I was raised in Montreal, same city that produced Gino Vanelli (as well as William Shatner, Corey Hart and the great Leonard Cohen). In the 1970s, Vanelli had even better and bigger hits. My sister and most women in Canada had huge crushes on the guy. In fact, during the early 2000s, I worked in L.A. with a Guatemalan woman who instantly recognized Vanelli's voice on my MP3 player at work; She and her girlfriends in Guatemala all were in love with Gino, in the 70s. That's how well known he was. Since the 90s, Gino has been a successful opera singer, gaining critical praise all around.
I saw that tour and it was a great show but he'd get a better feel for Craney's work listening to the studio version. Live is good for show, studio is good for hearing. Bet he never saw girls rush a stage like they did on the "One Night With You" live video.
Love me some Gino. Have all his albums since the first. He was sounding like this before Bowie evolved to it. Gino's brother does keyboards and arrangements. Earlier albums are even BETTER.
A unique artist for sure... Gino came on the scene like someone who by sheer will forced themselves into the music scene of the 70s. Highly recommend Living inside myself. As always thanks for the great reactions and willingness to try so many different genres and decades
Gino is the man, I still listen to his early work! This is not a bad tune by him. I like his more creative work like 'Fly into this Night" and 'Where am I going?' among others mentioned in the comments.
I know what you mean by "Vegas show" Perhaps this is why because what was said of Gino years ago in a review ..... quote "Gino also turned out to be an equally great virtuoso as a composer, arranger and recording engineer" ....unquote
Evidently he didn’t “play ball” with the US music establishment thereby receiving the half-star, probably even before it came out and prejudicing the DJs. They make me sick! Gino is awesome.
When I was just out of high school, he sang to me while holding my hand. Asked me out for after the show. I was an idiotic virgin and said no. But Storm at Sunup was amazing!
@@nancymjohnson I mean...the world's greatest male vocalist alive (in my opinion) held your hand and sang to you, one on one? Regardless of his intentions (wink), that has got to be one very special memory. Thanks for sharing!
Nightwalker was the album that first introduced me to Gino as a kid. Next was "Live in Montreal", which really got me hooked and made me hunt down ALL of his albums from '73 until today :) I know Nightwalker is not his best work, but I love the line-up and the overall sound. It's a good song and album to start with, in my book. :)
This is where Daryl Strummer - Genesis’ live guitar player - got his start. Gino’s bro was the songwriter Edit: Stuermer. Spell check made him a member of the Clash.
Need to jump in the rabbit hole with Vannelli real fusion the kind of music you like may i suggest Living Inside Myself which was a big hit on the same album the great Vinnie Colaiuta on drums Gino is a great vocalist also Gino Vannelli started as a jazz drummer his hero was Gene Krupa their first album Geno played all drum parts and sang and his brother Joe played all the keyboard parts !
I would love for you to react to Blues Image. NOT their commercial hit "Ride Capt. Ride" - they weren't a commercial band but thanks to their record label they never got the chance to be promoted for their true talent which was Latin Rock, Blues, Progressive Rock, Jazz and Hard Rock. They were every bit as good as Santana - I assure you it will NOT get blocked. Here's the tune you need to check out - "CLEAN LOVE" - a fantastic blues tune by them - here's the link - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y_YfjLbjMMk.html Members of the band are Mike Pinera - Guitar, Vocals; Joe Lala - Congas & Percussion & vocals; Skip Konte - Keyboards; Manny Bertematti - drums and Malcolm Jones on Bass.
Been a fan of Gino many years. THIS WAS ONE OF WORST ALBUMS. His best stuff was early works Gist of the Gemini, Storm at Sunup etc, (70's) Where am I Going a favorite cut, but many more BTW " Gino also turned out to be an equally great virtuoso/ conductor as a composer, arranger and recording engineer"
