i see it more as giving va’s a role in a genuinely passionate project, i find that a lot of great va’s are undermined by shitty writing when its really not their fault at all but their careers take the hits for the poor writing majority of the time. thankfully gaming communities are becoming more sensible and recognizing this issue
You can see very early on as edgy as Shart is she's actually a very kind and good hearted person, the guilt is eating up at her and the only reason she's able to keep it cool is the deep indoctrination she's been under.
Honestly this scene pretty much changed my view on her as well just now and when you give her the flowers and she starts joking?? Like okay girl, I didn't know there was character inside of you and a actual person lmao
The irony is that she questions why she cares about them if you save the Teiflings and the grove. That Shar may not approve of the action of saving them.
This proves really Shadowheart isn’t really cut out to be a cleric of Shar she doesn’t have the stomach to be truly evil she may approve of some evil things here and there but when it comes to true evil no she can’t do it here she is drinking away the guilt
Well, that's what confused me when she told me she followed Shaar. Knowing nothing of the lore, I assumed Shaar was either not actually evil and just disliked by people or that Shadowheart really wasn't cut out for her job because she is only is nice towards us and other people the entire game. Except Lae'zel, but she has good reason to not like her.
She doesn't approve evil options per se, she prefers pragmatic options where you don't immediately resort to violence, like not throwing yourself out to help others or trusting someone right away. She's like Astarion in that regard.
@@MichaelDavis-mk4me That's the big "trick" they pulled out in the game, really. People familiar with the setting and Shar/Selune immediatly get the "Oh fuck, this woman really drank the kool-aid but seems nicer than the rest of the Church, I wonder what's up with that", while people that don't know it get the feeling that Shar is about what she talks about: stoicism abandoment of wordly ties and that stuff, while for some reason having a beef with a good goddess. So maybe Shar is an evil goddess but its cult can be neutral. Then they hit you hard with her actual backstory and learning that, nope, Shar cultists are fucking monsters!
I love that scene, despite never seeing it in the game; it just helps establish Shadowheart's character by showing that she is trying to drown her guilt in alcohol. It even highlights her reaction to the tiefling party and how happy she is.
If you’re playing a high moral playthrough this is something you need to watch. I’ve learned more about selunite shadowheart here than I did on my actual selunite playthrough. She is so heavily influenced by shar but is fundamentally such a good person, that we see her dissonance manifest here. She needs to get drunk because she feels horrible but doesn’t have enough of her mind intact to truly understand why. In Vino Veritas
Seeing how miserable she is really put the final nail in the coffin for my full evil Durge run (at least until certain choices in Act 2 into Act 3). The only reason I raided the grove was to get the Sazza trophy, but now I'm just going straight to Moonrise to save her, then reloading to a back up save so I can have happy Shadowheart.
That's the moment you realize a evil run in Baldur's Gate 3 is just depressing instead of being fun. Larian really did a good job with companions (except Astarion who does not care) doing everything in their power to make you feel bad, especially Shadowheart and Gale.
Astarion actually does care he just doesn't want people to know he does. While he doesn’t give you approvals for or against siding with the Grove, he does when you help individuals. Course his motivation is more "do we get a good fight or reward out of it?" But there's a couple times when he approves of you giving money to people and even hilariously taking credit for helping someone in act3. He's funny.
Because Astarion isn't "really evil" either. He is selfish and is enjoying his new found freedom after being functionally a slave for like 500 years. Him not buying into heroics doesn't mean he is Evil. Not as Minthara is, really.
Shadowheart is one of those people who don’t know how to drink at all and don’t know their limits, limits where it’s time to tell yourself “stop” before you start talking all sorts of rubbish and mooing incoherently.
None of what she said is incoherent actually. Plus, she wants to be wasted after committing a straight up war crime, not exactly surprising she isn't going to drink moderately after that.
No, that limit is the work night weekend line. Anything before that line is appropriate on work nights, and the ONLY thing acceptable in weekends is everything past that line.
I’m currently playing fallout 4, and the difference in quality in the voice acting and animations is astronomical between it and BG3. Larian really set the bar, but then again, quality really isn’t Bethesdas strong suit.
To those wondering which outfit mod this is, there's, like, 3 outfit mods. Each adds a bajillion outfits and that about covers it. Hop on nexus, and sort mods by most popular and they'll literally be in like the top 10.
@@spiwolf6998 You can look it up. She says "Well... that's nice." Then you can ask if she wants to talk about what's on her mind, but she does not want to talk, falling asleep.
I accidentally killed shadowheart instead of freeing her from the pod at the start, found her dead on the beach next to the crashed ship and took her prism thing. Never knew she was such an integral part of the story
@@andybodle7560 Shadowheart is my favorite, but her arc is way too predictable. When she tells you her faith, me and every single one of my friends immediately knew exactly how everything was going to turn out and it did.
@@MichaelDavis-mk4me predictable isn't automatically bad. If you've read any story ever you can guess immediately that karlach will have a breakdown after getting her revenge on gortash rather than feeling better. Or that astarion is a deconstruction of the "sexy vampire" trope. Damn near all the characters arcs are predictable.
@@calvintyler9281 Yes, you are right, all of them are predictable, but well written. It's the proof that you don't have to make a complicated story to be good. Games like Final Fantasy turn me off because of the dozen plot twist within the plot twist that make reference to a future past from another dimension. My only problem is that it's so predictable, yet the characters themselves don't seem to be able to connect the extremely obvious dots together, making them seem stupid. It was clear Shadowheart is way too sweet and nice to be the worshiper of Shaar, especially when you get her dream early in act 1 that makes it turbo obvious she was a Selune worshipper, us having literally read a book saying that Selune worshippers must do that ritual and she wears the literal symbol of Selune.
This might be a very dumb question but I just started my first playthrough and didn't know you could talk to companions as another companion. Everytime I've tried it just switches me to my character
Moght not be an engaging activity but it look like she was struggling to sit down without falling over. So sure, it might be boring, but when your that drunk, it can be challenging lol
@@kelleren4840 Well I play Console so we don't have mods. Was hoping these were in game because they look way better than clothes our characters start with. Or any clothes I found so far.
My options for Spellcasters are Gale, Wyll, and Shadowheart. Wyll’s heroism is enough to get him kicked. Gale is great but consuming magic items isn’t. And Shadowheart, although not the best cleric, doesn’t mind my evil actions all too much. She can stay.
@@kingcyclops4079 I got a bunch of really garbage magic items early on that i kept for Gale's hunger. It wasn't a problem after the first act. He was also my accidental romance. Shadowheart kept getting mad about everything, so she just ended up running away. Good riddance. Wyll's story is great and I ended up keeping his dad alive and breaking Wyll's contract at the same time. I didn't use him much, but I did keep him around to dress up like all the other characters I never used. Personal Note: WHY CANT I ROMANCE MINSC!!?!?! I love him sm 😭
