The annual Minnesota Duck Hunting opener weekend. The tradition once again continues. Hot weather, a couple of rain storms and not a whole lot of ducks were flying but as always it was an awesome traditional opening weekend.
I lost my mother in March. Keep the home fire burning for your father. It is lovely that he shares his memories with you. Hold each word he speaks with reverance and remember to pass those stories on to each member of yoru family.
Your Dad is a good man and really loves you! that was really sweet how he walked over to your camp and checked on you. He knew you were missing the kids. Lots of changes in your life the last few years.
Your story about the younger generation missing out When I was in my 20s I did not have a care in the world of listening to old stories and now I’m in my 40s my grandparents are longer here and I would love to sit by the fire and just listen people like your dad talk and tell stories.
I don’t know about you all, but every time I get this “Movie” notifications, I get so excited like someone just sent me a gift unexpected in my mailbox! Congratulations, Zack and Grandpa Joe on the new arrival of your newest family member!
Joe it was great to see your Dad, that made my day. I do have to admit, I missed Sarah it's 4am, Sarah, it's 4:20, Sarah, it's 4:45, I'm heading out. I sure hope she makes it to the tent for deer hunting. Tell her from an old man, she has all her life to work, but precious few times to make memories. Thanks for sharing Joe, deer (bow hunting) opens here next week 😃
Love the family history and the old stories :) My older family is gone now but glad I was there to hear the stories/tails of mostly deer hunting and fishing! I always asked about the hunts before my time glad I did learned my Aunt Linda always out did the boys. :)
Sarah I've watched about a dozen times. Please do whatever you can to clear your schedule this year to make it to duck camp with your dad. I'm a dad and I can tell how much he misses you not being there. You at duck camp and deer camp I'll bet is his two favorite times of the year. He always says when he goes back for second week of deer camp how much he misses you not being there. Your a good daughter and have grown into a very nice young woman.
Thanks to you, Zach, and Sam for the video of Rose the day after she was born. This is the first time I have watched this video. Doesn't seem like a Duck Camp video without Sarah and Zach.
Read a comment that your little red lantern is paying respects to your grandpa. Is that the reason, great way to honour him. Nice to see your dad up ,missed Sara and Zack.Great video you never disappoint ,thanks for Sharing. Dale
My kids are gone now too. It took some adjustment, but life is good and we are blessed! Rose Dixie will always be known for arriving the day before Duck Season Opener: 2019. :) The fish house looks much easier to deal with than the big old canvas tent.
Man this makes me wanna go camping! That tent looks so cozy and comfy especially on a cold night, with a fire built and the sound of wood popping as it burns.
Hi Joe, it puts a tear in my eye when I hear what your dad told you that its been since 1912! that is unbelievable. I hear ya when your loved ones are not around to hear your Dad reminiscing about old days, heck I don't even no your dad and I wish I was at that fire! So your job Sir, is to make sure your loved ones know about his past , so this awesome tradition continue !
Thank you Joe for including us in your adventures. So happy that your dad made it up there. Your new grand baby so beautiful, just like the rest of your kids and grand kids so wonderful and beautiful. God Bless!
Another good duck camp in the books. Time spent with family is worth more than the total kill. Too bad Zach and Sarah could not make it but that is the way it works some times. Enjoy the video Joe and look forward to deer season at the cabin and more from the homestead where little ear'd does roam.
Great Video...pretty soon the kids will be up with the grands in tow. Stories were the best part of being with my dad...I learned he still had the kid inside him...lol
How precious are those stories your dad told. Treasure that video! I'm around your age and I remember my dad and his buddies sitting around telling stories of their time in WW 2. (My dad's favorite was when he and his best friend dressed up as women to get into a ladies only dance on the airforce base...stockings, lipstick and all...it was hilarious! Only he could tell it right, though!) How I wish I'd recorded those stories! There's so much I don't remember and now they're lost forever. Record as much as you can! Great video :)
I have the same camp kitchen. Right now we are using it in our house that Bill is building since he doesn’t have a kitchen in yet. Hopefully soon I will have a real kitchen
When I first started following your channel I didn't even watch the duck hunting videos because not being a duck hunter, I just wasn't interested. Now they've become some of the best videos of the year for me. Good job and thanks for all the work involved
My Fitbit tells me I’m sleeping during the times I watch your videos, because they de-stress me so much. Thanks for sharing, Joe. And congrats on another grand baby
The perfect way to spend time whilst the wife is soaking up her Strictly Come Prancing tripe. Congrats to Zack and Samantha on the arrival of little Rose and thank you Joe for sharing your duck hunting adventures with us, it's really appreciated
I enjoy watching your presentations. Very interesting indeed. I also love the ritual and dedication to your Grandfather with the Red Paraffin Lamp. Very touching indeed Respect ✊Ken Australia 🇦🇺
It was cool seeing you drive through Garrison my folks live about half way between there and brainerd just off 18 brings back some good memories thanks for sharing.
