes & Fossils. The man singing in the middle is Rudy (manager). Their parents are also hugely involved. That father must have worn the Ray Misterio mask every time making these three girls, it is Mexican magic. This song (2nd night in TWAGG) is part of their second (concept) album Queen of the Murder Scene. Despite they are sisters, they have very different personalities. Pau the drummer has something very few drummers have. She has got the precense to lead the band. It is allmost if you are walking into a broadway musical when she sings. Her singing in Black Holes is fantastic, considering she wrote the song when she was 14 year old. Dany is the postergirl, the saleswoman and the painter. I think a lot of people underestimate her quality in creating space in songs. The final 2 minutes of Survive shows what she can create, supported by the great rhythm section of Pau & Ale, Dany paints a spheric world of musicality that few were able to do at that age. The older Ale gets, the more she speaks and the more she uses her facial expression and hands to support that. It is great to see her growing up. Music is often a matter of preferences and I like that round solid bass sound. Ale has that sound, she is a real bass player and not a guitar player on a bass. She also grooves, you can also fysically see that in the way she moves on stage when she sings. Ale sometimes sings the lead on Red hands... and The Hunter when Dany is not feeling well. I hope that she will develop that skill because the band probably will benefit from that. They have just finished their 3rd album, which is not released yet. Keep an eye on them because they all play piano and will make great songs and give great concerts. If you would do another song of them I would recommend Survive. Thanks for the great review and to your wise patreon.
She sings maybe 25-30% of the leads. There are quite a few songs where she shares lead with Dany, sometimes one (usually Dany) sings the verses while the other sings the chorus, sometimes it's singing two different characters in one song, sometimes Pau picks up the lead on the fly if Dany has a tech issue, sometimes the pattern's not obvious. I believe I read that she trains by singing while running or jumping rope (they don't participate in other sports because of injury risk). Given their fanatical attention to detail this makes sense. She also composes most of their songs at the piano, after which they collaborate.
Pau the drummer, at the start of the pandemic, did a solo version of Creep. Just her and her piano. They are all highly talented, multi instrumentalist
Pau Pow, The shredder. I just figure out that she always tries to keep their arms open when singing, I guess to keep their chest more open. She also used to have a hihat on the right side I don't know if it is for the same reason or just to have different accents. Gonna dig into that Also, she manage the backing tracks, visuals and Dany pedalboard through midi pedals and pad triggers. Multitasking in a 4'11 frame What else? Besides drumming and singing.... And, songwriting and piano player... I just keep editing this post
Alejandra, Paulina and Daniela are all very gifted musicians but Pau is truly an amazing talent, I've spent my whole life listening to the greatest music and despite the great drummers like John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon I've never really had a favorite, until Paulina Villarreal came along, she's completely satisfying !
I just LOVE the fact that a buckeroo is enlightening a kiwi about a chica who is saving english rock for the rest of the world. Oh, Interwebs ... No offense meant with any of those terms.
Great new find - for me too! just went through their history and did a bit of research - cannot wait to hear this new album they cut end of last year... thanks!!! Pretty amazing story here...
I’ve been a fan of them ever since I saw their video of them performing a Muse song at a high school, many years ago. They have come a long way since then! Unmendable is my favorite song by them
Totally agree. The sound comes from the musician. I'm quite impressed that she can sing while doing fills. I have always found that beyond my skills. I usually only sing backing vocals. Singing a melody with a different rhythmic pattern than the groovde I'm playing has always been challenging to me. Thanks again, Andrew.
In a lot of past shows she used the house kit, they don’t have roadies or a big bus to travel in. Pau does bring her own cymbals. This one is DW which is what she has at home, but that might be a coincidence. They did have a complete kit set up for the North American tour in 2020 which of course got cancelled.
They used to do covers when they were younger. They have a cover of Metalica Enter Sandman when they were 14, 12, and 9 years old respectively and they smash it out of the park. When they were a little older they cover Foo Fighters The Pretender - which is better than the Foo Fighters original. One of their last covers is Metalica Atlas Rise and they are incredible. Check them out. One other song you might want to check out is Narcissista - which is their only Spanish language song and Pau sings lead on that as well. 60
Great reaction, with drumming knowledge! Pau is a superb drummer, loves her toms and cymbals, sponsored by Sabian, singing lead on some songs! Check out Unmendable or Dull Knives, both have shredding drumming endings... these Sisters from Monterrey/MEX are amazingly talented, Pau together with young Ale, the bassist, are a super tight rhythm section! 👍⚡️🤘
@@nahadoth2087 if you've seen the Dust to Dust performance from The Show Up you might rethink that. There might not be another drummer on the planet who could have pulled off what she did after she lost her stick. She played a cymbal with her hand, swapped the stick to that hand, did double duty with that stick while grabbing another stick, and delivered the next vocals while doing it. Never missed a beat and handled lead vocals flawlessly. Watch it a few times and it only blows your mind even more. Name one other drummer that could have done this. I'll wait...
