Well, John did sing some softer songs. The only one I dislike is " centerfield" want to laugh? John was sued for Libel. Sounded to much like John Fogerty. He won that one😂😂. And back in earlier day their music was owned by a recording contract company. He just this past year finally got rights to his music. So happy for him
@L33Reacts Your next from Woodstock has got to be Ten Years After - I'm going home, an iconic performance from one of the most underrated guitarists ever Alvin Lee
CCR were the soundtrack of the 60’s. That you have never heard of them is fantastic because you have opened up rabbit hole of great music. They influenced every southern rock that came after them, even though they were out of California, which always blew peoples minds.
CCR is amazing any-genre classic songs like Who'll Stop The Rain, and they're acid rock like this, and John is incredible of course: singing, writing, and his still underrated guitar playing!
CCR and the Doors were the two biggest groups out of the good 'ol USA back then, and maybe ever. CCR still holds a record for the most #2 songs on the charts. But no # 1's.
Because of the lyrics in a lot of their songs they resonated with the grunts in Vietnam. They became iconic with the the soldiers but not the officers who considered them a bad influence
John's brother and Doug made the most incredible combination. They did so much through all that. Just listen to it once and only focus on the bass guitar line. And do the same for the drums. But yeah man I am so glad that you are reminding me of these and actually bringing some musical Acumen to it, having like really observant reactions. I think it's great.
What a treat for you Lee. Love CCR. My youth. I love the a swampy stuff like this the best with Johns voice and yes thats him on guitar. They are from northern California. Not the south as thought. What a talent. John still touring in his 70s. More local stuff.
SUZY Q, RAMBLE TAMBLE, HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE, GRAVEYARD TRAIN, I PUT A SPELL ON YOU, ARE A FEW. BUT SERIOUSLY, THERE ARE NO BAD SONGS FROM THIS ICONIC BAND. GREAT THAT YOU GOT TO HEAR THIS SONG, ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVOURITES. GREAT REACTIONS 👏 ROCK ON MAN 👊🖖
When most people think of CCR they think of all the hits from the radio, but early on they were a bit of a jam band, especially their first two albums. Susie Q, I Put A Spell On You, Ninety Nine And A Half, Walk On The Water, Working Man, Penthouse Pauper, Good Golly Miss Molly, this song... All great jamming songs. Another really GREAT one by them that never gets played is 'Effigy', one of my absolute favorites Such a cool feel to it.
Heard this countless times since it was released, bought the LP and the CD, but NEVER saw them playing it live before. Big kudos with the thumbs up today, bro. Rock on.
Hey I was there at Woodstock '69! Unfortunately I don't remember CCR. Hey you had to sleep at some point between Friday evening and Monday morning! So glad it was filmed and recorded. Yeah that was a classic 60's jam if I ever heard one! Funny you weren't so sure about the Who. I do remember seeing them and feeling like they were a pretty big let down. Or dare I say (as a white boy myself) they sounded mighty white having just heard Sly and the Family Stone! A mighty tough act to follow!!! Now there's a band I'd highly recommend checking out! They were the highlight of the whole Festival IMHO!! Try "Wanna Take You Higher"!! I'll never forget the feeling of standing in the middle of a half a million people all chanting HIGHER! HIGHER!! HIGHER!!!!
CCR just make you want to move. They do swamp rock like no other and worth checking out more from them. I don’t know who Joel is, but he is borrowing my playlists 😄, excellent choices.
@@yankeeboyno7 Thanks, Joel! I’m picky about music and you have got the best ! Nice of that young man, Lee, to listen and give you some say. As someone who put a transistor radio under my pillow back in the 60’s & 70’s, I appreciate the music of my times.
They played at some crazy time like 4am with few in the crowd awake IIRC. John tells of one fan yelling out support, like Love you, John! Search the story, he tells it often.
Never saw this before. I wasn't even aware CCR played Woodstock. Plenty more of their solid songs to be found. I'm sure the comments will be full of recommendations!
Hey Lee, Ned from Spain stopping by to say hey and oh boy you're gonna LOVE almost everything by these swamp rockin giants. They were from California but loved that Southern fried groove. They started as the Golliwogs ( not their choice ) but quickly changed to Creedence etc. They racked up a tremendous amount of hits from the late 60s through to the early 70s. I'm sure when play some more by them like " Bad Moon Rising", "Green River","Proud Mary", " Up Around the Bend", " Fortunate Son" " Run Through the Jungle" you're gonna recognize them. They were also on every biker bar jukebox back in the day, probably still are !!
The Joshua Light Show was a familiar backdrop for so many shows in the late 1960s. From Rolling Stone: “The idea became this: Place a screen behind a band and project, from the rear, slides, film loops and oil mixed with water. The trippy visual experience became forever entwined with the psychedelic rock bands of the day.”
You have to go down this rabbit hole. So many great songs and John Fogerty is one of the best songwriters and vocalists from this rich era. Not shabby at all on the guitar, either. They were the kings of bayou swamp music even though they were from Cali. Green River and Born on the Bayou are great places to start for the swamp. Since John was such a prolific writer, they didn't need to do covers, but they transformed the songs on the few covers they did. Try I Heard It Though the Grapevine, I Put a Spell on You and Suzie Q. They jam on all three, the covers were songs they loved and felt they could really let loose as a band and they are all long songs..
CCR was unique as a great jam band that could also produce Top 40 hits. Check their cover of Heard It Through The Grapevine for another awesome jam. John Fogerty was a top guitarist who is left out of the Best lists too often. Great jam. ✌️❤️🎶
CCR covered a lot of territory, from psychedelic rock to folk to blues to r & b to rockabilly to country. Like a lot of other bands from the 60's, they really didn't stick to playing just one genre.
CCR was known for their 'swamp rock' sound. They had a huge number of big hits. All their songs are good. Many of their lesser-known songs are as good or better than their hits. They sound like they are from the South with that southern blues-rock style, but they are from El Cerrito, Ca.
CCR played a mix of rock, blues and country but mostly rock. Within a 2 year stretch 1969/1970 they produced 5 albums and sold more records than the Beatles. Unfortunately, it all went pear shaped shortly afterwards. John Fogerty was a generational talent but also a control freak and, eventually, in band tension, especially with his brother Tom Fogerty, caused friction and ultimately the band imploded. They produced an album called Mardi Gras which has been described as the worst record by a major band in the history of music. I had four of those early albums… Bayou Country, Green River, Willy & the Poor boys and Cosmo’s Factory. All four albums are superb. Try Effigy from Willy & the Poor Boys.
Check out Suzie Q (the long version) next. Other great songs are Fortunate Son, Long As I Can See The Light, Have You Ever Seen The Rain?, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Bad Moon Risin', Proud Mary, Born On the Bayou, Who'll Stop The Rain? and I Put A Spell On You.
John is a LEGEND, was once sued by the record label for plagiarizing HIMSELF! He won the case but can you imagine being sued for sounding too much like yourself?
I heard a story, I think from their main roadie's book that when Led Zeppelin and Creedence were on tour at the same time that John Bonham and Doug Clifford set up their drums in a hotel room and went at it laying down grooves and exchanging ideas for, like, hours. Did you dig Clifford's traditional grip snare whacks or what ???
