Yeah, I’m pretty sure this was a backdoor pilot and if it’s successful, we just might get another reboot. From the looks of it, Ducktales is the testing ground for new Disney Afternoon type of deal for kids today.
I mean they even give Launchpad a way to ve in the series since he says at the end "I'll spend my days in Duckberg and my nights in Saint Canard and I can sleep on the drive over."
The Ducktales reboot has been great, especially the triplets who are now separate, fleshed-out characters. I'm looking forward to Kit and Molly for Tailspin showing up, and hopefully seeing some of the other cameos returning for follow-ups.
I think we can all agree the best rebooted character is Webby. Here, she actually has a personality, instead of the original where she was just “girl”.
@@Talongirl333 exactly, i was so into this reboot, and i’ll be honest i saw her and went “oh please make her better, please flesh her out, you’ve done great with everybody else, please make her good” and they did so good with her, out of all the female characters she’s one of my favs, i’m personally so legit happy with this reboot and i hope they put these seasons out on dvd someday, legit so damn glad as a girl that they made her more then just the token “hello i is girl, i’m here to be female” it’s beyond great.
@@Deoxys911 well first there needs to be humans since the main characters other than the gargoyles were humans and the main gargoyles were based off humans luckily humans were in the quack pack a show that was 2 years after duck tails with the triplets as the main and Donald and daisy as supporting characters and a few camios and I think it happens after a huge event that we don’t see

when i saw right, then "Fluppy Dogs" was referenced in the Szene where Gosalyn "zapped" trough the dimensions in search for her grandpa. Douring the search we see a few short pictures of the other dimensions and one of them, it was TWO of the Fluppy Dogs, from the old film. I literaly flipped out when i saw that XD
Here's a subtle callback to the original show: When Gosalyn puts a sleeping Darkwing's cape over him like a blanket, she hums the melody to "Little Girl Blue" - the lullaby from the old cartoon whose lyrics held the secret code to operating the Ramrod.
If I remember correctly, in the earlier episode where Glomgold and Scrooge are bidding to make a vault for the money tree, wasn't the color code used as the password later in that episode.

I'd have to go back to check to be certain, but I believe it was a bit of the one from a song Von Drake sang in "Wonderful World of Color" called "The Spectrum Song" ==EDIT== Yep, Doomsday Vault one was "red yellow green red blue blue red purple green orange red red" which was from Von Drake's first appearance singing that song, Little Girl Blue was "Yellow, blue, red blue, purple too, Blue, purple and green, then the yellow.". Yes! It was driving me crazy because I knew his voice was familiar. Saw the name in the credits and one quick google search later and it was a total "AHA!" moment. Great performances all around for that matter.

Just for future reference. This show airs every Monday. Also, they referenced the song "Little Girl Blue" from the original pilot, but had Goslyn putting Darkwing to sleep instead of vise versa. They even used the same background music.
The lizard doctor in the book image was the chaos god. The very god that was responsible for the first Disney afternoon shared universe. For one story, in the 90’s, darkwing duck, chip and dale rescue rangers, talespin, goof troop, and Ducktales all shared a universe, linked by the character’s encounter with a weakened chaos god. Who just happened to be the guy who invented that dimension circuit.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much about a Rescue Rangers episode. From what I've gathered online, they were originally told the Rescue Rangers were entirely off limits because Disney is developing some kind of live-action/CGI movie with them. The DuckTales crew kind of had to sneak them in where they did. Disney didn't push back at what amounted to a cameo appearance, but I imagine they don't want any extensive storylines with the characters at this point. 😕

