I find your videos very helpful esp to young dentists who have a solo practice. No dentist should ever practice alone. It can be very stressful. Here I would like to add a few more tips for treating Dry sockets. 1. Always take an IOPA. Make sure there are no foreign particles in the socket even if the extraction was done in your clinic. It's amazing how sometimes you do find pieces of broken tooth accidentally left behind. Dislodges calculus or even pieces of broken fillings accidentally lodged in the socket. 2. Always irrigate the socket with normal saline as you have mentioned. You can also use very diluted hydrogen peroxide. the effervescence does wonder to bacteria and loosens debris. 3. Isolate the socket with cotton rolls to encourage slight bleeding as you have mentioned. This can be done by teasing the soft tissue around the socket. 4. Open a tetracycline capsule. Use a sterile amalgam carrier. Pack the barrel with the powder and carry it to the socket and place it there. This will dissolve into the blood. You can even place as much as half a capsule of the powder. 5. Then cover it with the zinc oxide dressing. 6. If you are worried that the dressing might get dislodged. You can always place loose sutures over the socket to hold the soft tissue and the dressing. 7. Recall the patient for review after 24 hours. Analgesics should be given along with instructions to monitor the pack. 8. Pack will usually fall off on its own. You might have to remove it if you have placed sutures to hold the dressing. In my 37yrs of practice, I have found this to be very helpful.. Keep up the good job Doctor
And does tetracycline powder really work I never heard of that. I guess it's getting incorporated in the clot and aids in reducing the anaerobic bacteria
Bilkul sahi socha aapne jo hindi-english mix krke bna rahe ho... Coz motive bi yahi hona chahiye ki jyada se jyada dr.isse cover ho and in chizo ko smjh ke atleast sahi treatment de sake...I think isse more thn dentist cover honge and jisse logo ko better treatment mil sakega....

@@theREALESTrealistUNPOPULAR you got this, The Saltwater became my best friend after a while. But once they open it up and irrigate the area it will get better. In December I had dry socket twice from smoking like an idiot after being told not to. You will make it through it. Sending you healing energies and a speedy recovery🙏
@@allthingsmoonchild4684 Is there any way of catching a dry socket before it starts hurting? I'm on day 2 of wisdom removal and could not resist smoking lightly without much sucking motion. But I already had bad door and grey socket site. IS there any other clear indicator that will help me to catch this before it becomes worse?
I think the 2 main cause of dry socket are: 1 unsterilised technique in extraction 2. Inappropriate post op instructions to patient. Currently there is emphasis on socket preservation rather than compression. Just my take!
@@shrutisehrawat9372 My surgery today was traumatic and already, the tiny blood clot I had to today has already been dislodged, first day I can already see bone and stitches so I know a dry socket is bound to happen. Stop giving complicated surgeries to junior dentists, they had to give me several local anaesthetics, they cut bone I had several assistants coming in and out taking over the over. Also suction when the assistant wasn't usingg it was just left to hang over the chair and then picked up again to put in my mouth. They had to have an experienced dentist come it to take it out. The whole thing took over an hour. Very depressing and I can just see the butchered wound in my mouth. Again stop giving complicated surgeries to students at least have an experienced member present.
3 years of absolute dental pain because of an irrational fear. Finally got into the dentist and he told me if I was able to deal with the pain he knows damn well I had, apparently I must be a rhino at 155 lbs lol
Good video. First thing I did was go home and start drinking out of a straw and spit out . I wasn’t told anything only try not to smoke for 24 hours that’s it. But was drinking from a straw almost straight away and now I have dry socket. It’s even throbbing writing this. Useless dentist uk.
Same. My dentist did a terrible job extracting my teeth. It felt like torture even with anesthesia. I could feel so much pressure and pain overall. Then they gave me a sheet on what to expect after the procedure without verbally telling me what I should look out for.

I got my impacted wisdom tooth ( Right Lower part) and right upper wisdom tooth removed 5 weeks ago the upper area of right side is fine but there is still much pain lower side . Pain increases when I eat something although i havnt ate anything from the right side from the last 5 weeks . I am going to my dentist after every 5 days he suggests just to use warm saline 5 - 6 times a day and also said the pain might be due to teeth that was allighned to the lower wisdom tooth and suggested Root Canal for that but i have all the symptoms of a dry socket . Please suggest what should i do for how much time i should wait for this pain ( dry socket ) to go.

My dentist put the same thing in my dry socket and I instantly felt relief from horrible throbbing pain...today was my 2nd dressing of socket...hope It'll heal soon 🙏🏻🙏🏻 it's been 10 days since I am taking antibiotics 3 times a day 😭😭
I hate dentists !!! 😭 y can’t they just do this in the beginning? Also why don’t they see the patient in a week to see if they r developing dry socket or everything is fine? My doc had given me 3 weeks appointment post surgery... how am I supposed to trust them?
95 percent patients don't develop this. It happens when patient uses a straw, washes mouth on the day of extraction .. having come, smoke alcohol age and such things. All doctors are not like that. Don't generalize please
Patients are advised to visit the dentist in case they are having any problem any time post a procedure. No dentist will deny the patient to come if they want to.
bc there are other people in this world that have the same problems as you or worst. that’s why he’s a dentist, the world don’t revolve and stop their schedule for you…
Hi sir please reply urgently 🙏 I did an impaction 6days ago and on fifth day i removed the stitch. Today is 7th day but the patient is having severe pain..is it dry socket? And can i put Zoe mixture without the small cotton ? Please reply sir..I have called the patient today
