I'm not pre-heating the fuel either, for all the reasons you mentioned. What I made is three slopes with a 1/2" pipe on top of my burner to get the air preheated a little more. On mine, I have installed a blower at the back which is essentially the same principle as your leaf blower (leftover blower from an old forge), and a line for compressed air. For aluminum melting, I can cope with the blower when I melt copper or bronze I use additional compressed air.

I approve of the can over the square burner. definitely helps with efficiency, Tough I doubt the air tube preheat on the baby godzilla is needed in this case. It might help burn dirty oil but that's mainly a problem during warmup where it won't do much anyways. For startup, you could try starting it on propane and then switching to oil once it's hot. This thing could also make for an interesting test bed. the section between burner and blower is just asking for a heat exchanger or nichrome coil. For testong you could literally just put a second burner on the heat exchanger.

You are edging closer and closer to the conditions of what AgentJZ has shown for the stages required for commercial jet engines.

Man if you keep it up one of these days youre going to have to be building burners out of tungsten. Lol. Love seening you push the limits.

I do successfully pre heat my oil, but I use heated coolant to do it. I also had issues with the boiling oil causing voids, solved this by having a positive displacement pump, little valve that maintains backpressure as close to the nozzle as possible, and a tiny nozzle orfice. Unfortunately all that isnt really feasible on smaller, more portable setups such as yours.

Would injecting some propane with the waste oil. Make it burn cleaner and hotter? Kinda like propane injection on diesels
