@@sabin97 It was the early 1800s, not 2000s, so you need to put things in perspective. He outlawed the international slave trade while he was president. Why didn't he free all his slaves at that time? I'm sure you can imagine it was for many reasons. But, he was very protective of his slaves and maybe that is part of why he didn't release them--and also, I'm sure, because he felt he needed them to do things for him. Presidents and ex-Presidents always feel like they are above the law or above their own ideals, just like all the liberals who don't do what they preach like Al Gore and John Kerry who speak about global warming while they fly everywhere in private planes and own multiple massive homes.

That was George. Pulling the curtain, lifting the carpet, showing us what we try to ignore (if I am being honest with myself). And his work is funny, very witty, well prepared. His rhymes and poems are sharp as well. But his later work always had these moments where he is trying to open eyes, more than create laughter. I think he knew his time was coming. RIP, Mr. Carlin. Your work will never die.
The late, great George Carlin. This is one of the greats and we are missing him these days....listen to some more, he's got some perspective. The truth is funny, and stranger than fiction. Oh, I wouldn't ever say you're stupid. Obviously not. You're right about teaching kids, it is up to us. We change the world through our children. Great reaction, please do some more....I think you'll enjoy Carlin.
@@RussianReactionReviews Awesome! I would definitely recommend "Baseball vs Football" and "Sports" since you said you like Football. Every one of his stand ups are hilarious.
My parents were born in the 20’s, lived trough the depression and the second world war. They knew what deprivation is and they passed that on to us. Finishing your plate was not a choice, it was an obligation. We ate mostly at home so we never got the chance to get fat.
I remember watching George Carlin when I was a senior in High School and his material never failed to make me both laugh and think. He was a true philosopher not just a comedian, his entire career is worth checking out if you want more to react to.
You're headed down the rabbit hole with Carlin. He had a very long career, from the late 60's to the 2000's. This is from a comedy special he did a few years before his death. He also has some great routines where he talks about the craziness of the English language you might enjoy.
Carlin was one of the best comics ever. Got to see him in person once in 1991, I was in high school and my dad scored tickets. Great show. He always spoke the truth, but made it funny.
I began listening to Carlin in the early 70s when I was young. He’s funny but really, it’s his social commentary that is so truthful and illustrative of the sicknesses that have always, to one degree or another, infected the culture. When I got to college, my American Literature professor asked on the first day how many in the class listened to George Carlin albums. Everybody raised their hands. The professor then began comparing and contrasting George Carlin with Mark Twain before assigning us The Gilded Age which Twain co-wrote. We then had to write a paper pointing out the similarities and contrasts with our favorite Carlin routine. George Carlin is/was my generation’s Mark Twain. It’s remarkable how relevant both are to today’s America. The more America changes, the more it stays the same. If you like George Carlin’s social commentary then, read Mark Twain. The river novels (Tom Sawyer books) are funny, fun, and are as sharp as a razor blade in their commentary. Twain’s short stories are treasures as well.
I enjoyed your review and reaction to George Carlin's message. We need more women like you in this country -- intelligent, witty, takes care of herself, practical, and a beautiful person. First skit I’ve heard was the one about the words you can’t say on TV 😂😂😂 for a kid who wasn’t allowed to use that language it was funny to listen to. As I got older I watched more and more and it’s obvious to see why he was a legend. You are right that leasing is like renting but, when you lease and at the end of your lease, it is not yours. You have to refinance it to then buy it if you wish, or, turn it in to the bank once the lease is done and pay for any over mileage and damages.
Your perspective on American's buying on Credit is spot on. My parents taught my siblings and I about Economic responsibility and planning for the future. My parents weren't rich by any means but they lived very comfortably and had a very nice home, cars and belongings. They traveled extensively. I took to heart what I was taught. I joined the Military at age 19. I saved money every pay day, practiced restraint and bought things with cash, used credit wisely and invested cautiously. I retired from the military in 2001at age 40. I have zero credit card debt, own my vehicles and home outright. I have not worked since 2002. I consider myself very Blessed and thankful for the life's lessons my parents taught. I have always tried to impart this knowledge on my own children and to many young troops who I worked with. Both my children are home owners and financially stable with college educations and great jobs. I hope they too will pass on this knowledge.

