Dumb Things I Did in Pokémon as a Kid! 

While I've done some pretty dumb stuff as a kid playing Pokemon, like wasting my masterball on some arbok, and trying to solo run the game with my starter. I don't think any of it compares to my friend taking a month to find the first gym in X and Y, and he isn't a kid which makes it even more embarrassing.

I was playing Emerald back when I was like, 7, and came across a shiny Kyogre, but since it was pink, I thought it was girl. Being the sexist little shit I was, I wanted a blue "boy" Kyogre, so I RESET THE GAME AND REENTERED THE FIGHT. It still keeps me up at night.

One of the dumb things I did as a kid was raising a Vulpix to level 99 in Pokemon Silver without ever evolving it, because I had no idea I needed a fire stone for that, and I thought some Pokemon just don't want to evolve, just like Ash's Pikachu.

I never taught my Pokemon any stat changing moves, because I thought they sucked.

I was a stupid child. I used to think that all Pokemon were made at the SAME TIME. Gens 1-5, I thought they were all made at the same time. No seperate generations, no anything. I was playing through Soul Silver and I went; "I WANT SNIVY AS MY STARTER WHERE IS SHE?!" *god i was such a dumb kid*

A dumb thing I did and still do (I'm a little impatient) is I know what happens when you talk to nurse joy, so what I do is I just spam the a button over and over and end up in this annoying bb endless cycle of healing my pokemon xD

I was a smart kid in Pokémon... And after I caught shinies in Ruby, I went to Pokémon Blue and tried to get a shiny Scyther. I didn't know that the GameBoy didn't have color, and yet somehow when I traded the Scyther I caught to Silver... It was shiny

i did worse so because i did not know english i just tought my pokemon everymove i could give em so that meant HM moves to that meant lvl100 inferape with Rocksmash, Rockclimb, cut and Strenght what a great move set :D

i used my master bal on a bidoof (thinking u could buy another) and i called the bidoof a smiley face emoji

I did a ton of stupid stuff in black/white: -I taught my Samurott only Hms -I released the Cobalion that I caught with the master ball because I thought you get the pokeball back. -I didn't realize Cobalion was legendary -I could never catch Virizion or Terrakion because my Samurott was too OP pls nerf -I called myself the triple battle master because I could beat that one guy in Ocupecild city. -I thought EXP points were based on if your Pokemon has already seen their combatant, which I thought was why my lvl. 80 Samurott gained 51 Exp -I used legendaries to beat the elite four. Not really dumb I'm a kid -in black, I got stuck on burgh because I had a lv. 11 Pansear and my Servine was the highest level - I chose Snivy because "it looks cute" -I think I forgot fusion bolt on Zekrom - I thought I was special/lucky for catching Zekrom in an ultra ball There's probably more stupid things I did

As a kid, and even now. The dumbest thing I did and still do is when I'm at the pokemon center, I would spam A on Nurse Joy, before I realized she healed my pokemon more than once.

So with the Three Birds in my firered. I always caught Moltres because i used my master ball on it, never caught articuno because i honestly didnt want it and my pokemon were too strong to weaken it without killing it. And with Zapdos, he was my true goal. i always wanted Zapdos, but i had the opposite problem than with articuno. my pokemon were too weak to weaken him without dying. side story: growing up there was an abandoned building with a smoke stack on a hill where a grew up, it looked like a power plant so it always thlught Zapdos lived there, and when i passes the build, i told myself some day I'll catch him! it has since been demolished to build an indoor skydiving place. :*( liek if u crii evrytyme

I first played Pokemon blue when I was 6 (I couldn't read very well then). I got stuck in Fuchsia City because I didn't understand that I was suppose to go to the Safari zone. Then I spent all my money on revives because I thought it was rabies shots (couldn't read) and was worried that my Pokemon were sick. When i found out that I was suppose to go to the safari zone I couldn't afford it. I had nothing to sell and there were no trainers for me to fight. Tried grinding Meowths that used payday but ended up having to restart the game.

The two majorly stupid things I did as a kid was:1. Let my aunt play my game, only to find out later that she had saved over my old game and I had just started going down victory road for the first time.2. I shut my game off when I ran into a shiny tentacool, not knowing you were supposed to catch shiny pokemon. Bonus round: Another really stupid thing I did was that for whatever reason I felt like my character looked like a janitor, and every time the player sprite moved around he was sweeping up invisible dirt, so I spent an immense amount of time "cleaning" every single square my character could stand on. And the really sad thing about that is that I was kind of OCD about numbers too. So if I ended up "cleaning" an entire route or town and landed on an odd number, I would do it over again to make it even.

