@@johnnyringo1949 I love "Run Like Hell" P.U.L.S.E. version, but the 2016 Live at Pompeii version is my favourite. At the end, Gilmour looks up and appears to be wondering if they just blew up an ancient, historical amphitheater. LOL
This concert was soo good, had to see it twice in 2 different states!! It to this day is #1 and I'm now an old lady who's seen most of the greats! And Pink Floyd is the GOAT!!
Pink Floyd are the Undisputed Gods of Live performance. There is no act today that can equal the effect of a Pink Floyd concert. Their show is designed to blend the visual with the musical. Everything designed to hook into the souls of the audience and pull their emotions to the surface. Every single song in this concert is performed to this level. Ill recommend Keep Talking and High Hopes next
When they performed in Denver for the Pulse tour in 1994, the laser show was so intense at Mile High Stadium that commercial air traffic was diverted away from the area. It's the only time in the city's history that has happened. There were giant inflatables. A massive disco ball. And a WWII fighter buzzed the crowd before exploding. 😳🤯
It was part of the show! It was probably only half scale in reality, but it flew from one side of the stadium (on wires or something) to the other, trailing sparks and exploded in pyrotechnics on the opposite side. It wasn't just lasers. The entire show just pummeled you in 3D. Everyone left that show in kind of a daze. It was a truly overwhelming experience.
The number of musicians on stage is prosaic: in the studio, each musician is able to record many individual parts and then mix them together. But in a concert, this is simply not possible. That's why Pink Floyd has two guitarists, two drummers, two or three keyboardists, etc.
It takes a lot of added personnel to reproduce the sonic experience Pink Floyd creates on their albums, and they spare no expense in doing so. Speaking of wall of sound, that sound is coming at you from a speaker setup 360° around the stadium. A couple of hundred thousand watts of power going *through* you no matter where you are. I was at the ‘94 Pulse concert at Soldier Field in Chicago. I was also at the ‘88 indoor concert here when they introduced this song and I had much better seats. I assure you all that smoke is not natural. There are smoke machines all around the perimeter of the stage constantly billowing out tons of smoke. The effect created on the first floor sitting right underneath those lasers was extraordinary. You look up and you cannot see the ceiling, only bright fluorescent green clouds floating just above you through shards of blinding light beams. It was an amazing otherworldly experience. 🤯
I appreciate your reaction for sure. And I think that if you take the time to dive into the Floyd's rabbit hole and listen to almost 60 years of great music, you too will eventually realize that they are the greatest band... My favorite tune from this concert is "Run Like Hell"
Also, just on a side note, I watched the video for Pink Floyd's "Delicate sound of Thunder" concert, the "New 4k Edition" from HDPinkFloyd, and was quite pleased with their rendition of their masterpiece "Dogs of War", which starts at about 00:31:36 in. You may be interested in checking it out.
Two drummers, two keyboardists, bass guitarist, rhythm guitarist, three backup vocalists, and David Gilmour on lead vocals and lead guitar. Everyone meshed together so well on this tour.
The whole concert was truly groundbreaking. From the logistics (leapfrogging cities with three identical setups) to the computer programmed lights, to the projected video, to the sound quality (quadraphonic) and volume (well over 250000 watts in power), to the amazing stage design and size, to the inflatable characters, flying beds, pyrotechnics, giant glitter ball, the blimp flying overhead in open air venues. Nothing like it then (back in 1994) and, to be honest, nothing like it since (and I have seen a lot of concerts).
Interesting and thoughtful reaction, guys. Thank you! Would also recommend, from the same concert, ‘Coming Back to Life’ (very much a change of tempo from ‘Sorrow’) and ‘Take It Back’ - both different from ‘Sorrow’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’ but great songs IMHO.
Saw this 5 times indoors and out. It wasn't a concert it was an experience as many when leaving people were so quite of what they just saw. Final song "run Like hell" needs some attention. Gilmour at Pompeii version " Sorrow"in 2016 without the BIG production. Dave plays his " black strat" which he play with there in 1972. that sold for $3.0 million without his Jimi Hendrix guitar strap that Jimi wore July ,4 1979 playing the National Anthem.
Yeah Run Like Hell is on the list. I was planning on doing Echoes at Pompeii before getting back to more Pink Floyd, but it's a 24 minute video and I have to find time to sit down and react to it. Unless there's a different Echoes to react to from Pompeii
@@AceofBadeReacts Echoes at "Gdansk" is the best. Last time Dave said he would play it do to Ricks death. Dave said and if you watch it you will see how Dave and Rick talk to each other thru their instruments ********** . Dave also said that it's his favorite song to play as Rick and him so good at playing off each other. 'listen "Barn Jams" with just Dave, Rick, Guy and Steve on drums
They are beyond the greatest band of all time, they are the greatest experience. Watch Echoes live at Pompeii 1970. No lights, no effects, 4 master class musicians doing their thing.
