Dry eyes are a very common complaint when tear production is not able to provide adequate eye lubrication. A not uncommon cause of dry eyes is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction or MGD. The Meibomian glands found in the eyelid normally produce an oil that helps minimize moisture from evaporating off the eye. MGD is when inadequate oil is produced due to gland blockage. Meibomian gland expression can be performed to clear out the ducts of any blockage as well as to manually stimulate oil secretion thereby resolving dry eyes due to MGD.
Instrument used for Meibomian gland expression: amzn.to/3O9jdLN

I wake up with dry eyes after a long sleep. If I can wake up and not open my eyes I can try and rub my eyes to moisturise them. Otherwise, if i open them, it feels like I have just peeled off a contact lens worn for too long.

Oh me too so painful. I have tried doing some of the things ive seen from different videos and it has helped. I di however stop using the drops. Seems my problem worsened. This technique im going to gently try on my own.

@@peggyries637 I noticed that a big part of my eye has a lot of problems, it's the part of me being very allergic to everything, so it can be a good way, taking all measures to avoid irritation in the eyes as much as possible, such as scratching, sweeping dust, pets , unbalanced diet, etc! Hope you find a good solution

Yeah, your glands are clogged dude. You need to use a heat mask at night and every morning, and express the glands like the video says

Thank you for this video. I'm glad I didn't see the video prior to going for the treatment. It was a bit of a nightmare to receive the treatment. No one told me it would be painful. My eyes hurt the rest of the day and I wasn't great company, but I had to go to a piano teacher association meeting and take notes immediately after the treatment. Why don't these doctors tell you in advance what to anticipate? My eye doctor also did OptiLight treatments on me but failed to tell me when she was going to begin the zapping process, so it startled me. These doctors seem to have zero training in good communication with the patient.

So so sorry you had this experience..Doctors should be so well versed in communication, and we need to understand what is happening in our bodies and how it is being treated + what to anticipate before approving any treatment. Hope you’re feeling better now 💜

@@Armiyl Thank you so much, yes, I'm feeling much better now! Today I returned for my final OptiLight treatment. The doctor's assistant asked me how it went the rest of the day with my eyes from the meiobian gland expression last week. I told her, and she expressed doubt, saying, "They did hurt for the entire day?" I said yes, they did. She didn't seem to believe me. I'm sure she forgot entirely that while they told me most patients need only two passes with the gland expression, I had so much plugged-up oil in my glands that I required 4 passes. This made my eyes very sore. I know they think I'm a baby. Why do they doubt patients when we recount our own experiences? Do they think we would lie? I'm just floored. This is the 2nd or 3rd time this assistant has expressed doubt to me of things I shared with her. I guess I will just have to lie in the future to avoid the unpleasant experience. Or just ignore her question and say, "Can we please get on with the treatment? I don't have time to chat today."

So the treatment didn’t help you?
@chrysanthemumfan214
@chrysanthemumfan214 9 месяцев назад
@@Carolina_girl86 No, that isn't actually my complaint. It did help, but the treatment could have been far less stressful to tolerate had good principles of communication been followed by the treating physician. I didn't feel my experience was valued until I spoke up and said something. There also wasn't good communication during the patient education. For example, the Dr. advised me to use lubricating eye drops and a rice-filled microwaved eye mask daily to help. I assumed it was to help my eyes feel better. But my eyes didn't feel uncomfortable. My Meiobian glands are half-gone, but I haven't been feeling any pain or discomfort. So I didn't do the eye drops or mask between the 1st and 2nd treatments of the series of treatments. Then the Dr. upbraided me at the 2nd appt. because I hadn't done these things. It was then that she told me that if I don't do them, my treatment benefits would eventually disappear and the glands would worsen again. Why didn't you tell me that the first time? OK, so that may have been partly on me, because we're supposed to blindly do what our doctor orders. But I honestly thought it was probably just for my own comfort, and I haven't been having any discomfort. Doctors just need to be more proactive about patient education and about communicating during procedures. That's how I feel. I'm a piano teacher and I tell each student exactly why we hold our hands, arms, shoulders, posture at the piano, etc., the way we do. I tell them why we need the piano bench at a certain height. When people understand the "whys", compliance improves tremendously. Same thing with patient compliance, it seems to me...I might be wrong...

@@chrysanthemumfan214not all drs are like. Give her a poor review online. They probably should have used numbing also, at least you told people on here your experience. I suspect many drs gloss over how uncomfortable procedures might be because they think its more helpful. Its not.

I made my own compress. I cut a small hole in an old eye compress I had. I then emptied the contents and replaced it with regular rice till nicely packed. Sewed the entry closed. Place in microwave at 20 second intervals. Usually 40 seconds is good for me. The rice is moist and stays hot for about 10 minutes. Best part, it’s free.
