Best video ever Tom - consciously or subconsciously I think you've just described not only the best way to play games with kids but how to be the best parent to your children so that they can negotiate the twists and turns of that crazy game called Life...
What are all the Haba games in your video behind you??? I'm obsessed with Haba's kids games and now I'm researching their older out of print ones to get for my overgrown-kid-self and I guess my kids too😅
Great video Tom! I've always enjoyed your reviews on BoardGameGeek and just started watching your videos here. I hope to see more. I have three kids of my own and have played games with them since they were old enough to understand them. One thing I've taught them, that wasn't mentioned here, is to be a good sport, whether they win or lose. I've played with far too many poor-sported adults that I refuse to let my kids grow up to be like that! Be competitive but also show integrity!
Everything you said is everything I would have wanted to say and how it "should" be done.(and no, not that I'm right all the time... just saying I wholly agree with you.) Good stuff sir!
Let's play Phase 10! - A thousand times no! That's the only right answer, Tom. Down with Phase 10! P.S.: I would have never expected that you put so much comedy in a video. But it's great!
HAHAHAHA You Won!!!! That was funny. i have kids and they are still a little young for. most games, but i do remember playing chess with my father as a child, and we still play to this day. (we split a pair of games just 2 days ago). one of the things we did was once the game was over we went back a few moves to see what we could have done differently. and we would discuss it and talk it through and it turned into way mroe than a simple(?) chess game.
January 23, 2017 Q&A brought me here. :) Can anyone identify the game at the top of the tower in the intro? (I'm sure I've seen it before, but I can't place it. Maybe the other time/s were also old DT video intros...)
haha This is great. I pretty much agree with everything when it comes to keeping a balance, but I admit I do usually play to win. But I do it nicely. :-|
Things that seem to work for me: Find games with good aesthetic value (miniatures are a big hit for my kids), rules that can be simplified as needed (or have introductory versions of the rules), playing with a handicap (I won't attack until attacked first).
