Nice Drummer, with 65 years of influential lyrics, Neil Young is still recording and touring. the pandora that is his music is right there with a few others who chose to blaze their own path once they found their voice to make their decisions.
Stephen Stills once said that every time he plays with Neil he teaches Neil a little more about polish and Neil teaches him a little more about being real. Something like that. Neil’s entire career is real and authentic and has touched my soul since I was 12…. I’m now 68. Sometimes you listen to a new song or album from Neil and you don’t connect immediately and then you listen to it a few months or years or decades later and it clicks. Thanks Lee. You’re real too!
Lee, you are an old soul and more in touch with what's important in life than most. You should be extremely proud of yourself. Wish I had a grandson like you. 👍😊
As a much older woman, having seen loss and sorrow, I am so glad that you have turned the corner and are starting over! Sometimes we don't know how blessed we are. A daughter! Wonderful! Enjoy the music discovery journey! And live the precious life you have been given.
Neil Young always takes me back to when I was young.Such a great song writer, and singer.I've seen him quite a few times live, along with crosby stills and nash. And by himself. He is phenomenal.
Man, I am so happy that I found your channel. I am so grateful that you are sharing your journey with us. I’m 62 and have been listening to some of this music for most of my life, and I really enjoy your reactions and insights.
Great reaction Lee sometimes we have to reinvent ourselves to move forward you’ve been through the depths of the dark side but you come out the other side into the light take it from an old man I can tell you that I’m not getting any smarter but with old age comes wisdom You’re younger than you realize believe me you’ve got a whole lot of life and living ahead of you just always try to be the best version of yourself every day
Listening to this in 1973 at the age of 20, i was philosophical too. He had that effect. Joni Mitchell too. Jackson Browne wrote some songs to live your life by.
I mean, come on, I mean, how great is this guy? I grew up with him. And I just felt so lucky. Because what he sings, what he writes, his voice, the uniqueness.... and he's the kind of person that anytime I hear him, and whenever a song is done, I want to hear another one, and again after that 1 is done, I wantna hear another 1 again. Unique and superb and he was one of the voices of our late 60s early 70s generation.
A actual human being 😀 these artists are like old friends, we’ve grown old together. Some of the best shows are just some people on stage playing with the memories of our youth
He and Joni Mitchell wrote songs about each other. She sang with CSNY sometimes. You'll like his song Sugar Mountain.... kids would prolly like it, too. Joni also recorded it. Neil Young - Sugar Mountain (Live at Farm Aid 1995) w/ Willie Nelson
Neil’s BBC concert was some of his best performances IMO. Love it when he starts talking about the song or whatever, he’s such a genuine soul with a heart of gold 💛
you have to see him playing Rockin in the free world live at the mtv awards sharing the stage with Pearl Jam... he's a great inspiration of the grunge movement and it shows in this performance how those young guns pay respect to Neil... the grandfather of Grunge he his
As I get older this song resonates with me deeper and deeper as the only "wealth" worth having in this world and the next is the love you share with another. ❤
- Such a great song. - Such a great song writer and musician. - Have loved this song since 1972 when it came out, and I was just 11 y.o. - Neil for the win :)
Like shedding your skin, in a way. The best of life lived is one engaged in the act of living, the bad and the good. The most beautiful of spirits have been forged, going through the fire. I have gone through all of a fairly long life as a ciff jumper, and trusted in my landing. And here I am, where, is a real sense of accomplishment. I've dared, leaped, been called a lunatic.Live your life from the inside out; shape your circumstance instead of the other way round. Wishing you well-
Man his vocals are crazy good here. He sounds sorrowful even when hes not. This is a guy in his early 20s, singing about growing old lonely, and it sounds 100% real. I dont even rank this among my essential Neil songs, but I'm amazed every time i see this video. His vocal is perfect.
Nice one man. I was 15 back then. As an old father of 4 and grandfather of 3, I agree. Keep your family safe. They are your world and you are theirs. Some of us listen. Take care.
Neil isn't joking about this being a new song. This is 1971. The song wasn't released until Harvest was released on 1972. It was his biggest hit. Two great somgs that may hit you hard. "Tonight's the Night" - Neil Young and Crazy Horse (title track of the album recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975. Bill Berry was their roadie.) "The River" - Bruce Springsteen (1980 - title track to a double album of great rock songs. Make sure to have the lyrics open or watch a lyric video. There may be a live video from the No Nukes concert of this song.)
