Hey, I'm so glad you finally got to hear VOB! I love that they defy a lot of preconceived notions, and write songs of many different social importance. Their talent is very real, and both Sitti on drums and Widi on bass are outstanding musicians, along with Marsya on guitar and vocals. That said, I'd want you to have seen one of their live performances where you can really see and hear their talents. And bear in mind that they have truly paid their dues, so to speak, in that they have suffered backlash in their community for making their music, even from some family members. And their backgrounds are extremely humble indeed - I've seen video of Widi practicing her bass on a dirt floor while her mum makes dinner. They've worked extremely hard to develop their natural talents to become world-class musicians and songwriters.
Great to see your reaction. Took me back to my first hearing VoB a wee while ago. A brief word on Sitti's drumming (I'm a guitarist not a drummer). To my, untutored ears, her style is unconventional (in the general sense that Ringo Starr's drumming was unconventional) but acutely musically intelligent. Sitti switches between supporting the bass line, the guitar riff or the vocal melodic pattern as the song demands it, she's not just keeping time for this passage or that. For instance, the sparse staccato section near the start of School Revolution which prominently features Widi's bass only works because of what Sitti is doing behind it and she repeats for Marsya and Widi alternately throughout the song. Check out any VoB song and you'll hear just how effective her musical contribution is; her driving and often complex double pedal kick drum work especially. I'd particularly recommend the extended studio version of Kentut Merdeka with its long intro with its sudden and varied time signature changes. But, hey, I'm only a guitarist, so what would I know.
You mean Kentut Merdeka in Shoebox session? They sang 3 songs in there, the PMS (Indonesian version with extra intro than the English/album version). Maybe you already know 😂😂
@@Si_nengatcha definitely the Shoebox session version is the one I was thinking of. Also the one they played at Jakarta Fair 2019. I realise the reason for the song (a protest at threatened restrictions on what music was permissible) has passed but I wish they could find a way to play it now. It's such a stunning song.

Hi Andrew thanks for nice reaction. I think you have to go back little bit about their journey in musically skills and talent. They have started playing music by age of 14 from 0 to hero mostly autodidact. In 2 years they created their own songs and they posted online and got a lot of command from many musicians, one of them is Tom Morello, he saw them as a band with bright future. He invited them to play in the USA in 2018, but it was cancelled because of visa problem. I see, it is normal if they played not 100% perfect with only 3/4 years experience.
A very talented and courageous young band. Have endured various forms of harassment but defiantly and triumphantly continue to play the music they love. Check out "God Allow Me Please to Play Music," killer slap bass! Also do some nice covers of Metallica, RATM, Beastie Boys, etc.🔥🤘
