I'm still waiting for someone to explain RU-vid Poop to me in a way that actually makes me understand and make sense of it. For someone with a fascination for internet subcultures, not being able to comprehend YTPMV... well it bothers me a lot.
Anyway, late 2001 on EFnet, ELiMiNATiON, don't remember who in that group, asked me for a keygen and told me there were more requests to come. I was happy to fill the request. They never got back to me. Not even sure if they ever used it.

"I'm still waiting for someone to explain RU-vid Poop to me in a way that actually makes me understand and make sense of it. For someone with a fascination for internet subcultures, not being able to comprehend YTPMV... well it bothers me a lot." The main appeals of YTPMV are, in my opinion, reference humor, music, and visuals. These sometimes include sentence-mixed lyrics, too. I categorize YTPMV like this, in order of originality: 1. "Original YTPMV", original compositions that use samples from a different work of media. Well-known example: watch?v=vDMwDT6BhhE . 2. "Mashup/Medley/Remix YTPMV", combinations of multiple songs, or an altered version of an existing song, using samples from a different work of media. Well-known examples: watch?v=ddWJatRxfz8 and watch?v=8iEw1xFoitI . 3. "Arrangement YTPMV", existing tracks arranged with new instruments from a different work. There's also a lazy version of this that uses MIDI files to automagically replace samples. Well-known example: watch?v=6zN1f1ckEaY . 4. "Sample Insertion YTPMV", where existing tracks are taken and samples are inserted over it. Not very well-known but illustrative example: watch?v=hxnSfDnmD7w . You're probably most familiar with (4) if you're getting them from Content ID. I think it's useful to think of YTP as a comedy show requiring more additional context. Usually, it's a mix of satire, absurd, reference and shock humor. For example, this YTP is satirizing a RU-vid channel by making the hosts say things they wouldn't otherwise: watch?v=4gTOl5BTbEY . This German-language YTP makes fun of, among other things, infomercials and racists, uses shock humor and absurd speech: watch?v=J6mShxO_sgA . There's sometimes an element of recontextualizing familiar media similar to mascot horror, for example, by using the children's show Caillou as source material. Nostalgia is probably a part of it too.

I guess like everything on the internet, ytp's venn diagram doesn't have lines as much as it has big blurry spots near the edges. I always found ytps to be "various edits based on a piece of media" (though that definition is so broad as to be rendered useless). At this point there are so many counterpoints to any specific definition that its come to resemble my time in taxonomy in undergrad. ytpmv are well, music videos (in the name) which are edits/pitch shifting of pieces of media into music. This often takes the cover of common music on the internet (though the coolest ones are originals) quality and style goes from things like Gaston goes to tacobell (waxinator never misses) to Resist mario which has a more in depth plot and sentence mixing. YTPMVs can be just simple edit covers like MF simpson over a bgm or an original like Robotnik Rock. Voice mixing like wow or Yankish war from Robomi are pretty new developments too. Yankish war kinda goes into Silvagunner territory which is less a can of worms and more like a dimension of it. If you have any other questions about ytp(mv) let me know!

OK So I've had very limited exposure to YTP. Or rather, my exposure to it can be summed up to the RU-vid Content ID alerts I get when someone have been using my music in their YTP videos. So take Eliminating BFDI, and the videos it draws from, and the videos that draws from it as an example. What I see is simply the instruments in my original module having been swapped out for seemingly random short video clips, leaving the rest of the song data intact. This is where I struggle to see the point of it? Sure if it is done manually, then there is a certain amount of time and effort having been put into actually doing it, and maybe that is the point? But since it is almost exclusively done with tracker modules like this one, well I suspect they just exported the module content to MIDI and imported that into whatever video editing software and voila. So then, without the effort, again, whats the point? The only impression I get is that YTPMV vibes of internal joke/meme culture from some subforum somewhere on the internet. But that can't just be it, can it?

YTPMVs (in their most common form) are covers of music where the goal is to recreate the instruments using clips or soundbytes of the authors chosen media. In the case of Eliminating BFDI, that media happens to be the authors animated web series called BFDI. In my opinion, a lot of YTPMVs are tributes to the original music they cover, and I think the fact that tracker modules are widely popular in the space is simply because people enjoy them. Or simply, people make them for the sake of making a cover, and all the reasons that come with doing that, like recontextualizing a song you really enjoy. Exporting a tracker module to MIDI and then inserting pitch corrected soundbytes into that MIDI is definitely considered lazy and low effort for a YTPMV, and its usually pretty obvious when someone has done that. Not to mention there's the visual side of things too, which is also done manually to be in sync with the music. I can definitely see how YTPMVs might seem pointless or just weird though. They're a very old aspect of the internet that's managed to stick around through the ages (another reason why tracker modules are commonplace).

/me has no idea and assumed there was some trend to make playlists just for when nature calls just from reading "youtube poop". Then thought maybe this is a formalisation this thing some women do of playing music or turning a tap on to cover the fact that they are unloading a nasty one. Anyhow, I like this music, don't know if I would poop to it though.

YTP can be extremely advanced culturally... unironically. Check out ffgasm, if you know final finasy, the timing and overall delivery of that man makes me feel things beyond human comprehension - It's truly art. For example the opening of Fran's Sexy Suspender Striptease, as the character gets ready to catch her, it's so unbelievably well edited, typical unfunny meme quote, followed by him grabbing, staring at her and pushing her back up, then he proceed to poop laugh hysterically. His laugh is so annoying in the game and she's such a stereotype. It trascends Japanese/internet subcultures and transforms it into a powerplay between men. Uncaring stupid men, men having fun with stupid jokes, men making these videos. YTP is so masculine and human in general, I despise identity politics and identity in general but YTP is a narrative born from uncaring men being uncaring in the way they are creative. It's normal you'll never understand it unless you spent your life online in those circles but who cares? certainly I don't and i miss ffgasm so much. I love your music a lot tho

also, >For someone with a fascination for internet subcultures, not being able to comprehend YTPMV... well it bothers me a lot. what? what is there to really comprehend about YTPMV? I always just thought it was some guys on the internet flexing their musical skills by composing a song out of some jew saying the word plam.
@Dubmood_Music
@Dubmood_Music 4 месяца назад
but they are not composing a song. they are just swapping out the samples of a song that someone else composed. as effortless as changing the snaredrum in a fasttracker module, they replace the snaredrum with someone saying something. Only difference is their audio sample also includes a video snippet. So yeah, I don't get it.