You seem like an awesome guy. Your mom must be so proud of you and grateful that you have a new life. I love watching your reactions and hearing your thoughts. Love that you are enjoying the music that has been the soundtrack to my life.
The people who now live in the house Neil Young lived in while in Winnipeg arrived home one day to see a shabbily dressed guy standing at their door. They noticed he had really expensive cowboy boots on. They approached him to ask what they could do for him. It was Bob Dylan saying he wanted to see where Neil Young grew up.
A Heart of Gold - Something most of us are searching for in life; someone who will love us no matter what. Someone we can grow old with. It's SO hard to find because all people are flawed, and if we're honest with ourselves we don't have a heart of gold either. But since I committed my life to a loving God, I now have a foundation and base for love that nobody can take from me. And it's a love that helps me to better love those around me. It's helped me to stay faithful to my wife who separated from me 16 years ago, to deal with the horrors of her childhood. It's helped bring incredible healing to my wife, and now God uses her to help many other broken people. For real love is patient and kind, never jealous and always hopeful. God has been that way to me, which inspires me to share that love with others. ISA 58
A few of us have had those stories Lee. They say the elite is the 1 percent. But those that survive the relapses , make amends, and continue on the journey of life...that's the true one percent. Keep on keeping on keeping on.! Sincerely, a 50 year old one percenter. ( in Step, SRV) ..
Neil Young actually did record a concert at Toronto's Massey Hall in 1971 (so not the same as the BBC concert in London). He combined his song "A Man Needs a Maid" with "Heart of Gold": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j_bOsmP2g80.htmlsi=uoHdaMX9AQgQfgk9 One of best covers of a Neil Young song is "After the Goldrush" (1970) sung by Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o2XcBL6kWn8.htmlsi=bXpzlhXJftjCUQS_
I don't blame you for liking his music so much, I was the same way when I first heard him. That was about 30 years ago, I still love every note of his music. Whether it's acoustic or electric, solo or with a band, I can't get enough.
Well, to identify with Neil Young s not exactly a bad thing. He s a musical marvel, a pioneer of sorts with his immense songwriting skills and overall talent. Yes Neil Young s always produced his journey in life through his music lens. Most could relate to him easily then although I believe he is still touring in his later years. Hope you remain grounded and follow your light always. Wishing you and your family the best.
Just love his solo albums "After The Gold Rush" (1970) and "Harvest" (1972). Another two albums where you can just drop the needle anywhere on these records and hear a good tune. Superb!
When they were handing out songs, Neil thought they said gongs, so he said I'll take a big one and he also said when I get big I'm going to get an electric guitar - when I get real big.
Going to see him again this Saturday. First time I will see him with Crazy Horse plus Micah Nelson (Willie Nelson’s son). Watch his FarmAid performances. All the way back to 1985.
I can CLEARLY recall hearing this one for the first time and many times after while riding the school bus, but I don't recall if I was in 6th grade or 7th jr. high school. I was 12 or 13 and I had no idea who Neil Young was yet. I learned a LOT of new hit songs riding that bus. They all were fitted with AM radios and we heard top hits every day to and from school. THAT'S the kind of world it was then, only a few years past Woodstock and when some of the best stuff was being created. Schools were big on promoting music classes. There were 3 competing local AM rock stations (KLIV, KFRC, KYA.). I still have some of their stickers from way back then. One of the most popular DJ's was named "Dr Donald D. Rose" (his real name I think). He had the coolest voice for a radio jock and was on for many years, even broadcasting from his home once after breaking a leg skiing. Search youtube for "Dr Don Rose KFRC Radio Promo San Francisco 1988" and meet the man. Rock on all.
Yep. WNOR & WGH were the local AM stations. If the kid in the car next to you was singing along to the song on the radio, you were either listening to the same song, or you could change stations and watch them lip-synching. : )
That just kind of made my allergies act up, even though I've seen this several times and I've seen him do it live in concert a few years after this. I have always felt a special connection with Neil young. I also really like his stuff with crazy horse. I don't think you've done Powderfinger yet? If not, would strongly advise the studio track, but it is a fascinating song. And it was also a hit.
So you really like Neil Young , just wait until you check out Hey Hey My My , but if you listen to that , then you have to listen to My My Hey Hey . They are different , but they go together . You'll understand after you hear them both .
