Good run of scholar is probably like 2:20 or so. May do a few more runs but its kind of an annoying category. Lots of improvement to make compared to my vanilla run atleast. -- Watch live at / distortion2
For anyone asking, the reason why his Rapier is hitting so damn hard is primarily because of the Counterattack rating that the rapier has. It's higher than most weapons, and a Counterattack in DS2 is any attack that lands while an enemy is doing an attack animation. This is coupled with the fact that pierce weapons are OP and the rapier is just really strong on its own.
@@Drean-mg8zj I'm also at my first playthrough atm :) I used the Battle Axe first, then Greatsword, then Blue Smelter Sword, then Fume Greatsword...now back to Blue Smelter Sword because i didn't like the moveset of the Fume GS :D Seeing this now i think i try rapier and twinblade next :D I have yet to do the Ivory DLC, Darklurker, Vendrick and the final bosses (i skipped those in the video). It's really fun, but also often really hard. Can't wait to beat it...and then continue with NG+ :)
honestly, Dist’s menu-ing is probably one of my favorite parts about his DS2 runs. 9:50-10:35 is so satisfying to watch, navigating the menus that smoothly and quickly while keeping in mind the sheer number of things he has to do is so damn impressive. shit’s noice.
Against the skeleton lords acting like a mean girls character. "What are you even doing? What the fucj Get the fuck away from me ew fuckk " in the most pretentious way 😂
The way you bend this game to your will, awe inspiring. Some of those jumps were giving me fits. The routing was impeccable. Really impressed with the way you demolished my favorite game, haha.
2:04:38 "Breadbug" 2:04:43 "Breadbugs" 2:04:49 "Bregbugs" 2:04:53 "Bregbugs 2:05:00 BRIGHTBUGS" Waheeeey! He got there in the end! ;) BTW Distortion2, not that my opinion matters, but this was one of the most impressive and entertaining speedruns I've watched, from start to end! You Sir, have got some damn talent!
@@emilydessoffy2887 i save some energy and buy the twindragon shield from maughlin since it is good for starter shield and then circle it,only attack when he's attacking,1slash will be enough and then keep circle him again while using your shield
Honestly this is the only souls I've played more than I can ever count. I have went to ng+99 and beyond on ps3, now on ps4 I'm at ng+(just now upgraded to sotfs!) And I never seem to get tired of it.
I've been watching for a while, and I come to this video a lot. After seeing your most recent uploads where you have your facecam on, you somehow sound different because I can attach your voice to the facial expressions you make. It's really interesting and I think some people say that your salty because that's the inflection you give, but in actuality your not that cheesed at all! Great video, Dist.
Distortion2 is so much better than other speed runners I really don't understand. How is he so much better and inputs that he has the record for every game he plays?
I’ve beaten this game multiple times, I had no idea that you could jump down to where those fire lizards are and there was an area down there at the beginning.........
I had given up on this game but now watching you makes it look so easy and I am going to get this game again and try to play it the way you have, brilliant.
@@szarekhthesilentking7043 yeah, well, I heard something like that 26 years ago and one month later a fully-funcional PS1 emulator was available, after all these consoles are programmed in computers, so the coding is not something new.
2000+ hours here and I usually create new builds and establish a decent world for pvp which requires me to run through most of the game and dlc. So I tend to finish my character builds and games by speedrunning, most impressive time being 4 hours, how you shaved that down to 2 is baffling to me
i never understood how people can manage inventory while moving with a controller.... i mean i finished all dark souls games but when i had to go into inventory i couldnt move because i have only 2 hands.... you guys are octopusses :D
Love watching the speed running meta change. I think the last time I watched you play Scholar it was Pate's Spear and Drakeblood Greatsword. Just curious, why don't you like running SotFS as much as vanilla 2?
Ds2 is one of my favorite games ever. I’d get drunk as hell and wake up halfway through the game with some new Zeus roleplay run through and it’d be epic
Zeus roleplay run? You using lighting spears? I never really liked doing those kind of runs since I feel really nervous when those lightning spears have barely any uses and don't one-shot everything/do massive damage.
Hello! I know this video is a couple years old now, but I was wondering if there was a powerpoint or PDF guide somewhere I could use as reference to start running this game myself? I'm trying to get into speedrunning, and me and several of my friends are learning speedruns to stream them next summer, so any help would be appreciated!
@@aclosh2983 Counterattack bonus on the rapier, upgraded when he got to Majula, used brightbugs to increase damage, used aromatic Ooze to add magic damage. Do all this and it adds up to a lot of damage
Ds2 has a few weapons that are borderline broken. Rapier, ricard's rapier, ice rapier, and some other rapiers. Thing is that ds2 speedrunners also upgrade it to +10 very early and put a dark buff (very effective against almost everything) on it twice (infusion and hex). But in the end yeah rapiers have dumb amount of damage for the stamina consumption and move set they have. Also the counter damage is high and almost all bosses in ds2 have very long lasting animation(they tend to stay "stuck" in animation for a good 1-2 seconds), making counter damage even easier to use.
How is your inventory manage so smooth and quick? Is it just practice or is there some kind of trick to it? Do you play with a controller or mouse/keyboard? Thanks in advance, I'm trying to learn the run off of your record :)
I have put well over 2000 hours into both sotfs and vanilla, and I dont have an 1/8th of the ability you show here. Good lord, the second you think you're good at something...
Love to see more of your videos dist, long time sub who rarely gets to make it to your streams. Wondering if you are every going to do a SOTFS 100% speedrun? I want to get the achivements in the game but I feel so lost about what order and how to do them haha
Would it be worth it to get the stone ring from the hippo at the start of the game? That would make the gang squad a hell of a lot easier since you wouldn’t have to worry about poise at all
Damn man you're everywhere... I mean Nioh World Record, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin World Record, World Record, World Record, and World Record. Really great and you might become the best Speedrun Channel I guess.
Near the end of Shrine of Amana, in the big circle surrounded by pillars, in the middle is a corpse in the water with the red iron twinblade as well as soul of a proud knight. Hope that helps
Not gunna lie it took me a collective of 50+ hours and a number of guides and tutorials to beat dark souls 2 and I come here and realised I missed a hole section of the game fml
Thanks for showing how great the rapier and twinblade are, I started using them myself. And the bosses strats, not that I managed to use most of them 🙃
After two years I gotta question. Why later in the game you swapped dark infusion for lightning? Bosses later got lower lightning defence than dark? Or scalling on lightning is higher on faith build? And also why still using Resonant Weapon? Just for mixed damage?
I know this is old, but doesn't an Elizabeth Mushroom negate the effect of a Brightbug if you take it second? The visual effect of the Brightbug disappears and I read on reddit you can only have 1 self-buff active at one time. But I assume you know what you are doing so I guess it does stack? Can anyone confirm?
