I bought the ds1 too (one two, one two), the software editor is a bit fiddly on W10 but I manage to assign the reggae colours to the buttons as well :-) Thanks for the tip man.
Hi Dub Creator, Just seen your video and it's 2 years later! I'm really interested about the Livid DS-1 because of your example of use in mixing on the fly with hands on, very inspiring and what version of Ableton Live are were you using with it? I'm hoping to get Livid DS-1 but support is lacking and others are finding it not working with Ableton 9+ Do you know other models as versatile or will Livid be upgrading the DS-1? Can you explain your set up/hook up to enable what you do in simple steps please? I would like to add external effects as well... Thanks in advance for any info, support assistance you can give me and your time. Kind Regards
I spent so long looking for a controller laid out for dub. Eventually ran across this and then found out the company was gone. Shantea could custom build something, but it's out of my price range. I currently make do with an AKAI APC40, but it's pretty limiting.
Nice one Dubcreator! You can actually feedback the Ableton Filter Delay on itself using the sends. If you grab the Ableton session from my DS1 video, you can see how it works. On other plugins I use the feedback like you have there.
@@demoxcro786 - dunno if you've tried it right....I have both methods to choose/use....outboard Boss pedal Space-echo & Benidub delay.... Still regularly use Ableton send to send re-loop technique....for endless delay its great.
Can you explain your signal path,or even better demonstrate on video? I do it like this:(and it doesnt sound good with digital pedal, but does sound good with a real tape echo.) Aux send to tape input, tape feedback set on lowest setting to get 1 repeat only, return signal goes to a new channel on mixing board, where it gets resent into same aux channel. With tape,it sounds fantastic, but with digital effects,i allways get some sort of clipping and nasty artifacts. It is becouse the tape when hit with a loud signal can still sound good, even better in some instances, due to saturation, digital on the other hand,as soon as you get into the red meters zone, bad audio artefacta are apparent
Demox Cro - sounds similar what I do; in Ableton the trick is set up a ‘return’ channel (say letter B) & in that drop the ‘simple delay’ effect, set the dry/wet all way up to wet, set its feedback to 0%. Now when u send this just gives you one repeat. Now right click on the B (same letter) send knob on the return channel to enable the re-send.....believe it or not Ableton allows you to return your return back into itself forming a loop. Turn the new send knob up to around 3pm....(be cautious here) now u have a continuous echo (always in-synch to your tempo) after the simple delay add a limiter to save your speakers hahaha..... between the delay an limiter you can place any addition effect u like....eg saturator or reverb will degrade the echo .... or a simple eq can be very effective.
@@rikkardo1980 - I use an XL...its good but only has 3 returns (if you re-assign the 'pan')...These guys custom build; shanteacontrols.com/2019/08/06/building-dubfocus-controllers/
Ok, i send 1 to a filter plugin which goes to an output to a spring reverb input, from the spring back to an input into logic. I use a hardware spring reverb. The other aux is for a main reverb which also goes to an output then to a lexicon LXP15 (in the vid at least as my LXP died couple of months ago) then back to logic. So i use both outboard and plugins. I got 26 physical outputs and 24 physical inputs. I did put another aux on a flange kinda plugin but didn't use that in the vid.
Good tips, I need to look into a good spring reverb voor my DAW. Your tracks are the best man, played some of your older tracks in the car this morning: bigger dub, dub 303, distorted dub, fog in my head dub. I can't get enough of those tracks, respect!
