The story behind this hymn/song is important. John Newton wrote the words from personal experience; he grew up without any particular religious conviction, He was pressed ( conscripted) into service with the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy. When he ended his Newton began studying Christian theology and later became an abolitionist. He was ordained in the Church of England in 1764, and began to write hymns with poet William Cowper. "Amazing Grace" was written to illustrate a sermon on New Year's Day of 1773.

Amazing Grace is special to me and my journey with Jesus Christ aka Almighty God. It is by His Grace that I am saved and not by my own works lest I should boast. There is no other way to salvation and eternity in Heaven. It's the Jesus way only!!!!

But after getting home from 21 months in Vietnam my mind has been scattered but God delivered my bride and for the last 40 years she has been my rock and salvation. Exactly. It's like a learning a new language. We can learn to communicate pretty well in that language, but this guy is fluent in piano. He doesn't have to think about translating the words, he just knows the words.

28 to 1 in the likes/dislikes category. Well there's a 1000 sorry-ass people that will have a rude awakening one day. I'm a traditionalist and don't like classic stuff being messed with. Amazing Grace is my absolute favorite. BUT, DANG that was good. I mean it was better than good. It was no doubt, hands down THE ABSOLUTE best rendition EVER!!! Thanks man, whoever you are.