I remember one time I was fighting in one of the first routes and I found a Metapod. In my head that was one badass pokemon that would become a beast. I caught him and went facing other trainers. Somehow I ended up only with the Metapod fighting against a Metapod. I don't know how it happened but it was an amazing Harden battle.

Once i had a chespin i named Grassy and i thought it was so cute that i never wanted to evolve it but then i accidentally let it evolve into a Quilladin so i had to make it evolve because i did not want that abomination on my team and chesnaught is awesome, another thing that happened is that when i didn't know ANYTHING about type advantages, i would just base the pokemon's weaknesses on my knowledge on what would happen to certain things if you were to use that move. (Example, If you were to bite grass then the grass would be destroyed)

All the way up to a Charzard that's hilarious.

I didn't understand the concept of Carpet=Doorway and couldn't leave the house until my cousin showed me. (There were no arrows in Gen 1)

My stupidest Mistake was when i was younger on Pokemon Diamond, I wasted the Master Ball on a chimecho, Right when i was traveling up Mt. Coronet to fight Dialga.

Well I thought that when you healed at nurse joy your hp rose in the stats. So I sat healing for 2 hours, not 1 hp

I was standing afk for about 2days thinking i was hatching an egg -.-

I used a rare candy hack to get my Squirtle levelled up before my rival battle and before I got a pokédex. It evolved and the kept stopping evolving I was like WTF!?!?!!?

Heh, I got lost in Pokemon games a lot as well. Not really because I skipped the text (I actually read it very thoroughly) but rather because when it comes to exploring I have the attention span of Jack Skellington (jumps from thing to thing "What's this? What's this?" )

I didn't know how to save either and solo run with my starter. When I learned to save I stopped doing stupid things.

I think the dumbest things I did was either over level my starter and nobody else... I'd have like a level 60 something starter at the elite four and like a bunch of level 20 somethings and under. And the other dumb thing is I would try my hardest to not run into trainers. I would walk around them and all this stuff just so I didn't have to battle them.

When I was a kid I used to think repels had timers on them so when I activated a repel I would just sprint across the grass lol

I remember that I never knew you could switch the pokemon in your party so I stayed till like the 4th gym with my starter in the front of the party

One of my favorites while playing Pokemon Yellow happend because of language barrier. As a kids me and my brother knew only the very basics of english (and as can you read, it still isn't perfect). It was enough to understand majority from main plot, so we weren't just randomly smashing buttons of GBA, but at some point we had a huge problem. It was when we went to Cerulean City for the first time. We stuck there (i can't remember why) and were desparately looking for some way out. And then, looking through inventory, we found "awakening". We were, like, 12 and 9 yo at the moment, and again - knowing english only on basic level, so we red this item's name as "akwening". It souned like related to water, so we were sure that one can swim using this akwening thing (we didn't know that later in the game we'll learn surf). So we tried many, maaaany times to somehow use this item near water but nothing ever happend. Eventually, we solve our problem with Cerulean city and moved on, but till Safari Zone we still thought that awakening will allow us to swim. And of course, when our pokemons went asleep we had to either wait till they wake up or go to neares Pokemon Center to heal them :P

I thought my game crashed when I was 10 and playing Pokemon emerald, my Pokemon where poisoned and the little blocks freeked me out

I had a similar experience to yours with Zapdos, except mine was with Moltres. I was in Victory Road, all my Pokemon at low health & I'm just focused on finding the exit. I travel down a ladder, only to find an overworld bird sprite. So I think, "Huh, what's this?" and talk to it. BOOM! Battle with Moltres. I was completely unprepared, so I ran away, reasoning "Well, it was just waiting here, so it will be here in the future." I didn't see the sprite afterward, so I was a little concerned. Later, I run into Marowak. I'm ecstatic because I though Marowak was rare, having only encountered the ghost of one before in Pokemon Tower. I remembered being unable to catch it then, but I really wanted this one. I manage to catch it. Then I saved my game. I didn't know that was my only chance to catch Moltres, and so prioritized a Marowak, which had story significance.

