Dudley had so much talent. Musician, comedian, actor. Good to see him on such good form here before he became ill. It wasn't long after that he started to show symptoms of the awful disease that eventually took him.
I had man love for this guy!!Broke my heart when he became ill the way he did and of course eventually succumbed to that horrible illness. He didn't deserve that end...after how much he entertained us through the yearsMiss you Dud x x always
Gifted talented man was Dudley. If there is a Heaven , Derek and Clive will still be rambling there making laughter. Pete and Dud. Missed but not forgotten.
That run of improvised gags that starts with "concertos.. concerti" then goes to "Tescos .. Tesci" then on to declining the verb "to Tesc", then "rejected name" then "Don't Cry for Me..". So impressive. It's that intelligent funny English wit you see in Cook and Cleese and Fry.
Yes I am aware of that and a lot more, even seen him live several times & am a devoted fan of them both. However your comment doesn't answer mine. I think only he can/could
@@simontaylor2319 I heard him commenting once about performing a concert recital . Bach or somebody. He said that hours , weeks maybe months of practice was needed. Dudley was not that type of musician , the reason that many first class players delve into Jazz , Oddly later in their career the lure of classical music attracts them . Oscar Peterson and Sir George Shearing are just two that could adapt.
Dudley, a national treasure. Brilliant comedian, jazz pianist and actor. RIP. Clive Anderson - crap interviewer who cannot stop talking over his guests.
@@MrDaiseymay Just a shame he couldn't refrain from demonstrating his "sharp wit" occasionally. He cut Dud off and interrupted some potential gems there. You can tell he was a lawyer - always had to have the last word.
This was 1989, 5 years before the memory loss issues started. His 1995 interview with The Independent is the first in which his problems became apparent to the interviewer.
I wished Clive let Dudley talk a bit more instead of jumping in mid sentence and breaking up the flow. But I supposed this is what a Lawyer does. So infuriating.
Clive Anderson is such a GIT. Dudley has been around the block many times and stays professional but really....the 'gotta be on' gag didn't go unnoticed over here.
It's only in recent years that I've realised that Clive Anderson tried to make interiews more about himself than his guests, but he couldn't outdo Dud.
The My Mum Song was comedy gold but at the same time quite ridiculous or even dark.I think he was just trying to out do Cook who was being awful to him
Trouble with Anderson is he thinks he's so clever that he can compete with the guests... he's Mr nowhere now...no wonder the beegees walked out and left him because he insulted them....he hasn't watched parky or Carson to learn the craft of interviewing folk.....
The problem with Dudley is that he was always on stage. When he became ill those Hollywood types were no where to be found. He died alone and a painful death.
His Hollywood friends did not desert him. When it was learned that his 4th wife was about to release a book accusing him of all sorts of perversions and abuse, his friends rallied around to defend him, quick to say that SHE was the one on drugs always looking to make money in nefarious ways. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and they made it clear that he was a humble and cherished friend.
Not so, chuck frost. His Hollywood friends gave him a loving tribute, which showed how much he was adored. It can be seen here on RU-vid. He was obviously touched by their caring.