I can't believe they referenced "a sea monster ate my ice cream!" tantrum, Fluppy Dogs or Bonkers. I couldn't stop smiling. This is my new favorite episode. All the fanservice with a great new story. I really help we do get a spin-off. Also, a lot of the Season 3 is on Disney Now btw.
Something I loved about this episode was small, but it caught my attention. The direction they seem to be taking Darkwing's relationship with Gizmoduck. Having Darkwing be pals with Fenton, not knowing he's Gizmoduck. That is such, a hilarious idea that they could do so much with! Both as a running joke and when Drake eventually figures it out. I don't know if Fenton has finally figured out how to keep his secret identity, or if Drake is just, not that observant, but I love it! Fenton is my favorite character on the show and I can't wait to see future adventures with him and Darkwing and what they do with this fun and confusing dynamic.
Indeed. It was actually kinda endearing not only having Darkwing actually being friends with Fenton, but that he genuinely values Fenton’s input and were actively working together to help Gosalyn. 😊
No, but see the joke right now is that EVERYONE figured out Fenton was Gizmoduck except Darkwing Duck. Bonus points because Darkwing is a Batman parody and Gizmoduck is sort of a Superman parody, and usually Batman is the first one to connect Superman = Clark Kent.
Hey! I love your DT reviews! Fenton is my second fave character (second only to Gyro), and I totally agree with you! I also thought it was a nice touch that Fenton created Darkwing's advanced computer/AI (I wonder he designed it with such a sassy personality, though LOL).

I had been waiting for the reboot to shoehorn in "A sea monster ate my ice cream" and the way they did it here not only did not disappoint but was way more clever than I gave them credit for! Also, every Darkwing Duck reference had me geeking out!!!
I enjoy this episode so much! So many lines got me! Dewey saying to Gosalyn “ I’ll be your Webby.” ❤️ The funniest line for me “ I am the technical difficulty you’re about to experience!” 😆 The references are great. The characters are funny and they get your heart at times. I can’t get enough! ❤️ You can binge on Disney+ and HULU Live has the recent season. Now get to watching Andre! 😄👍
Another reference was when Launchpad devises a way for he and Gosalyn to get inside the lab by dressing as Jambalaya Jake and the Bug Master, two obscure Darkwing Duck villians. Quackerjack describes them as C-listers.
Does make me wonder how different the in universe show within a show episodes were than our real world show. Obviously there was no Launchpad or Gosalyn, no Gizmoduck, seemingly no Negaduck II except maybe that's what the series finale cliffhanger was setting up (Possibly a Negaduck I since a version of Megavolt's tron splitter was in DW's stuff in the tower, could be a prop from the original show he recovered), etc. So who was the other superhero in their Just Us Justice Ducks? Did their Bug Master episode have a kid that was in some way associated with DW who idolized the journalist that became the Bug Master like Gosalyn did? I assume we'll probably never get answers to those, but it's interesting to me to think about.
My favorite reference in the series has to be the Ludwig Von Drake "Spectrum" song as the code for his vault in "Raiders of the Doomsday Vault". I felt so happy when it happened.
When Gosalyn said “Keen Gear!”, I did the whole Leonardo DiCaprio point thing lol It was very much like Robin’s “Holy rusted metal, Batman!” from Batman and Robin because she was talking about DW’s equipment, but still, very cute way of working in her catchphrase. Also, if you haven’t caught up on Ducktales reboot, it’s more than worth it to watch for the Glomgold retcon backstory. It is, without a doubt, one of the funniest and mind blowing episodes I’ve seen in any show. Glomgold became my favorite character because of it.
Ducktales 2017 is literally the best Disney cartoon I’ve watched since gravity falls and it’s the ONLY cartoon I’ve watched religiously since Gravity falls. I love this show so much (and launchpad is the first character I’ve related to heavily ever). And O M G lets get dangerous is honestly my favorite episode to date (right next to the duck knight returns). I lost my mind when bonkers showed up and when lp dressed up as jambalaya jake. AND AND AND AND AND season 3 is on Amazon prime and episodes update a day after they air
I hope they reference Gargoyles, it’s my favorite Disney Saturday Afternoon show and there are a bunch of rumors about a reboot maybe they could set it up on Ducktales?
I love Gargoyles. It's probably my favorite Disney Afternoon show. That being said, I have a hard time picturing a way to reference it organically in the new DuckTales universe, let alone use it to setup a Gargoyles reboot. The style and tone was just so different from the other shows. On the other hand, if any crew could figure out a way to make it work, it would be this one.

