YOU'VE GOT BOOST POWER!
(such an iconic voice sample)
Yes, this cover that I have made here definitely does have some boost power attached. Whether that is a good thing or not remains to be seen.....
As the game itself is incredibly high octane and high speeds, I tried to utilise the 4 channels that I had at my disposal to attempt to showcase what is possible. There are many techniques that you can use to get an even fuller sounding track from those available to you - single channel echo, phasing, changing the envelope on the noise channel to get a discordant buzz. Many many more as that only just scratches the surface.
I like to switch the pulse widths of the square channels to give a feel of more "instruments" in the "band" so to speak which can help things when they tend to get a bit stale. F-Zero X on the Nintendo 64 had incredibly high-quality samples for it's time and it was most certainly competing for the processing power when running the game!
It condenses down nicely into the 4 channels of the NES and I tried to boost those lower-ends throughout to keep that metal-sounding feel where possible.
Let me know what you think in the comments below as always!
All the best.