My friend and I were having a debate about the our favorite bands. We had just seen a concert and he was insisting that the band was in his Top 10. I know his tastes, so i knew that they couldn't be. Anyway we decided to list our our Top 10 musical acts. The rules were: You can name an individual or a band. If you chose an individual, you get any band they were in and any solo work they had done. If you chose a band, you obviously get that band's catalog, and the band members' solo careers, but not any other bands that the members were a part of. My Top 10 (in no particular order) 1. Bob Dylan 2. Jerry Garcia 3. Neil Young 4. Lou Reed 5. the Beatles 6. Pete Townshend 7. Mark Knopfler 8. Pink Floyd 9. Earl Scruggs 10. Jerry Harrison I'd be interested in seeing others' Top 10, using the same rules. It's not as easy as you would think to narrow it down to just 10
According to the book "Ghosts on the Road" Neil Young in Concert. This concert was recorded in Shepards Bush, London England at the BBC Television Theatre on February, 27th 1971. This concert was originally broadcast by the BBC on April, 26th 1971.
I'm so old, I can remember when this was first broadcast on the BBC (I'm a Brit). And, as a harmonica player myself, I can confirm that having to carry around so many of them in your pockets is a bloody nuisance.
All my life I thought he said " I've been in my mind it's such a fine wine" . Neil looks so young here. You research and you probably know this but he got involved with Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and they did some tunes together I think they really connected.
You're on a journey. Recognize each day. And go forward. Try not to pay much attention to the past. You know, we all have different lives throughout our life. Whatever is going on now, take note of the good from the bad.. That's how you begin to learn. And try to move forward. Also, think about the things that aren't going right. For most of us, those tough, tough times pass. In some way or another. But, there's always the other side. No matter what it looks like, you will realize you went through it. And sometimes, the other side is difficult. But, you soldier on. And realize there are always better days ahead. From someone who has lived through through it. And has a Daughter your age. These are those years you really start to think about your life. Godspeed.
You've been given a great gift a second life. I'm in recovery as well and that old me is "dead" when I look back at him and that's a good thing. Of course you weren't all bad none of us are yet growth means letting go of bad practices and behaviors that harmed not helped us and that's a pruning of the person we're growing into. Last I'll let you in on a secret. No one knows all the time what they're doing and if they tell you otherwise they are lying to themselves and you. You're a work in progress Brother, me and you learning as we go. Progress not perfection. The next right thing. No graduation. Learning balance and letting go of our need for extremes will be something we will need to work on all the days of our lives...but guess what? It's only one day at a time we need to handle...just for today. God bless you Bro. You're Awesome. Love this channel and you being you. ❤
Although you probably didn't know it, today you've featured two great Canadian performers from Winnipeg: Neil Young and The Guess Who. The Guess Who were all natives of Winnipeg, while Young was originally from Ontario, but moved to Winnipeg with his mom after his parents split up. Both artists came up through Winnipeg's community club scene, which was basically a network of underage venues for the numerous rock bands that sprang up in the city during the 1960s. Young idolized Randy Bachman as a guitar player, and he used to borrow equipment from The Guess Who's bassist Jim Kale.
YOU ROCK, LEE!!! :) Hope you're having a GREAT DAY, TOO!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to YOUR DAUGHTER!! I know you get tired - but, there ARE the BEST DAYS - when you get old, like me, you'll look back on them SO FONDLY!!! There's NOTHING like the love of a son or daughter!! ...and, SOME of your "wondering" will become more clear with more age....wisdom TAKES TIME. Told MY mother: I guess, by the time I get OLD enough to BE wise, I'll probably be too old to ENJOY being WISE! :D :D :D :D No one wrote a book on the directions to life - everyone's is different...and, YOU are DOIN' IT!! :) YOU 'RE DOIN' IT!! PROUD OF YOU! I was much in the same position as you've expressed. ENJOY the MUSIC and ENJOY the RIDE, MAN!! THANKS for the REACTIONS and all your work on them! I TRULY enjoy watching them and listening to the GREAT MUSIC: WITH YOU!!! :) HUGS!
The Rust Never Sleeps concert film is in my top 5 of the genre. Cleverly staged, he opens with Sugar Mountain I guess you’ve heard The Needle and the Damage Done….yes?
Even those of us who haven’t been through the things you have, often don’t know how to be themselves. My now ex husband murdered my mother & things are divided into before and after in my life. I don’t recognize myself or anything about my life now compared to before. So you’re not alone, even if our struggles are not the same.😊