This was an awesome episode and nostalgia bomb. Things I noticed, Easter Eggs: #1: Gosalyn using crossbows and arrows like the original Gosalyn and her superhero alter-ego Quiverwing Quack #2: Gosalyn was holding Darkwings gas gun in the tower #3: In DW's closet there was the galvanizer which in the original split Darkwing into a good DW and an evil DW which shot the evil DW a second time that turned him into the galvanized Negaduck I'm sure there was others but I don't remember them atm but as much as I loved the episode I was disappointed with some things, which I'll list. Things that made me go Noooo!!: #1: Quackerjack didn't say his catchphrase which I was waiting for the whole episode "It's Play Time!!" just before he unleashes some deadly toy. #2: They skipped the Liquidator's fight scene with DW, Launchpad, and Gosalyn and we only get to hear about it slightly :( #3: They sent the fearsome four back to their dimension instead of them escaping and staying to be DW's new enemies to deal with in the future #4: I was expecting Jim Starling A.K.A the new Negaduck to show up at the end and recruit the fearsome four to make the fearsome five. I had already thought he would show up and they would mistake him for DW and he'd get mad pull out a chainsaw and say he's not that goodie goodie DW. Then his shadow would tower over the four that are now hugging each other cowering as he says "You losers are working for me now!!" and cue evil laughter. Other than that I loved the episode!
This episode was probably the thing I was most excited for ever since it was announced. IT. DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT!!!!!!! Not only did they make an amazing Darkwing story (and finally had Gosalyn meet the Triplets) but it also finally revealed FOWL which is gonna make the rest of the season insane!! Amazing job Disney!!!!!
My favorite unexpected nod was the reference to Solego, the antagonist of the "Legend of the Chaos God" multi-part comic storyline that ran in Disney Adventures Magazine and encompassed TaleSpin, Chip N' Dale, Goof Troop, DuckTales, and Darkwing Duck in a single crossover. (Incidentally, if anyone reading this has never read/heard of that story before, Fantagraphics will be putting it out in Volume 1 of their new "Disney Afternoon Adventures" series next year. It's a hardcover collection and you can even already pre-order it on Amazon!)
I enjoyed this episode and the fact gizmoduck is getting love from the citizens than darkwing. And they kept the team dynamic of the darkwing familly and hoping we get justice ducks especially Morgana. maybe even a weird nod to mighty ducks.
But did you catch the super obscure Solego reference? Huey mentions him at one point. He was the villain in the Disney Adventures comic Legend of The Chaos God, which was a crossover between all of the Disney Afternoon shows.
Great review of a great episode. I lost it when Gosalyn hummed the "Little Girl Blue" lullaby to Darkwing. Great writing, and a spinoff series would be amazing. Looking forward to the Animaniacs reboot too!
I'd love to point out that I learned from watching Seaniccus' review that the random Solego guy that Huey talks about with the circuit is also a character that appeared in the disney afternoon comics and apparently he's a chaos god that was the villain of a massive crossover story which may hark back to the the whole different dimensions thing huey mentions. I thought that was so interesting to have such an obscure cameo and it really shows how much research and heart they put into this show
If they do a spinoff I just want Darkwing to be more competent. Like how Donald was when Don Cheadle did his voice. Make him almost Batman. Less self absorbed. He can still be accident prone but also be a capable combatant.

I hated that Bushroot was a mindless zombie here. I know the original voice actor passed away and they wanted to honor him, but they could've done more with the character.
They went the zombie path because Frank Agones said when he was a kid he was terrified of Bushroot in the Twin Beaks episode were we see his rotting body with blank eyes.