Shortly after they were signed by Lava Lizzie Hale asked them to tour with Halestorm . It seems like an eternity since that happened but maybe things are turning for the better for these young ladies gifted with a ton of talent. I personally have been following these young ladies for years and if there was any young band wanting to get back on the road its theses trio of sisters . You have been warned. Lol
The 3 sisters are very talented and from a young age shown they have exceptional skill. All are multi instrumentalists. All play piano (clip showing Pau at 8 and Dani at 10 playing classical together). Dani plays sax too. The girls were 15,17 and 19 here. The 2 eldest have written some very mature material for their age, from 14 mainly. Pau is a great reader so most of the emotional and relationship lyrics are derived from her books. Check out the school concert when the girls were 10,13 and 15. Firstly for Ale’s bass work in Muse’s Hysteria. It’s a really busy bass line and she breezed through it at aged 8. Look at their version of Foo Fighters Everlong. Really highlights Pau’s drumming skill at 13. The song is fast and needs some really busy hi hat work and fills and she nails it. She doesn’t have Dani’s vocal strength but it’s more emotional and very much suited to the ballads she’s written. Dani has had good stage presence from her mid teens and Ale has grown in confidence with each passing year. The lead vocal has strengthen considerably. For a 3 piece band they are very good. Another guitarist would ‘fill’ their sound. Extra professional tuition would be helpful too. Raw talent that can be taken to the next level. Ale slapping the bass, varying her lines,Pau varying her fills (in time for some solos) and Dani for creativity and solo work. They’ve done incredibly well so far considering they’ve released 2 original albums by this age Another good clip is their version of Foo Fighters The Pretender at 10,13 and 15. Had very good production teams for their MV’s from a young age. They have plenty of time to reach higher levels. It will be tough to reach the quality of bands like Band Maid but skill wise with extra practice, it is possible to improve quite considerably. The Warning are another sign of how far and quickly female musicianship has progressed in the last decade in particular. So many great guitarists and drummers that deserve to be more highly recognised.
@@thancrow That’s good. I wish them the very best. To do as well as they have at such young ages is a real credit to them. Like to see their skills advancing in years to come. The upside potential is significant with further training. Don’t view this as criticism but a comment of optimising their skills to the best level. There’s certain elements not there yet but hopefully will come with time. Another guitarist would fill their sound. At the moment,it’s not always a true live show. Having recorded guitars. There’s plenty of fine female guitarists that I’m sure would do a wonderful job.
Greetings from Fresno, California, USA. Great reaction/review! I've been a subscriber of yours for close to a year now (I'm a drummer too). The Villareal sisters are amazing songwriters and performers who are truely grateful and endearing to their fans. I was fortunate enough to get to meet them after this same show. The best show I've been to in a couple decades! 🔥🤘😎👍💯💕👏👏
If you want to see impressive drumming can you react to Paulina ( Warning ) drum the Foo Fighters song Everlong at their school concert at the Liceo , she was about 12/13 years old . Unbelievable performance . Even better than Taylor Hawkins ,IMO. Cheers !
@@AgusRodriguezY Yes, I’ve watched that video too many times, like any other live song from TW. To me Pau has a mix of Portnoy, Moon, Bonham, Peart, and Grohl
You needs to watch her later videos. Pau (pow) has a lot bigger kit now. Also one of the things she is famous for fans is how many sticks she breaks and never misses a beat.
I do wish more reactors would view their Foro Didi concert. It has the best sound, the best performance. So, please, do yourself a favor if you haven't already and watch their Foro Didi concert. It's awesome!
The Male vocal line was not tracked it is their manager Rudi standing stage left. All three sisters started with classical piano at a very young age. The band came along as a result of the Rock Band video game. All three were very into it and after finishing the first one, were complaining about how long it was taking for the next one to come out. Their dad said something to the effect of why don't you get real instruments to play instead of playing the video game and The Warning was born. Someone from the company that produces Rock Band heard about it and if you check the song list for Rock Band 4 there are two of The Warnings original songs included. There first major success was a cover of Enter Sandman which got over ten million views in a relatively short time. Also in addition to piano/keyboard and their primary instrument all three sisters sing.
Ive checked them out before their good she did an awsome job. Whiskey a go go . Yoyoka played there . After the Ellen DeGeneres show . Enjoyed your expert commentary as always thanks stay safe.
Gidday Andrew, you have to check more of The Warning out. I was so impressed I subbed them asap! I'm only aware of one album of their's albums @ the mo which they produced & delivered, it's called "Queen of the Murder Scene", (QOTMS), a concept album that is written so well, very impressive. TY for your reaction, from Kiwi-land, baaaa!!
Pau is amazing! I am a proud Patreon supporter of the band for 2 years now. For the records (pun intended...) they have another self-produced album titled "XXI Century Blood" - there is an amazing official video for the title song. They also have a self-produced EP titled "Escape the mind" (made closerto their debut). Not a bad song TBH. Cheers!
I can barely drum or sing, as in, other than making contact on a drum with a stick and strange random intervals, and my singing is more like 2 cats fighting in the middle of a pack of hyenas.
Weird thing for me is I that I can't talk or sing when I "try" to play guitar but I can play RockBand and sing/drum at the same time. Granted I will kick it down to Hard level for drums because its hard to watch both tracks. It does take your breath away quick. Lucky for her to be young!
I only discovered The Warning 2 days ago while checking out various drum covers of "Kick start my heart". There is a part when there is a double beat on the album and drummers including Tommy don't play it live. I found a very old clip of Pau before they were a band and she hit the double beat. Instantly I went WTF as had just watched out 8 or 9 clips which missed the beat. Straight away started searching for newer clips because if she could do that with feeling as an 8 or 9 year old what is she doing now! She lovers her floor toms and cymbals.
Great reaction! Paulina is a real showman (showwoman?)! She is tiny, but powerful (Pauerful!). Thank you for reacting to The Warning!! I hope you will discover more of their amazing music! Subscribed!
Unfortunately there is a much better video of a live performance of this which films the drummer way better. This band is my major find of 2021. Awesome. New album right now please.