Just for your info they are probably one of the greatest bands in the world their 1973 album Dark side of the moon is considered by many critics to be the best rock album ever, it is the 4th biggest selling album of all time 50 million copies and nobody has come close to this next milestone stayed in the billboard top 200 from 1973 to 1989. their second biggest album the wall sold over 40 million copies. They have sold more than 250 million records worldwide.
Oh I wasn't saying they aren't great. They are. I'm not ignoring their achievements that they have received. I was just not putting them at the number 1 spot for greatest band of all time is all.
The concert was in 3 parts.... First part, back up singers in white, a selection of loved songs. 2nd part......the ladies have left the stage and return in BLACK for a complete rendition of The Dark Side of The Moon, per formed in exact album order. Thirdly.. . 3 encore songs to say goodnight.
I didn't realize how late Comfortably Numb was, but now that I think about it, the end of that song does seem like it was close to the end of the concert
"Keep Talking" is my favourite today from Pulse - tomorrow "High "Hopes", or day after, "Run Like Hell" , or day after that......rinse and repeat. No real favourite really, just appreciaion for the concert of a lifetime.
The giant gong is for the song "High Hopes", it is the concert openiner and also happens to be my favourite piece by Pink Floyd. You shoould react to that, it is anazing.
Pink Floyd may not be the best band of all time?! Bite your tongue! 😆💜 One Of These Days from this concert is another banger. Also The Dogs of War from their Delicate Sound of Thunder concert is pretty great.
I’ll say this about PF live and studio. Seen them 2x in my life. 87 and 94. Both concerts ruined any other live performances I’ve ever seen. Yes they are top 3 in the world to do it.
From the sixties Pink Floyd have always been about the lights as well as the sound.... Did you notice, no screens to show highlights or audience on... I was at theis concert and a previous one in 1988.... Because these are arenas the guys on the stage can just be seen... so it isn;t about THEM... for them it is about the music they produce and the lights tat are an integral part of their live shows. When you went to a Pink Floyd concert you went for a sensory experience.... Still remember being there and there is no-one that comes close.... Possbily Peter Gabriel... but that's the only one.. And as for them being one of the best bands... I think that's a moot point.... Pink Floyd are in a complete genre of their own.... Thanks for the reaction.... As For Next Ones To React To.... How About: "Keep Talking" or "High Hopes" from the same concert. Keep on Rocking....
OK...Floyd uses additional performers to keep true to the studio recordings (with the overdubs) with using background recordings. Guitars....Tim Renwick backs and supports David Gilmour Keys....Jon Carin fills with Richard Wright Drums....Gary Wallis provides added percussion to Nick Mason's drumming Bass....Guy Pratt (doesn't need any help) Vocalists....Sam Brown, Durga McBroom, and Claudia Fontaine (RIP)
In this video, Guy Pratt, the bass player, is talking about his bass line on Sorrow, and his work with Madonna. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yluPCLc1ltg.html
The guy on the left said pink Floyd is not the greatest band of all time???? Are you efing kidding me?????. You don't know what you are talking about.👇👇👇👇👇
Not sure if you've done Money and Great Gig from this concert. Dogs, from Animals is apropo for todays world. So many and yes, Echoes from Pompeii shows how talented they were in their twenties. Can't beat their lyrics.
I have not checked those out yet. I do want to check out Echoes, but I have to find time to sit through a 20+ minute video. I almost did it tonight actually, but I wasn't able to
Big floyd fan and listen to this concert all the time. Fyi, the percussionist Gary Wallis now plays live music for a German DJ called Schiller. Checkout some live gigs to see his skills at work, here is one of his recordings with Gary: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uFJyeee3wWE.htmlsi=YE-dKNb7zP5_a8sC
When they bring all the session players to make their music sound like the studio or better, compared for example to LedZep who never brought the background music team
Yeah from what I have seen so far, Zeppelin sounds different live compared to the studio albums. I think one of those was due to a vocal issue Robert Plant had
And that's completely valid. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. That's what makes music great. In all fairness, I don't think there is a greatest band of all time. To me that would signify they never had a miss, no one ever left the band over major issues, and no controversy
You are wrong. Comfortably numb was the second to last song in the concert (followed by Run like hell). Sorrow featured near the end of the first half of the concert if memory serves me right.