The slick reference that broke MY brain that I don't know if anyone caught. But when Dewey was playing around and yelling "SMOKE BOMB", they were making a freaking reference to Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja, whos voice actor was DEWEY!! I DIED!
I didn’t watch Duck Tales growing up, so I didn’t have any expectations for the reboot, but I am now OBSESSED with this show. I just think it’s so well-written an executed and super fun. I even lowkey feel the episode QuackPack does a better job than Wanda Vision doing a creepy stuck-in-a-retro-sit-com show plot. and ya I knoooow they’re super different mediums and one is short-form and the other is stretched over several episodes, but I stand by it lol
Loved Darkwing Duck back in the day. Fun to watch it and then go watch Batman the Animated Series. So based on your musing at the end, we should be hoping for a Freakazoid show to come back on? :-) And I've always been disappointed that Disney has never brought in their original superhero in any of these shows. A hero who had over 70 issues of his own comic book! I'm talking about Super Goof! Bring him back Disney! Wiki Super Goof is Goofy's superhero alter ego. His powers are similar to those of Superman. Contents[show] Background Whenever Goofy eats Super Goobers (peanuts), he gains incredible powers and assumes the identity of Super Goof, a heroic (albeit, still very clumsy) version of himself. His costume consists solely of a red union suit and a blue cape (which appear out of seemingly nowhere whenever Goofy eats a goober and change back to his regular clothes when the powers wear off). Humorously, despite the fact that Super Goof does not wear a mask, few can actually tell that Goofy and Super Goof are the same person, a likely parody of Superman's poor yet effective means to conceal his identity. Super Goof's secret identity is known only to his nephew Gilbert, who also calls himself Super Gilly on occasion. As Super Goof, Goofy's rogues consisted of classic Disney antagonists such as the Phantom Blot, Pete, and Emil Eagle. Comic relief in the stories would spring from the fact that Super Goof's powers would "wear off" at the least opportune moments, such as when he was flying or in need of super strength. Goofy always kept a few Super Goobers in his hat, but would occasionally forget to restock, leading to situations in which he would have to get out of trouble without the super powers. In a crossover story, Huey, Dewey, and Louie found a Super Goober plant sprouted by a dropped goober, and "borrowed" Super Goof's powers; after doing a round of super deeds, the ducks' powers faded, and they had to be rescued by the Junior Woodchucks.

They even make obscure references to the comic series. It's really brief but the episode mentions a Dr. Solego that was the precursor scientist to look into the tech of the RAMROD and, after looking into things there myself, turns out Solego was the main antagonist of a huge crossover comic between Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Chip N' Dale's Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop and Talespin. My mind was blown. The writers and producers of this show deserves an award for putting together an excellent reboot, not just treading and wading through the success of it's predecessor but most of the time exceeding it, sometimes by leaps and bounds. My forever favorite would have to be the Duck Knight Returns. Edgar Wright with a cameo appearance as Alistair Boorswan and one of the best executed Hero/Villain different sides of the same coin type origin stories. Woo, chills.
Greetings from Sweden! I flipped so hard when I saw this episode, I had to pause it several times to rewatch things I missed. Loved, loved, loved it! I am a second generation Donald Duck fan so I was basically born to watch and appreciate the series and movies the show. I didn't remember the Liquidator from the original show. I don't know if I just missed that episode or if he turned up in the part of the series that got cancelled over here. A few kids got hurt and one was killed in Sweden and Norway, and media and parents blamed a bunch of violent television series, like Power Rangers and Darkwing Duck. I was too young to realize why it just disappeared from the air. My baby brain just thought they would pick it up some other time, and went on watching the other afternoon specials (which aired on Fridays with other Disney shorts and series called Disney Time or Disney Club). I'm trying to catch up on the episodes to truly enjoy the reboot to my nerdy hearts content.
everyone needs to watch Duck Tales so it can have better ratings so this show can continue, get a full Darkwing Duck show, full Rescue Rangers show and more!
The video was great, and it caught me up on a few missed references. There was no mention that the voice actor for Jim Starling (TV Darkwing) and Negaduck was Jim Cummings. He played DD, Negaduck and several other characters in the original series. It also seems worth saying that it amused me how they made the Jim Starling character a parody of Adam West.
How about the fact that the key circuit for the Ramrod was called the Solego Circuit, which is a reference to the old "Legend of the Chaos God" crossover comic special that was in the old Disney Adventures magazine?
I remember one of the scariest episodes of Bushroot back in the day was "Night of the Living Spud." It scared the crap out of me as a kid. Bushroot always had that potential to be a terrifying villain.

I loved this episode! It was great to see Darkwing Duck back in action! I love that in the reboot he's really just an actor who plays DW in a movie and becomes the hero.
I watched this episode with my lil sister and friend through zoom. My sister and I are huge fans of the original Saturday cartoons while my friend didn't even know the triplets names. She just got into the fandom like 6 months ago. So basically the night turned out like this. My sister and I screaming at the top of our lungs at every easter egg, constantly pausing the video to name the easter eggs, and gushing and fan girling so hard it took us 2 hours to finish the show. All while my friend sat there utterly confused as to why we're screaming about a banana puppet. 😂
