[DS ver.] Final Fantasy IV - Battle Theme 1 (FamiTracker, VRC7) 

The second FamiTracker cover that I ever made and uploaded to RU-vid was actually the Final Fantasy IV battle theme, back in early 2011 when I wasn't able to use any of the other modules outside of the standard 2a03 4 channels.
That was a very long time ago and in said cover, I completely butchered the final sweeping notes before the track loops again. I listened to it before I begun this new one and while it's fun to look back and see how far you've progressed (and some nostalgia you could say), it was extremely primitive compared to what I know is possible today. It was rather painful reliving those sad deflating tones before the video abruptly ends.
I am pleased to say that I don't think that I did the same this time around. While it is an octave lower than the original, I feel those final notes suit the VRC7 instruments better when they are combined together - it makes for a bit more of a crunchier sound, one that lends itself better to FM Synthesis in general in my opinion. It's always handled those lower ends far better than some rather questionable higher ends.
There are some small intricacies with the DS version of this song in comparison to the original SNES and GBA counterparts, most namely more prominent (and crisper) bass and percussion tones, as well as a very slightly more simplified main melody. Instead of making some small changes to the second loop of the main melody, it actually almost repeats itself instead so I attempted to follow through with that. One major change was that I actually brought in some of those fantastic arpeggios from an arrangement of this track that can be found in Final Fantasy Dissidia on the PSP. In the second half of that track, the piano really does bring a completely new element to the track that I absolutely adore.
I really hope that you enjoy this rendition of a classic track and it was fun to revisit something that I did many moons ago! Let me know what you think in the comments below as always.