I would so have loved to know what you guys were saying to each other...yeah we can't hear a word of what you are saying. Can you please re-record this !!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No Rick Mason is the original drummer and Richard Wright, who was in and out of the band was the original keyboard player (among other things) and they were both at this performance
I was at this concert and I can say that it was an awesome night which I am privileged to have watched. Oh. By the way The Floyd are one of the greatest bands of all time.
Every night was a little different , or so i am told. The Division Bell tour concerts usually ended with 3 encore songs, but the order tended to change from night to night. The recorded concert at Earls Court, the videos we know as Pulse, used Comfortably Numb as the 2nd encore and then finnished with Run Like Hell. You should do Run Like Hell...... 180 degrees different to the gentle, soothing ambience of Comfortably Numb and short, repetitive lyrics...... but a masterpiece and Genuis finnish to the concert. Time to P'..off now, gotta go. Save myself n Run Like Hell .
With regard to strobe lighting, strobe lights do not trigger epileptic episodes unless they are flashing within a specific range of frequencies (somewhere around 8 to 15 flashes per second if I remember rightly). You can rest assured that Pink Floyd's lighting operators know not to flash a strobe light at those frequencies.
Phil Spector was the originator of the "Wall of Sound", but he never worked with Pink Floyd. Andy Jackson was the engineer for the Division Bell album, the tour, and the P.U.L.S.E. DVD.
@@kimberlyrineer6822 I stand corrected because I saw that afterwards so you were right, and I was wrong. I just haven't had the chance to go back and recorrect it, so thank you for correcting Rap for me. I should have looked and realized what I put before again thank you
ORIGINAL PINK FLOYD MEMBERS David Gilmour(lead vocals, lead guitar, effin god), Richard Wright-Keyboards/synths, Nick Mason-drums EXTENDED PF FAMILY Guy Pratt, Bass (This is where Roger Waters should be), Jon Carin-2nd Keyboards, Tim Renwick-2nd guitar, Gary Wallis-Percussion..not sure on the speling. Sam Brown is the Blonde singer, not sure of the other 2, I'm sure one of the other Floydians will fill you in
The stage and lighting production cost 25 million back in 1994. PF was always cutting edge in terms of stage performance. They always pushed back on the idea od being 'rock stars'. They are musicians--at this time at the peak of their prowess. The music and the experience of the music was always priority #1. I was lucky enough to see them a few times live--unforgettable experiences. Consider watching the entire concert including DSOTM--which was the purpose for doing the tour according to Gilmour.
I was at the Pulse concert in October 1994 and Sorrow was in the 1st set and Comfortably Numb was played at the end of the concert in set 2 as part of the encore with Run Like Hell which finished the concert off..!! So Sorrow was roughly played around the 30min mark in Set 1 and Comfortably Numb Encore was played just before the 2hr mark in the concert..!! Even 30years after being at this concert it still so vivid in my mind and still sends shivers down my spine and soul everytime I think or lwatch the DVD of the concert..The only band that's ever existed that touches your mind, body and soul to make you feel emotions and feelings that no other band can even come close to..+ Live the Greatest visually and musically band ever, to the place were your watching thinking did those visuals actually happen or am I tripping 🤔
First saw Floyd in 73 in Tampa and 3 times in Atlanta. Last the Wall in 79 I think. Regardless, the round screen was always there. Animals was over the top with ... well all the animatronic animals. Always a great show tripping. Fun fact. My friend Benny engineered Comfortably Numb. Cheers !
What's crazy about this tour was that the stage you see here was one of three that Pink Floyd had built specifically for their 1994 "The Division Bell" world tour. The 3 identical stages, leapfrogged across North America for that leg of the tour.
The reason Pink Floyd overwhelms you with sound is they completely surround the audience with speakers on both sides, behind them above them and on the stage and basically create a giant set of headphones for the audience to sit inside of! I've seen about 100 concert in my lifetime from ACDC to Led Zeppelin and everyone in between alphabetically. I've seen Pink Floyd live 4 times in 3 different decades and I've never seen a better show than Floyd puts on!!! Pink Floyd show in 1977 when Rodger Waters was still with them called the In the flesh tour they played all of Wish You Were Here all of Animals and half of Dark Side of The Moon for their encore!! During that concert I saw at least 15 people get hauled out because they were freaking out from the intensity of the concert!! I'm sure they took something to enhance their experience but if you weren't ready for it it was too much!! That was one of the few shows when I drove home with my girlfriend who became my wife we didn't say a word all the way home because we were still in shock from the show!!!!
There wasn't a bad song on the whole Division Bell tour that Pulse was taken from but other total bangers are, High Hopes, Keep Talking, Run Like Hell and One of These Days all absolutely exceptional live performances.