When Carlin starts talking about Consumption, it reminded me of Fight Club. It's a movie based on the book of the Portland, Oregon author Chuck Palanuik. "Advertising has us working jobs we hate, so we can buy shit we don't need." There's modern America for you...

You seem like a genuinely kind person, Irina :) I enjoy hearing your insight and perspective and appreciate how you can always see two sides to everything:)
You're from Russia! How can YOU say we can't change things? Of course we can. If enough people stand up and make pressure a system can change! I do not say that one is better than the other that's another discussion. I just say that people can change the world they live in!
She's from Russia, not from Mars. Nobody can change politics, not in this day and age. Every government have every bit of information about you that they want and you or anybody else's going to change it. People can change their lives, sure. And if everybody change, perhaps the world can. But again, if everybody does! I do my part but I'm very well aware that I'm an outstanding minority. I keep doing it because it's who I am and I like it, but I after living in 5 countries and 3 continents, I can count the number of people that wanted to change the world, or at least their own world, in a single hand. It's utterly sad, but it's true nonetheless.
I really like hearing your comments on these videos. You are a sensible and thoughtful person, and seem to have proper living figured out. Keep posting.
george carlin was one of those comedians that could get away with saying anything. but back then in general i think people knew that it was unhealthy but we were doing it anyway. i kind of grew up poor so the eat everything on your plate rule was always a thing except in restaurants because they give too much food and restaurants were more of a special occasion in my family. and i guess i kind of still see it that way haha.
This segment by George Carlin has shaped my life in an incredible way. He's absolutely right about all of it. I think more Americans are waking up to it, but far too many, both left and right, Democrat and Republican, still have this asinine belief the system can be fixed from within. You're going to do incredibly well if you keep the late George Carlin's words close to your heart.

I like that you immediately identified with what he was saying. It tells me you have a sharp mind. That bit was from George's last HBO special. By that point he had transcended comedian status and had become a great American philosopher, like Mark Twain before him. His insights were so acute, and so damning, that any rational person couldn't help but sit up and take notice. His comedic genius was such that he knew the point where his audience was about to spiral down the drain of rueful realization, he'd make 'em laugh. Raising their spirits so he could draw them further along. He was an iconoclast of life. Subscribed.
@@RussianReactionReviews He has 40 years of material posted on youtube, a great deal of which is not cynical at all. I highly recommend you explore it all. The 1970s were his drug culture years. Pure gold.
A friend of mine introduced me to George when I was maybe 13. I consider his stand up shows a good part of my intelligence and a outraged my awareness of what is really going on in parts of our world. Not just by telling me and I follow but by enhancing my curiosity about everything and to question and research everything. Then I form my opinion or understanding of things. I miss him being in our world still but I’m glad we got to have him hang out with us on this big rock we’re floating on even if it was just for the short time we had him. May I add I’m impressed that not only you understood the things he was talking about because many American born citizens aren’t able to notice the things he talks about but also that it hasn’t discouraged you or darkened your view of this country. Thank you.
As George Carlin did say I hate to spoil your fun but-there’s no such thing as rights, okay? They’re imaginary. We made them up! Like the Boogie Man… the Three Little Pigs, Pinocchio, Mother Goose, shit like that. Rights are an idea, they’re just imaginary, they are a cute idea, cute… but that’s all, cute, and fictional. But if you think you do have rights, let me ask you this, where do they come from? People say, well, they come from God, they’re God-given rights… Aw fuck, here we go again… here we go again. [laughing] The God excuse. The last refuge of a man with no answers and no argument, it came from God. Anything we can’t describe, must have come from God.

