This season and even last season were bangers, idk why so many people hate it. Red like Rose's 3 hits so much harder in the actual episode, you gotta atleast watch for that.

People have been hating on Volume 9 because it was so different, even though the setting just expands on the fact that a lot of in-universe fairy tales are real. The haters just can’t let people enjoy things that they don’t, and they refuse to look past the Ever After and look at the writing and animation and voice acting.

I highly suggest you check out her band OK Goodnight. Their drummer is actually kinda nuts, from what I can hear from their songs at least.

I highly suggest you check out another song from this Volume: *Trapdoor* also it’s just Casey Lee Williams singing/writing the music now, as after Volume 8, Jeff Williams retired, hell, Volume 9’s entire soundtrack is a lot more varied in musical styles because Casey’s style is more varied

Jeff Williams retired so now Casey and Martin compose the ost. Martin is the insane guitarist on this and all the other tracks this volume, he was a part of Ok Goodnight, though he left the band recently. And not to kill the magic or anything, but the drums are actually programmed by Martin. He does an amazing job composing the drum track to be playable and making it sound organic, but I'm pretty sure no one was actually playing physical drums. Jeff did the same thing when he composed the music, his drum tracks were usually programmed. Also I don't know what specifically put you off about volume 8, but people have pretty consistently been calling volume 9 one of the best in the series, so maybe you'd enjoy it.

For me, Volume 8 was one of those seasons that had things happen simply for the sake of plot and there were just some unusually dumb decisions made by some of the characters, which I will not go into here to avoid spoilers for those who aren't caught up. The soundtrack while it still had a few good songs simply felt lackluster. Like there was only a couple songs from the volume I like and the rest either I didn't like or were just much less than I expected. And then there's the song Awake, which is an Ok Goodnight song and was not made for RWBY. It is Casey's song, so she does have a right to put it in. It's just that including it tells me that they really were lacking in the soundtrack for whatever the reason may be. I don't hate volume 8 by any means. But I do find it the least enjoyable volume so far.

Jeff Williams still worked on some of the soundtrack, but has now passed the conductor's baton and pencil to Casey Lee, his daughter (She sings *and* composes now). This was and is awesome! My dream has been, and continues to be a special edition of Austin City Limits with Casey Lee/Jeff, the Orchestra, OK Goodnight, all RWBY music. Playing Guitar is Martin Gonzalez...and his fingers burned that guitar.

although I don't necessarily agree that vol 8 was bad, I can definitely see your point but! you should definitely watch vol 9, it's easily one of my favourites of the entire show atm. the quality in the entire thing is honestly incredible.

I actually really "enjoyed" volume 8, but that's mostly because I was correctly anticipating what it was building to in volume 9, and this song is a perfect encapsulation of that. (Enjoyed in quotes because it was not for the most part an enjoyment characterized by positive emotions, but that's the point)

It’s a pretty good track, but I remember feeling like it was just a bit too busy for no good reason. Definitely the kind of tone I like though.

Like you, season 7 and 8 kinda killed the show for me, but season 9 completely brought me back into the show. I seriously recommend it

Volume 8 was pretty disappointing in music as well. There's still one or two good songs, but that's it. And one of the songs in that soundtrack, Awake, is not actually a RWBY song. It's an Ok Goodnight song. Still Casey Lee Williams, but still. Though to be a fair, it looks like Casey is running the music show now, if you'll notice that Jeff Williams isn't being named on volume 9 soundtrack cover art. So alot of the music is starting to sound like Ok Goodnight.

During Volume 8 OST The Casey family had some health problems (I don't know any details) so that probably affected the OST a lot, many people were angry about Cinder's song being 1 minute long. (And that's just my guess, maybe Jeff's heart wasn't in it that much anymore, hence the retirement)

I don't know if it's my hearing, the way they mixed it or the way Casey was singing but I heard a lot of lisping in the latter parts of the song. It wasn't for me as a Red Like Roses track, there were lots of amazing parts but... urgh sorry for me it falls flat as a successor. Still an amazing track, I just don't feel like it's a patch on this first volume.

Casey Lee Williams is the singer and writer (i think) Jeff Williams is typically the guitarist but also shares a voice and even whole songs (lionize for example) not on the soundtrack directly but definitely seems likes it!

I still say Casey be slipping. That weird guitar thing that happens immediately after “im what inspired the fairy tale” just sounds like a guitar trying to mimic tv static. It just sounds off and makes the rest of the song drop off for me in an unsatisfying way. The rest hits hard but yeah that would be my main nit pic. Just no real satisfying hit near the end.

12:17 this sums up what I mean. I don’t think this dude can even hide his meh feelings for it. You can see the pain in his face listening to it, then the guitar solo saves it. It goes. Initial shock. Ooo? Slow realization of what it is. “That is… different…” Grits teeth in hopes something will save it. Am I reading way too into it? Yeah.