I was at this show at Earls court in London in 1994. The smoke was purposely vented into the arena with smoke machines so the lights would pick it up otherwise you wouldn't be able to see the beams created by the lights and Lazers as well 🇬🇧🤘
He just plays through the pain, you know. His muscles must have been burning bad. Pink floyd has always been a theatrical s.bandso happy to have seen them a few times in concert 79 in Calli
"A show for the eyes as well as the ears" Thank you for mentioning it! So many people talk about David Gimour's guitar skills but no one talk about the light show! It is a part of what amaze me in this live concert! And all the members of the band are incredibles in what they do (guitars, drums, keys, bass and the backing singers
I can’t believe you guys have not reacted to high hopes from the same concert yet sorrow is a great song, but High Hopes when David jumps on the steel guitar and plays it will surely blow you away. I’ll look through your playlist. I did not see. It really need to check that one out next I promise you you will be glad you did. It is iconic.
It is on the list, but has not been reacted to yet. I think I'm going to check out a Pompeii performance next and then I'll circle back to the Pulse concert
Imagine that. Having an opinion people disagree with. What a concept. Imagine a world where you could actually debate ideologies and philosophies and not insult people just because you don't know how. Absolutely insane.
@@AceofBadeReacts Gone fishing. Your response was immediate and somewhat melodramatic - ouch. North Korea is absolutely insane, me calling you muppets is nearly a term of endearment in the UK. There are three ways to enjoy a Pink Floyd Track -ears open/eyes closed, eyes only looking at the spectacle on a 120 foot stage, and third - do it all again
This is 1 of 14 days in a row sold out. !stage being torn down 1 they are playing at 1 be built for next show. P.K # 2 all time selling around the world with last release 1994. Saw this 5 times and people were just stunned. Should what this song Dave at Pompeii 2016 Dave playing this with no lighting. Just him on his "Black Stat" which sold for $3.9 million without Jimi Hendrix famous guitar strap XXXX which he wore on July 4,1970 playing the National Anthem. Which you hear a little beginning and end on this song of Jimi
Hey Guys, loving the reactions to Pink Floyd. I rank them tied for #1 all time bands for me. Tied with Supertramp. They are totally different, but very much the same. Musicianship par excellence!!! If you want to see the gong in action at the Pulse Concert, watch “High Hopes” ….you will see and hear a solo I guarantee you have never seen before. I’ll be watching for this and keep the PF coming….and than try Supertramp…Crime of the Century. Watching for Canada 😎🎶🎸🇨🇦
@@AceofBadeReacts High Hopes is Pink Floyd, and you must do the Pulse Concert version. I know it is going to plow your minds. The only songs you had probably heard from Supertramp are a couple of radio hits they had back in the 70’s. Even though they are good songs, they are not a true representation of who Supertramp is. They are, to keyboards what Pink Floyd is for guitars. Try the album Crime of the Century. Remember that it is a concept album and you should listen to it in sequence from the start. If you love superior musicianship and well crafted song writing and flawless studio recording……Supertramp will not dissapoint. Thanks for the reply. 😎🎶🎸🇨🇦
The number of musicians on stage is prosaic: in the studio, each musician is able to record many individual parts and then mix them together. But in a concert, this is simply not possible. That's why Pink Floyd has two guitarists, two drummers, two or three keyboardists, etc. When it comes to lighting and visual effects, Pink Floyd were the European pioneers of visuals and animation in concerts on stage. Syd Barrett from the beginning was figuring out how to visually support the psychedelic music they were producing. For example, they experimented with spray paint on glass with condoms and so on. Back in the early 70's they created a circle on the backdrop of the stage into which they dropped video clip cuts or just abstractions. The circle was later continually enlarged to the size you see here at the Pulse concert... Incidentally, the visuals on this tour were handled by two world-renowned production companies, and the construction and installation was so complex that it was worth creating two, so that one was at the concert and the other was already being prepared for the next concert in the next city.
@@AceofBadeReacts You were wrong, they are the best band ever, the lighting is just a bonus.. I guess you can't get past the shiny object.. try listening to Hey You, studio version
@@AceofBadeReacts I mean, I saw it a half a dozen times in 94 😉In 2016 I saw David Gilmour at MSG in New York. He played Sorrow, again at insane levels (the intro and outro specifically), and this time my left ear stopped working altogether. That freaked me out. My hearing came back after the show, but if I see live music anymore I wear ear plugs. Kind of diminishes the experience, but at least I still have my hearing. And the ringing. I can't imagine losing my hearing permanently, but keeping this ringing.
I personally don't think any band or artist holds that title. It's an impossible achievement. But to put someone in that number 1 slot is completely opinion based, and even then to be able to check off all the boxes. I don't think it has ever been achieved. But that's just my opinion and I'm allowed to have that opinion