Never a disappointment. Duck Opener 2019 is in the book. Nothing against going solo in my opinion. Nicely done, bummer on camera and congrats, Mom,Dad and Grandparents. Great ones too!.
Joe I missed hearing you say, "Sara it's 4:30 time to get up". It was so quiet in your camp this year without them there with you. It was nice seeing your brother Chris and his wife Theresa but especially nice to see your dad as well. At least you got one duck and it looked delicious! Loved hearing you share your family's stories from your childhood and don't worry; your grand kids will soon be there with you and the rest of the family so you can share those memories with them. Also, congratulations on your newest grand baby little Rose she is adorable. Looking forward to deer hunting the movie 2019!
Beautiful area to camp and wonderful tradition but the only thing I would have done different is bring my fishing rod. If the ducks didn't fly spinner baits would
Had to drop in and comment on your video. I have watched for several years and totally enjoy your content and must say I have a variety of favorites but I target yours as my top of the list. Joe congrats on being a grandpa again. Your annual duck hunting opener in my book is a success even without bagging out , it's the tradition that makes it so special. Hopefully the kids can join you for next year's duck opener.
feeling melancholic Joe , its great when you have family with you and it wont be long before the grandchildren will be hunting with you or at least going to the camp and enjoy the time with your dad, my dad passed 4 weeks ago so I am looking after mum, cheers from Scotland
Great video I did dishes and got supper ready watching it. Congratulations on the new grandchild exciting time. We just finished a moose we had two tags at our camp and filled both with two good bulls I got a video up of our hunt no action shots though. You're smart for videotaping the old stories now you can pass it down. I wish I would have videoed my grandfather when I used to sit with him in his sun porch and listen to stories. Once again great video.
Yeah you got yourself a duck. I love duck meat especially on a stick with barbecue sauce on it. Delicious. I want to wish you luck in all your duck hunting days.Good Luck.
I look forward to this video every year. Next up, DEER HUNTING 2019. "The Movie" , my favorite one of all. Thanks again Joe, Take care, and congratulations on the new granddaughter
Joe I want to thank you for all the work you put into the videos. Not all of us have the years of traditions that you and your family do. I love to hear the stories. I am spending a lot of time solo on my hunting property basically doing what you do at the tent. I love it!! Keep em coming man!! Jeremy
Thanks Joe. Too bad none of the kids could make it but life has obviously gotten busier for them. You sure do put an awesome camp together. Reminded me of the days we used to campout in Missouri a hundred years ago. See you next time. Good luck with the camera.
Thanks for taking us along and whatever you do hang on to the tradition of your trips they are great memories. My family members started not going to deer camp each year now I am the only one that goes and it is not the same.
This was a bit more bush-crafty, I like it. Smart using the fishing hut as a tent. Glad you shared these sweet moments of your dad talking and telling stories. You are blessed to hear that kind of history. It was also nice to hear your stories and memories as well. Looks like you had good times around the fire with a coldie. I love that you remember your grandpa with the lantern every year. Very special. The food made me hungry as always. Great Video. Thanks for sharing.
Lot of effort for not much reward but that is hunting for you these days. Ducks and wildfowl seem s to be pretty savvy as to when its safe and not to fly into open waters. Cheers Joe for sharing.
I am still glad you did your trip alone. It sucks the Kiddos had alternate Circumstances, although understandable ones, but I appreciate your time and bringing us along with you. I always enjoy! Thank you and Congrats on your new Granddaughter Rose!
Awesome video Joe. Congrats again to Zach and Sam on the birth of Baby Rose! A grandpa again. Just think, shortly you will be able to have the grand kids enjoying the outdoors as well! That is when the real fun begins!! Keep the videos coming Joe. They are always enjoyable. Today is my duck/goose opener. Started with no duck sightings and only a couple of geese but no volunteers for the freezer LOL. Leaving right now to try for the afternoon hunt. Cheers Joe.
Good luck and thank you. I will be up to the Tent next weekend. IF there are any ducks around (you never know up there, it is not at all in any flyway) I will be hunting them.
It’s so good to see it rain,,it hasn’t rained here in Western NC for seven weeks,, bow season came in September third and I have not even thought about going because of drought
Joe, it may seem hot but brother the southeastern US is like an oven. The wife and I went looking for elk today up in the mountains and finally saw 70 degrees on the truck thermometer, it felt great. Finally next week the highs will be in the mid 70s in the valley around east Tennessee, man I'm looking forward to it. The water temp on the lakes are still low 80s and I'm ready to catch some smallmouth, maybe in a couple weeks the topwater bite will crank up. As always, great duck hunting movie, thanks for sharing with us.

So relaxing watching this Classic!........can’t wait for the Deer Opener...........and then the Winter Tent !......it did seem a bit lonely without the Kids.........I hope they try to go next year......thanks again for the hunt & camp.......I enjoy them tremendously......
Dang man this was so awesome I wish my family had lineage like this. I got my hunting license when I was 12. I'm 39 never used it. I wish I had friends that hunt.
