I lost my axle nut but didnt crash!
Check those rear axle nuts. They should be torqued to 145 NM
Thanks to Chuck Graves for helping me out so I could go on a street ride

Damn, glad you're ok. I think torque spec on those nuts are like 106 ft-lb, so it must have been pretty loose to completely come off. Check that front axle nut too!

That dealer would lose my business after that ridiculous excuse.

Hey David, you flashed my FZ1 years ago in the parking lot down in Fort Myers. Sold the bike but damn was it fast.

the exact thing happened to me on my 400cc single cylinder bike. I was changing my chain and sprockets at the dealer, finished the job and he went on a test ride. I rode back home doing 150+km/h on the highway, and only noticed when when I got back home. I'm just lucky to be alive today. I bet this $1500 inspection didn't include a torque spec check. the reason my axle nut got loose is because the dealer used an electric driver to tighten the nut instead of a proper torque wrench

Yes, the dealer mechanic should have checked the axle nut as part of prep. Doesn’t take long to get a socket & torque wrench. 👍accepting responsibility for not checking yourself. It’s your butt on the bike!

So cool to meet a legend and an inspiration to find out they are as passionate and excited about motorcycles as I am! Him and his team are all awesome guys! And extremely good at what they do!!!

PDI should have checked this - honestly, it one of the main safety fasteners and it's not torqued so high that it can't be checked. Also agree that we all need to check our own bikes before we ride on track - a little lockwire and threadlocker here and there doesn't hurt either.

I reckon the lock nut should be on left hand side of bike too resist rotational forces, i figure being on left only make it tighter if there are any that is ,but thats how i got mine on my K8 never came loose before also bike shop should be doing A pre delivery heck wich involves torquing axle nuts too spec ,they lie .

Yeeeaaaaahhhhh, sorry, that is 100% on the $1500 PDI charge from the Stealership, not Ducati. Period The Factory has QA/QC but like any Manufacture, the odd time something will get missed. The Dealer IS the final check point and that will be in their contract with Ducati. I've disputed this B.S. markup and have been told: "Dealer is charging for a Certified Mechanic to QA/QC a Machine to sign off and deem it road-worthy". This isn't a reflector that fell off, or a decal put on crooked, it's a 30 some odd mm GIGANTIC nut that literally keeps the wheel on and the Rider off the pavement. You could have been killed. This is not acceptable on any level. The Customer is not a Certified Mechanic and CANNOT QA/QC their own bike. Some Bike Owners don't know a tire from muffler bearings, so I don't accept you taking responsibility for this and neither should anyone else. I'd demand my $1500 back from the dealer. They would tell me to F.O. and I'd call the highest Stooge at Ducati with a Lawyer and have that dealer's licence pulled. 'Cause if it happened to you, it will happen to someone else........

OMG! That's totally wild and unexpected. Good thing you didn't get hurt or crashed the bike. Are you all done with your break-in period already?

Point the finger somewhere else. Prep fees...No marks on the nut for torque?

There is no locking mechanism on the nut on either side. I will be safety wiring the new one.

Take a locking nut or do what Kawasaki do.Unacceptamble for a race bike with alot of vibrations as single cylinder!@@vcyclenut

All axle nuts on bikes that aren't a castle nuts are self-locking nuts, they don't just fall off unless they are loose to begin with, which is Ducati/Dealer fault for missing.

Should be: My Aprilia and all my Motocross bikes are NyLoc.
