Totally agree!! I see Jaden stepping up more as well this team is ridiculously deep and versatile. I'm sorry but I really believe that the National Championship is ours this year
I was not impressed by the defense whatsoever in this scrimmage. Foster looked like he did in HS not actively defending the ball handler. Watch every clip with Jeremy Roach defending. Same old same old!!!! It’s just like the regular season. He can’t defend if his family’s life depended on it. Guards get around him so easily it’s shameful. He looks like he will average better than 34% from 3 this year finally. I was impressed by Proctor finishing over the rim and his shooting is much improved. Mark Mitchell dominating on defense and still very accurate from 3 on the left wing (he struggled from 3 on the right wing last year). Jaden Schutt is going to earn some minutes this year. If guys have bad nights he is going to go in. I’m more curious to see how well Stewart finishes at the rim when Kyle is in the game. The guys he’s beating in practice isn’t a reliable indicator for him for the regular season with deeper front courts.
@@Jamaal1 😅😅😅. But we did see defense. Mark, Blakes, McCain, did you even watch kid??? Haha I know we get a lot of low IQ people on RU-vid but Jesus do you even know what this video is kid??? Maybe you do need an essay…. I just wouldn’t trust you’d know how to interpret it 😂😂😂. They are filming a live practice, but we get to see how they compete in the 5v5 scrimmage. Practice is what gets you in the game. Scrimmages tell you who from Practice gel, who your weaknesses and strengths are, guys you should play more than the other. Yo kid!!!! You still awake????? 😅😅😅
I really like what I saw from Proctor and McCain. McCain has a great feel for the game, has mastered the Nash dribble under the rim and find the cutter pass, and looked in general like the best decision maker out there. And Proctor...whew... can't spell Proctor without PRO. By far the most confident player on the court
I think McCain is a fantastic player and could be the most talented on the team but I think he looked a little timid out there today. It’ll be interesting to see how they could balance the play of so many guards, many of whom could be the best player on most d1 basketball teams
Things I’ve noticed: 1) Proctor is nasty. If his jumper is consistently on, he’s a threat to shoot or drive 2) Stewart should definitely see the floor. He is much bigger and athletic that I had seen in the past. 3). McCain and Foster, if allowed to penetrate, will be just fine. 4). Mark Mitchell is doing Mark Mitchell things. You just cannot put a price on what he brings. He’s the glue guy that takes us deep into March. 5). If Ryan starts hitting a 3pt shot with regularity….Yikes. And all this….all this without Flip. Goodness gracious.
Stop mentioning roach 🪳 he suck ass and won’t be starting this year McCain is our 2 guard and proctor will run the show .. roach couldn’t get drafted bc he’s small and can’t defend to save his life
Sean Stewart is looking good! If he can crash the boards and finish strong like we’re seeing here, he’ll be so valuable to this team. Also, I saw no TJ Power highlights. Just a couple times where he was physically outmatched in the paint. Hope we see more from him, or he’ll be at the end of the bench.
Stewart looks like a star Its going to be hard to manage the minutes this season. Hopefully some of these guys are fine with riding the bench and coming back to star next year.
@@cameronbolden5064 I think mccain is slightly better shooter but it’s not far off as people think. I think foster is better on ball and mccain is better on ball but there good enough to switch on and off
Proctor Looks Like Best Player on the DUKE team with Stewart potentially being a Big Contributor inside. Mitchell, Young and Roach Look Solid. McCain looks Raw and Schutt will be still fighting for minutes. Head Coach Scheyer has said this DUKE team will play at a higher tempo with some three Guard lineups which will require a 9-10 player rotation.
Everything is money except roach , judging by this video he doesn’t look like a starter and I’m glad is should be proctor and McCain roach can run second unit off the bench I’m sick of his carelessness and turnover Ratio .. it’s a reason why NO ONE contacted him when trying to get drafted that’s why he came back I’m hoping he improved but his smart frame won’t get him pass college hoops
I hope Duke can work Schutt into the lineup this year. His shooting looks very good. On the defensive side, work on keeping those drives out of the paint. Excited about this season!
Proctor is definitely on another level confidence and became a better athlete... Stewart is and Flip is gonna be fun duo. He gets off the ground with such ease. Like a young Blake Griffin
Proc needs to learn to be aggressive like he was from the jump. He only hits another gear once he gets a few but once he does damn. No one stopping that man
Stewart finally showed in this video what I've been screaming about, big fella is gonna bring Cameron to its feet with these stick back dunks! Reeves had some good and some bad, seeing Young fake him and blow right by him was pretty discouraging considering we all know Ryan is definitely not quick footed(definitely not trying to knock Ryan, he knows he's not built for speed) but I can see the big man has been working hard. They have to get him to stop putting the ball down low, keep that ball up high big fella, catch then make your move and dominate Christian. Didn't see much of Powers in this video as the video from a few days ago where he looked so good but I expect a very good season for him, Although in that video rookies vs Vets the Vets was short handed with no Roach,Mitchell, Reeves,Blake's so I feel the competition was definitely at a higher level in this video. Proctor absolutely looks smooth, his handles look even better along with his body control and the young man can shoot from anywhere or get to the basket. McCain and Foster are walking buckets with very good defense. Young still knocking down 3s, I hear ya big guy. My dawg Roach is always gonna be the leader and the toughest dog in the fight. Blake's still giving 110% just like he has from day 1. Schutt shooting in these videos is looking good but he shot well in practice videos last season as well, definitely hope he has improved his defensive presence and can get in the games more this season and knock down some big time shots. Mitchell is that guy again, gonna shut you down on defense and he's gonna get to the basket and score or knock down a jumper. This team is loaded, I just hope they can mesh and play team basketball, got a lot of guys on this team that are used to being "the guy" on their former teams. Which is just another year of Duke basketball right? Always top talented teams in Durham but some have played better together than others. I think if these guys former a team 1st mentality and play together that they absolutely have a realistic chance at not only winning acc titles but making a deep run in the dance if not in fact being the last 1s standing on the dance floor. Thank you for all your hard work, blood, sweat and tears guys. Go get #6
This might be our yr. Good mixture of experience/leadership and youth. U can't have too much of either to be successful. We have both. And we're deep. And to think our best player wasn't even out there. Look out!!
