Sir, I have to admit. Your reviews and tutorials are the best. No gimmicks (smell tests, bikinis, nonsense), just pure information. In 8 minutes I can learn more from you than I can in 30 minutes from some of the other "photography experts". Thank you sir
Great Job. I like the way you did the comparisons between the different angles. I have bought and used the sun blockers you put in the windows of vehicles and they fold up nicely for bouncing the flash. Look for a silver backing or white backed sun blocker/ sun shade. Thanks again for the great video. Your videos are getting better every time. Thanks Jibran
Thank you for taking the time on this bad boy! Always wanting to learn more about my speed light without feeling like I could read the manual and learn the same thing. Perfect for a norma person to learn!
Great vid. I have watched quite a few about flash photography and this excellent video keeps it straight forward with great examples and demonstration.
I have been to mcbain camera several times so I could just get a little instruction for my speedlight. I have looked for courses and this video has explained just what I needed to know...Thanks.
This helps so much to understand how to work with a flash. I don't own one yet but I will probably purchase a SB700... thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I really like that you not only showed the controls close up but also showed the speedlight "in action" as well as the end result. What speedlight could you recommend for the Nikon D80? I'll be using it for indoor event photography (like weddings). Any advice is helpful! Thanks.
good job man! awesome vids and tutorials. it really helps a lot. any way i was wondering what setting do you usually use in shooting portrait photos? i'm planning to get an sb-700 this week. thank you
Great video...do you have any other videos on speed lights which touches on calculating based on lens and setting? Also, the 35mm you see is that the distance you choose or the lens? Speed lights are such a blur to me. Thank you!
Great tutorial man! So many video tutorials overcomplicate things, this is extremely straight-forward and gets right into the essentials. Just like I like it. With that said though, I would like to see an additional menu using the CLS-system with the flash off-camera. And perhaps even an explanation of high speed sync.
is it better to get proper exposure first without external flash? for example if i am shooting in manual, and i adjust aperture, shutter speed, and iso to a fair amount where the picture is properly exposed ... how do i then determine how much flash to output?
what was the flash power set at here? I just got my YN 560 II to go on my D3100 and am going to try to learn how to know when to use what flash setting. Guess it will take time to "just know" what setting to use Thanks
that's cool! i'm always on a manual mode and love to shoot portrait. thanks for the quick reply and hope to see your next tutorial soon. Awesomeness :)
hi im i just bought yn560 to take a new step in flash photography.. whats the diffrence by increasing your flash zoom, increasing your flash EV.. and increasing your flash power.. i took a few shots @ 18mm w kitlens in a dining room where my 3 cousins are sitting on a couch with this flash and it turned out theres only slight sign of flash power.. so what are the options i have to get the right effect~ sry for the noob question.. thx in advance~
right. I was talking about the flash power on these particular example photos in this video. I know the other video you mentioned what flash power you used
Excellent tutorial learned alot from it.. thank you... How ever I do have one suggestion.. when displaying differences between pictures don't just fade to black between images. because its hard to compare the differences between images. use standard cut and you can even add a shutter sound effect between images.. thanks..
Could you possibly do a video discussing "accessories" that people will need or that are useful when someone is buying their first DSLR? Filters, cases, what type of memory card to get, etc.? Some of this is probably obvious but some of it not so much. If not, I still have a question about filters: what are they, do I need one, and how do I find out what kind I need? These videos are lovely!
It was at first not focusing fast enough so I went to Manual focus and was a little faster. I was set at about 1.8 i believe but was shooting at 1/250 or 1/100 but by the time the lens opened and shut they were about off of the stage. I changed my focus setup so as I could just focus on the subject at the same location then clicked the camera in standby then shot when the next person walked up. worked a little better.
I hate to keep asking questions but I shot at a school for a graduation tonight and the problem I have is that I was shooting at ISO 3200 with flash but as they are walking up I noticed that when you click the shutter there is a delay then after a few seconds it will shoot. I took off the auto focus and shot manual which seemed to make a little difference but if I didnt just hold down the shutter and wait till they walked up to the podium I could not shoot fast enough to catch them before they
just purchase the same flash and when I tried it on my D600 with my 24-70mm it flashes 3 times and before taking the picture. How can I change that peed sync setting? I have tried to reset it and it doesn't work. Thanks for your video.
left. I was shooting at around 1/250. I hope you understand what I am saying. When I used to shoot with 35mm it was almost instantaneous when you shot and didn't have this problem. Am I doing something wrong?
Blur on the shot and when you push the shutter to shoot it is slow response before the lens actually opens then shuts so they have walked a couple of feet. I found it rather hard to catch the subject before they left the stage as it was very slow when depressing the shutter. A lot of the times causing blur. If you are able to shoot, you are only able to shoot one shot not multiple, even if the flash was able to recover because of the slow response of the shutter.
do you have to shoot in Manual mode when using the speed light or can you shoot in Aperture Priority mode? When I was in A mode, I can't change my shutter higher than 1/60. That's the highest my Flash Shutter Speed could go in my Bracketing/flash menu. But when I switched to Manual Mode in camera, then my ss went to 1/250, like I set my Flash Sync Speed to. Does that make sense?