The US was not like this when I was young. The suburban sprawl started in the 1980s. Fast food everywhere. Portion-size escalated in the 1990s. It's all fairly recent. My grandparents, who grew up during the Great Depression, also made sure we ate everything on the plate. Things have changed a lot due to commercialism, corporatism.
@@thethegreenmachine true, the suburbs started soon after WWII, and built up over several decades... I think I was referring more to the shopping malls, strip malls, fast food joints... almost none of those things existed where I lived when I was a young child, but took off in the early '80s
totally agree with you, in Scotland in the 1980s, we were taught to fix things. I learned how to sew my clothes back together, how to keep my winter boots in good condition...but now it's "buy buy buy MORE!".....but, why would you "buy now, pay later"? ..that means YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT
I grew up in the US in the 80s with the same mentality. We didn't have the money to constantly buy new things unless it was absolutely necessary. Unfortunately some of the blame is on the current culture, but much is on the throw away manufacturing of products now. Major products aren't built to be repaired when they fail now and many times fixing something costs almost as much as buying a new one. Products are produced as cheaply as possible then sold at insane markups for maximum profits for the company.
Your absolutely right about education. It's all about test scores, and other metrics. Little to no focus on actually knowing and understanding things. My Mother was a 7th/8th grade teacher who complained her whole career about not being able to actually teach history, because they were constantly making sure they were prepared for the big test.
Irina....I watch a little every day. George Carlin was a truth-teller....hard truths. From when he was young. On youtube there are much older shows. He is an amazing "social critic", comic doesn't describe him. He is irreverent, naughty....but honest. You are a bright and energetic social critic too....by presenting Carlin. Good for you.....Larry
You have so much common sense, it is truly refreshing. Hearing your views about the fancy car or house story, it makes me realize how far our own people have fallen.
Just stumbled onto your channel. I thought this should be good, a Russian reacting to my favorite comedian/philosopher, George Carlin. I was pleasantly surprised, so now you have a new subscriber. More Carlin, please!?
You will find that all humor is found in unspoken truths. The more unspoken, contentious, and forbidden the truth, the funnier the joke about it. Some of the best comedy found in speaking the "unspeakable."
My folks gave me good life lessons, but there was no way they could teach me science. We need quality education, but as Carlin said our owners hate the idea of intelligent Americans. The worst part is that some of the smartest people still fall for the lie that is America today.
We also take home fast food we don't finish. In restaurants, however, it usually depends if they allow that. It really surprised me too when I discovered that there are people who just leave their unfinished meals and say, "You can just buy some again tomorrow". People who think like that are people who don't worry about their money.
You're right regarding parents informing children. I saw George Carlin when I was 14 or 15. For a while, I was a teacher. This is interesting watching an immigrant from Russia comment on Mr. Carlin. Very well done, Ms. RR&R
This is the first time I have come across your channel and videos and first, I want to say you are very pretty and have a nice voice to listen too :) I grew up in a family that didn't have much and we got by with what we had and did the best we could to make sure that whatever food we had to eat, it didn't go to waste, but also to make sure that we didn't get into any bad habits of eating more food than we necessary, so to try and be as balanced and healthy as possible. The sad thing is that nowadays, many people take too many things for granted and either wind up eating more than they need or some people wind up with mental health issues like depression and sometimes would eat more food as a form of coping mechanism for a sense of comfort, but not realising that they are putting their own physical health at risk, which can be a difficult cycle to break. Balance by moderation seems to be the key to everything in life, but can be easier said than done and in this day and age, more people seem to be pressured by corporate advertising, etc, to try and life a lifestyle that is essentially goes against basic human nature. Great video review, reaction and discussion and you have a new like and subscriber from me. Have a great day and may you always be blessed.
Great commentary. Might I suggest Carlin's " Save the Planet" , love to see your commentary on that one. Your insight on debt is on target, debt IS slavery. Think about it, you can drive an 80k car for 2k fee plus $500 a month. Insane.
George Carlin was brilliant and a philosopher who could always make you think critically. And you are getting better with your English with every video you post! Keep it up.
It depends. As an American raised in a poor working class family, I was taught at a young age to not waste food on my plate too. So I was just as shocked as you when I got older and saw other families not care about throwing away food. Usually those families had more money, but not always. Generally I agree with his comedic insights though. One of my favorite comedians.
It's funny, I just watched this Carlin video the other day (I suppose that's why this is in my recommended), and I really enjoyed watching you react to it. Very glad to see you see this country that way. I was born in the USA and I was raised with the same mentality you’re thinking and glad to seen others thinking the same way
It's been said many times: George Carlin was not a comedian. He was a philosopher with a sense of humor. I admire that you were taught to eat what is on your plate. I was raised by parents who lived through the Great Depression and World War Two. I also was taught to eat all my food "because people are starving in Europe". --- But....
