Once again Dave stole my soul for a few minutes and then handed it back with a fresh tank of gas. Thank you sir. And thank you to our patron FD for this outlandishly good pick. Thank you for letting me experience this.

I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show Syracuse Carrier Dome in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all. When the “Disco Ball’ was uncovered and the lights hit it….. WHAT IS HAPPENING was what I said….The entire crowd was held in a trace and our minds totally blown by what we witnessed. I sparked up my pipe for this reaction, as I do to all Pink Floyd songs. Thanks

Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a David Gilmour show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible. The Red Fender Stratocaster he used for this concert in the Guitar Collector World is ....PRICELESS

I'm so glad you picked up Rick Wright's ability to brew atmosphere and create engaging soundscapes, he really did put the foundations in place for nearly all Pink Floyd songs. The Division Bell tour (Pulse) was a magical experience, one of my favourite gigs along with Peter Gabriel's Growing Up tour that was also spectacular.

Watch "Echoes" from Gilmour's "Live in Gdansk" concert. It was Rick Wright's last public performance before he passed away. I bawl like an infant every time I hear it. It was also the last time Gilmour would play "Echoes", 'cause he said he just can't conceive of performing the song without Wright.
@simply_psi
@simply_psi 8 месяцев назад
@mrz80 there is something magical and other worldly about the performance live from Gdansk, I think deep down they both knew this was the last time they would perform this, 2 best friends sharing a very personal moment with all us fans, the looks they kept sharing during the performance was so emotional. Made even more special by that fact the Dave Gilmour could not bring himself to perform Echoes ever again. And for me it was not just the telepathic harmonies, it was also the incredible atmospheric tapestry Rick was weaving with his music.

In the words of George Harrison,Beatles lead guitar, who once said that taking LSD had transformed him. Psychedelics does open up doors to perception. Peyote opened Jim Morrison perception enough to name his band the Doors,doors to perception. Dude you are right on and that's coming from a 71 yo aging hippie :) One of my best memories,to an extent, going to see Pink Floyd and the audience were all tripped out as well as the band. They asked the audience if it was ok for then to keep playing. The audience went wiled. A show that was to end around 11 finished after two. Magical... This was long before all the lights and massive production that became Pink Floyd 's trademark.

Back in the day nobody put on a Show like Floyd, they always went all out at every show, they never phoned in a performance, or left anyone wanting more! "Learning To Fly" at the 94 Pulse Concert has a light show extraordinaire in the songs mid-section, as Pink Floyd is known to do, they recreate a landing field atmosphere with lasers and lighting coming from everywhere in the venue. "High Hopes" is another phenomenal performance at Pulse, it's an opportunity to see and hear, Gilmour playing a Classical Guitar during the song and an incredible solo on a Lap Steel Guitar to end the song.

Of course, I bought a ticket (as a big fan of this band), but the day before the concert I got a severe strep throat and fever. Since the weather forecast called for heavy rain and cold for that day (which came true), it was out of the question for me to go. To this day it is one of the saddest days of my life :-(. Every song on that tour was an event..... and typically with Pink Floyd... they were there on the stage, tiny people in that huge space, but a sound that is unparalleled and visuals that no-one else could match... But when you were there you were there for the whole sensory experience, No screens, no phones, Just an audience experiencing the band and their music as a whole thing.... luckily I was there on that tour and it is still with me... only I now get to see the details and rember it all.... with you... Lee it was an amazing experience to be there - one of the three greatest concerts of my life and two of them were by Pink Floyd, this one and the Wall. ( the third was Talking Heads and can be still experienced in part through the movie ‘Stop making sense’) With Floyd it was not just the music and the visuals but the feel of it. The guitar on sorrow literally vibrated every molecule in your body and you physically felt every note. Thankfully the progressive music of the 70s was enough to give me the highs that probably prevented me from doing anything more than the odd smoke of whacky baccy and a liberal amount of alcohol. Best wishes to you and your Grandad. You have the right attitude now in living and optimising every moment because believe me when I confirm that there comes a point in life where time just keeps taking things away and its good to look back on all the positive experiences that you were able to store up along the way.

This whole show was so mind-blowing. I knew it would be awesome but I had no idea HOW awesome. Small tidbit: When you see the laser beams flicking back and forth quickly take note that this is not what we saw at the concert. When the beams fan out they did so looking like a solid wedge of light to us with no flickering or sign of motion other than spreading out in width, not as narrow beams moving left and right very fast like that. It's the camera frame rate out of sync with the laser's motion that makes them flicker on video. A rather low shutter speed would have been required to capture what the human eye saw.

I seen probably 15 reactions to this and you are the only person to mention the production. Love your perspective. Every time I hear these guys think they are the best. Then I hear the Beatles and they grab the best spot in my head. It may be a tossup. 12,000 and growing.

I was about your age when I first saw P.F. on acid about 1973 and how you described the change it made for you. I'm still listening to them... however the change.for me remains without the chemical assistance. I agree with all you described. It allowed me to make the singular most important life decision...to go through life happy or sad. Everything's going to depend on which of those 2 directions you choose. I choose happy and I still see the "one" of us and it makes me smile. Have a good life my friend.

From what I remember they had 3 of those massive stages built for this tour. A huge convoy of big rigs were on the road at any one time, transporting the stage itself from one venue to the next, & setting up all of those lights & lasers in preparation of the next stadium they would be playing.. I saw them twice in Oakland on this tour. RU-vid has several videos available showing the behind the scenes stuff. I know they leapfrogged around America with all of their equipment. Supposedly the entire stage was constructed to match the old Hollywood Bowl setting where they had played back in the 1960s. And aren't those backup singers spectacular.. .