We will be small and quick. Guys will prove their value and there should be no complaints. By season's end, two of those guards will be glued to the pine.
Jared ans Sean looking like best freshmen. It’s gonna be hard to manage minutes . This team def has the talent and depth it’s up to scheyer to manage them
Only thing I noticed was the shooting and spacing and driving lanes are much more open than last years squad. Duke is going to be hard to guard when you add Flip back in the picture
Do Duke fans care more about sending players to the NBA or winning championships? As a uconn fan it’s all about rings. Feel like Kentucky or Duke fans don’t care as much
You were impressed???? He looked clunky and slow. He made some finishes, but I didn’t see any flashes of rim protection at the 5. I was honestly disappointed.
Man, this team could literally do a two line change system! They are 12 deep! Starters: C/F: Flip F: MM G: Roach G: McCain G: Proctor Bench: C: Young F: Stewart SF: Power G: Foster G: Blakes Sadly, I think Schutt and Reeves will struggle to see anything more then 2-4 mins a game, if that! (ps. I love Schutt's form/shot)
The minutes distribution will be interesting this year. Guys like Flip, Mark, and Proctor are probably over 30 minutes a game which doesn't leave a lot of minutes in the frontcourt but I can't see how you keep Sean and Ryan from getting a lot of burn as well. In the backcourt you have so many options with Proctor, Roach, McCain, Foster, Schutt. Although I imagine Schutt isn't going to get many minutes even with high 3 guard lineup units. I think most of those minutes are going to previously listed guys and Power. I can't see how Reeves (who looks improve and is just huge), Schutt, nor Blakes will get many minutes this year. I hate to say it but I think Blakes probably should have hit the portal this year. He is going into his junior season with no prospects of starting and he has younger guys who are superior to him. I guess he could possibly get a lot of minutes as a senior if Duke lost Roach, Proctor, and the 2 freshman after this year but even in that scenario I would think Schutt would still be ahead of him and Duke would probably bring in backcourt help via the portal. I think Reeves will get some good minutes next year when Duke looses Ryan, Flip, Mark, and possibly Sean and even if we do get Bidunga and/or Ngongba.
I agree Blakes is the only weak link on this team in my opinion he's terrible. His so-called defense isn't worth the trade off on the offensive end. He's no Tre Jones defensively anyways
@@newme2325- his defense is really strong-especially on ball defense. He did have back to back ACC games of 17 point each going 7-10 from long range. Those were the only two games of the season when he took 7 or more FG. Point being, if he continues his natural progression, he can be a factor on both sides of the court. His obstacles are his backcourt teammates far more than his abilities.
Guys simply want the opportunity to fairly compete for time. True, Scheyer has tons of options but a couple of these guys will distinguish themselves above the crowd once the games begin (i.e. Flip on last year). If Reeves emerges as our best rim protector without being a liability on offense, then he will carve out minutes for himself. All these guys are confident of their abilities. Now let's see who performs when the lights are on.
Not bad. Typical Duke team. See y'all in the tournament. Cats Fan. Really love college ball and I've even lived in the Triangle but I bleed Kentucky blue from birth. Stay healthy.
This teams gonna be good. They’ve got veteran leadership, depth at the guard spot, athleticism and shot making on the wings and 3 bigs that can fill 3 different roles. Great looking squad.
POTENTIAL STARTING LINE UP PG: Proctor (obviously) SG:McCain SF: Mitchell PF:Big Flip C: Stewart or Young 6th man up: foster and then Roach Unless roach had some serious training this summer to improve his IQ I can not see him starting over McCain idc about seniority we need the best players on the court and judging by this video he plays more conservative as if he knows he’s not starting as much as we seen him as aggressive towards the basket we see more passing so with that being said we do not need another year with his turnovers in critical moments of the game sadly nobody wanted to draft him so he came back
Amir leavin 4 Boston hurt bckuz he was really wrkn wit da bigs since dat was his position at Duke. I think Reaves will kum aroun defensively jus not rite away dis yr. . Da returnin players has definitely shown growth since last yr. Stewart didn't have much plays kalld 4him n still got 10 pnts, Foster n looks like a bigger version of Roach. Not sure bout his shit yet. McCain looks like a yunger Proctor but bigger as a freshman. Dat dunk on by Proctor was wild. Schutt doesn't look lost n not hesitant 2 shoot.
With Roach and Proctor returning to handle the ball means so much especially when the season starts into late January. The ball movement is already looking great. Not to mention the absence of Powers and Flip from this most recent scrimmage footage….an injury free Duke team could have huge potential for a National Championship contender
I actually think Roach is going to be much more of a shooter this year.....From the looks of this scrimmage, the two starters that will handle to ball most will be Proctor/McCain. Hope Roach's 3pt% improves this year.
@@darakeaddy6678Mitchell stared at the 3 every game last year, it’ll probably be Proctor, Roach, Mitchell, Stewart, and Flip. I wouldn’t be suprised if Schyer started off the season with Ryan Young playing the 4 or 5 alongside Flip.
I like this team only concern is McCain or foster at the three rather play mark there n Sean at the 4. The 3 n 4 will be this team's problem with defending imo
