Ok, I own a base Panigale V4 .On some of the points that you have I agree with others I do not. The heat is barely bearable in jeans and I live in socal, I look at it this way it keeps the squids that wear shorts while riding off of it. The touring part, I didn't buy it for touring...period! As for the track, oh god I've never had so much fun!! The electronics the handling and the power, oh the power! The back of my arms were sore the next day because of the pull of this bike! The satisfaction after riding this bike on the track was like I imagine having an orgy with super models but better because I get to do it again and again. As far as being able to afford it, you only live once. Ciao.

@@Freakyfetus I haven't rode the 1299 but I did have a 1098 and theres no comparison. What I remember most at the track is going woh and laughing at the same time, it's such a blast! Traction control is epic! In sport mode you won't even know it's on unless you get a chance to take a glimpse of the indicator light. Oh, by the way rear tire lasted 2,000 miles. The Panigale V4.....the second best way to use rubber. Well, the best way

@@sfcindia981 The only way you will get anything near what this machine is capable of, is on the Track. Incredibly honest review and opinion based off of fact. I have all of about 2k miles on my Speciale and love it. Having every S model panigale (1199 to the V4), this model is so much more user friendly than the previous ones. I can be in 6th gear and drive in the city at 45 mph (sorry we don't use kph...) which was almost impossible to do with the older models. Great review!

Nice review...I am thinking of buying a 2019 V4R ($45K...Yep, that's a chunk of change) and if I do it will be just for what you described, the Saturday rides to just experience the 234 H.P. and the visceral nature of the beast...I'm a just retired Engineer but in my youth I was a two class AMA Expert License holder and raced at Daytona in '75 and though I have always liked to ride fast and push things I have no desire to get on the track anymore...I did that when my reflexes were such that I was at my fastest and most fearless.

I know exactly what he means. I keep walking out into the garage to look at mine. Very nice for the weekend one hour curvy ride to breakfast on the coast and one hour back. The Akrapovic exhaust took care of the involuntary castration problem.

Your reviews are great. But for the reasons mentioned on the V4, I decided to go with the Supersport S. None of the heat issues, wonderful Ducati noises, still a 2 cyl bike, and rough around the edges. Riding position is much better, and it looks good in the garage with a coat of wax. Here in the US, the higher speeds are out of question on the roads, but track days are still wonderful, since you enjoy 100% of the power available with the 937, and live through it. Mine is a keeper.

I agree completely. Tested a SS S and loved it (I have owned an 1198S and MTS-1200) except the frame knbs dug right in behind my knee caps. Could not squeeze the bike... bought a Tuono instead ... could be the perfect bike ...

I've enjoyed every video on this bike. I wanted to find out what it was like to live with and compare it with my experience of my Ducati 748 which I had about twenty years ago, bought new. They seem very similar. I used to work for MCN, Motorcycle Mechanics and Motorcycle Racing, many years ago and still like bikes and watching bike films like yours. I am just about ready to buy another bike, my last one being a Suzuki V-Strom. Good videos, keep them coming.

I’m lucky enough to own several Ducati’s, and I can relate to your comments about the pleasure gained by simply staring at them and taking in their beauty. Somehow this one aspect seems to blind me to their flaws. The comment below relating the bike to that beautiful girlfriend who was a bit of a handful to live with, but you put up with it because she looked so damn good is spot on.

I so much respect MCN for the objectivity of their reviews. I chose tyres according to one of theirs and I was so happy with the choice. Respect. So, here, turns out that friendly (= fast for the average rider) is still the real area of "exotica" for the Italians. Those guys just need to torture their customers, for decades on end.

I switched to DOT 5.1 for the clutch fluid, i could see yours is black already. My dealer replaced the quick shifter, and for some reason the chain has to be in DUCATI speck for the quick shiter to work correctly, i don't like to run my chain that tight,but it won't shift with the quick shifter unless i do run it tight like Ducati wants, and the warning light did come on for a minute once, but it went away. Other than that it's been a incredible reliable and trouble free bike. Thank you for your review Mike.😁

I used to own an 1199s and had no problem riding it for hours; both in town and highway riding. I know it's not the same bike, but the 1199 had the same complaints as this new V4. Hot, uncomfortable, the list goes on. My experience was nothing but awesome. I put over 5,000 miles on that bike and would still have it in my garage if not for life circumstances.

Excellent review, and nice job of putting into words why someone would choose a Ducati, or other "premium" brand. No one needs a 24K bike, and if logic were always the deciding factor in a bike purchase we would all be riding around on 500cc commuters. Logic was no where to be seen when I traded my Honda in for my first Ducati :-)

Are you sure about the bike having brake by wire? There seems to be a normal master cylinder which the brake lever connects to directly.

Thanks for the clarification @@neevesybikes ! So it's not purely brake by wire, there still is a hydraulic connection between the lever and the brakes.
@neevesybikes
@neevesybikes 5 лет назад
InlineSix hoses from the two brake levers to a pump, then another set out to the callipers. There’s no direct connection, which is why they don’t have the feel of a non ABS system.
@ErikMartijn
@ErikMartijn 5 лет назад
@@neevesybikes I understand, thank you. Awesome bike.
@LasseJOugaard
@LasseJOugaard 5 лет назад
@@ErikMartijn Well yes and no, the connection is direct - as in there is no servo assistance from the pump so the pressure you produce at the lever does go unaltered and directly to the caliper, as long as the ABS is not intervening. But the pressure lines do go through the abs-block which contains a number of valves, galleries and a pumping mechanism. This in turn leads to inevetable changes in flow and flex properties of the system, which will take away "feel" as Neeves stated.

Interesting. Not as reliable as a Japanese superbike, nor as fast, nor as comfortable, nor as easy to ride. But you still adore it. That x factor is why European marques are still doing so well, and long may they do so.

You seem to have completely missed my point. Your chain doesn't NEED to be spotless yet you keep it that way while simultaneously running dirty oil in the engine and transmission. Doesn't make much sense, does it?
@neevesybikes

spoonman73 I get your point - I change the oil in my S1000RR race bike after every meeting. But there’s little point changing it before the manufacturer recommends on a road bike, though.

Chris Bramblett meh... maybe I’m old. Back in the days we always had loads of girls around, when my friends and I arrived in our town main square with our bikes. Maybe today men are non manly anymore and girls are non attracted by manliness anymore. But now I’m long time married and that’s not my game anymore. I feel blessed I was 20 in the 1990’s in Italy.

Brake by wire implies that the hand lever is connected to a voltage source and electrical circuit that is read by an analog to digital converter that takes the digital signal and sends that to a motor or something that actuated the hydraulic fluid that goes to the calipers. I don’t think thats the case. I think Mercedes has brake by wire but I’ve not heard of bikes doing it. The Panigale does have ABS but that’s not brake by wire in the full sense.
