On sheet music, this song is mind-blowing and to play it is like running the most difficult of marathons. The way she makes it look so easy is damn near criminal. And then to sing on top of that? She's in a league by herself. No one else like her.

As I've said to others before, Tori Amos does not "perform"... she gets up on stage, and slashes open her veins and bleeds for the audience, she is absolutely real for you. That's almost unheard of. The fact that she's a musical genius, who was kicked out of Juliard at age 11 for being too unorthodox is just icing on the emotional cake. She is impossibly good at what she does. Great reaction as always! Rock on, Lee!

She was a child prodigy, accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of Music at age 10. I saw her in concert in '96, on the tour of her third album, Boys For Pele. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. She has an organic relationship with her instrument, as if the piano is an extension of her own body. I strongly recommend her first three albums: Little Earthquakes, Under The Pink, & Boys For Pele.

I was thinking the same. Why would someone request this song, and request one version of it without a drummer, when this channel is a drummer reacting? I LOVE this version. But I also love every single other version of this, and my most favorite is off of the live album with Chamberlain. So, I don't really understand the request. (The bassist and guitarist are spot-on with that version as well.)

Not many people follow this talented lady. I first discovered her in the late 1980s when she played "CORNFLAKE GIRL" on late night TV with David Letterman and blew me away. VERY unique artist. She actually had to leave the Juilliard School of Music because her style was so unique and different from what they were trying to teach her that they figured she'd never amount to anything. I guess she showed them. To see Tori at her best with some of her fan favorites, search you-tube for the video mini-concert titled: " Tori Amos Live - Oxygen Custom Concert 2003 - 1080 60FPS Upscale " The Oxygen network is a channel intended for women and it was basically an all-female audience, so to show them how much woman she was Tori really exposed her feminine side, put on some lovely eye makeup, turned on the sexy charm and stole my heart. Quite different from her other performances. It's my favorite concert of hers on video that I have by far, and I have several.

She started working with a band (good in demand session drummer Matt Chamberlain) later. You would probably enjoy the 98 sessions performances with band. It includes 'Precious Things', and you should also check out 'The Waitress', and 'IEEE' from that show. From the same solo piano 91 performance you just did -- 'Winter' is a favorite for reactors, and I think her cover of Led Zeps 'Thank You' is great. There are many other terrific performances on you tube as she was always amazing live. She had an important performance of Tom Waits 'Time' shortly after 911 happened -- definitely worth checking that one also.

Tori is one of the most prolific musician singer/songwriters still going today. Definitely in my top 10 femal artists. So many good albums over the years. I can list 5 or 6 I listen to regularly which isn't even touching the full catalog. Scarlet's Walk is my favorite. I recommend "A Sorta Fairytale" or "Pancake" off that one. The eighties and through the nineties birthed some great music in the alternative and folk rock genres.

Watching your face while you watched her was so delicious. This song was from her first album, no less. I hope you've listened to so much more by now. She's got 18 studio albums, and if you listen to her albums in order, you'll never be disappointed. This particular song wasn't just her personal experiences, it's more like a conglomerate of experiences of many people. She was a piano prodigy, went to the Peabody conservatory at 6 years old, and was asked to leave at 12 because she kept butting heads with her professors, and she struggled to get the hang of reading music, it's always been counter intuitive to how she composes and plays.

Hi and thanks for this and it is great to see you taking in female artists, given just how male dominated Rock music can be. I like Tori a lot. Living in the UK as I do I know that she gets quite a bit of criticism from people seeing her as a copy of Kate Bush (a criticism I think is unfair). And I think that Tori has handled those comparisons and criticisms with great grace and has never hidden her admiration for Kate Bush even when correctly asserting her own independence and musical journey. So it is good to hear you including Tori - she is well worth listening to. Having said all of that the Kate Bush discography really is just extraordinary. Tori once said of her that by her music and sheer creativity, Kate manages to create a new musical language. As an example of that I think you would get a kick out of her 1989 song 'Rocket's Tail' featuring David Gilmour on guitar. Writing a retrospective review of the album it come from, 20 years after its release, one music journalist said the song still sounded 'like a miracle.' Thanks again

"Rocket's Tail' featuring David Gilmour on guitar" -- I did not know this! I love that song and it has always reminded me of Pink Floyd! As for the Tori/Kate comparisons, I've always heard them from people meaning to compliment Tori. I also just think the world wants another Kate Bush.
@tommydevlin702

@@5tran9eMCMLXXII Hi and thanks for taking the time to respond to me. David Gilmour contributed two important guitar elements to her 1989 album "The Sensual World." The other song is "Love and Anger" and they come together on that very, very well. But for me, 'Rocket's Tail' really catches something spectacular and should be filed under the heading 'Songs only Kate Bush would do.' How do you explain what it would be like to be one of the fireworks in a firework display? She somehow brings that experience to life in this song and if it weren't for 'This Woman's Work' would have been a great finale to the album. One other very significant contribution from David Gilmour in Kate Bush's music that really stands out for me, is that he gives backing vocals on 'Pull Out The Pin' one of the greatest high peaks on her truly extraordinary, signpost, album 'The Dreaming' ( of course he is credited with "discovering" her and he is also credited as co-producer on her first album and she recorded 'The Man With The Child In His Eyes' in his own studio when she was 16 having written it when she was 13 - I know you already know her music so you probably already know most of this, these comments are really for @L33Reacts and others who are unfamiliar with her work.) In relation to Tori Amos I do have to say that I have come across a large amount of unfair criticisms of her in relation to Kate Bush, mostly here in the UK. I think a lot of that criticism is very unfair. It is fairly inevitable that many female solo recording artists will end up being compared to either Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell which is always going to be a very hard comparison to come through unscathed. To me, Joni is probably really the first and Kate is probably really the most fantastical, experimental, and inventive. To me, Every other female lives in their shadows.

We don't agree, though. The '91 performance, with the blue top, is best for a first listen. Yes, you get a better piano in the '92 performance, but I feel the first performance you get a more emotional performance, her parents are in the audience for this one, you get a more historically significant performance as it is the earliest recording of her playing this material, she's sticking to the album arrangement for the most part, with some flourishes for the live performance. I think '92 is great to see how her performance of the song evolves after a year, but you miss a lot by skipping the first year.

It’s funny. You might think it takes electric guitars and satanic texts to make heavy metal. This is heavier, cause this is real. She had issues to confront and took on alpha male/female society in passing. Just a voice and a piano. And the one line to put all of us males in our place, of course. Although, the full band version is… impressive. Any version. I love the pure anger you can hear. Not just at others, at herself too. And yet it’s so under control. There was even a male voice choir on the studio version, very dark.