When I was really young, I had a racing game (forgot what it was) and I was in the settings menu, I found the reset data button, I clicked it and cried for literally 30 minutes. Then later on in my life I 100%ed that game from the start.

I was another one of those kids who solo'd it with my starter (charmander), but I had no difficulties beating gyms with type advantages because I over trained. I remember that the elite four where a pain, and no matter how high I leveled my poor charizard I was finding it hard to progress past the first two elite four members. finally, after grinding for an unknown number of hours I had A lv 100 charizaed before I beat the elite four.

For 2 years I didn't know how to save, get on my level!

The stupidest thing I did was try to defeat Lance in Pokémon Gold using a Bayleef holding an Everstone. I then got so frustrated that I *released my Bayleef* not knowing why my strategy didn't work. D'oh! And then I just cheated by using a team of 6 cloned Mewtwo.

Heres some dumb things I did a few years ago... 1. Over leveled my starter (First game was HeartGold) 2. Taught it all firetype moves (I picked Cyndaquil) 3. Went into that dark cave (forgot the name) without flash and wandered around for an hour trying to get out. 4. Bred an army of pidgys for some reason... 5. Spent days trying to beat Whitney with just my Quilava. 6. And a bunch of other dumb stuff I forgot. Now for my second game. I clearly hadn't learned anything in the first one. 1. Over leveled starter again (Tepig) 2. All fire type moves... again... 3. Never used any other pokemon 4. Wasted my master ball on a garbodor (WTF WAS WRONG WITH ME) Yeah that's it pretty much...

there's that one time when i was a kid while i was playing pokemon emerald where i tried really hard to reach that underwater cave on the route with the sea current that you have to access in order to unlock the regis. i spent hours surfing through the current trying to reach the spot, and when i finally did, the first time i saw the cave with the braille i freaked out because it looked so scary to me, since i didn't know what braille was back then. on top of that, my older brother made fun of me and told me it was a glitch, which scared me even more. eventually, i got over my fear and actually translated the braille using the alphabet in the instruction booklet, but i never found out what it was for until years later... i also used to teach my main team hm moves because i didn't think about getting hm slaves, it was always painful to have swampert with rock smash

i was playing hg and i traded some pokemon on the gts and i received a shiny lv 100 gengar and i used him but he didn't listen to me ( i had like 2 badges) so i said "this is the worst pokemon ever! Naturally i decided that i wanted a gyrados so i traded it and immediatly got it back so i was happy, fast forward after i get the shiny gyrados later on and now i was crying silently in my room thinking about how i would have had the rarest form of a pokemon that i now really wanted...

About the last point: I always restarted the game after I finished it, I played through it soooo many times. There are so many options and pokemon, it never got boring for me. But I guess if you never even finished it, that is quite a loss.

I didnt know that picking your starter in Emerald was a choice, I was just like "oH SHIT I NEED TO SAVE THAT GUY!" so I just picked a random pokemon, not caring about which one it was. And when professor birch said that I was stuck with it, I was so mad. I didn't know you could reset, so I was stuck with my torchick for the entire game! but... I now love Blaziken, so it was the best mistake I ever made. Also I thought Torchick looked like a girl, so I named it Cecilia. But it was accually a dude... hah...

Don't worry PlayRough, you aren't alone. I was 7 years old when I got Pokemon White. I got lost around Route 2 because you needed to talk to Fennel. I evolved my Oshawott to a Samurott. I trained it to around level 70 and I cleared the game really, really easily after that. Funny part about it was that it was level 80 when I battled Ghetsis.

I've also done stupid things. I named my rival on black 2 dennis because he was my best friend. I had a friend named dennis. lol. I named my Tepig Tepy. Pidove Pid. and Sunflora Sun. and other stupid nicknames. I encountered cresselia and didn't save before I encountered it.

My stupidest thing as a child (i was 4/5) was also a dickish move without realizing. Basically, me and my neighbor swapped our Red (mine) and Blue (his) games because we thought they would be entirely different, plus we wanted to see each others teams etc. I accidentally clicked on "new game" and thought "oops.... uh oh i restarted... i guess i gotta keep playing!" then once i played for a bit i ended up saving my game file, practically deleting his completed save. When i was very young i just thought clicking on the "new game" would automatically restart the game. I told my dad what i did while crying because i thought my friend would hate me so my dad took the blame. I have definitely learned my lesson lol.

I remember having a level 99 ninetales on my soulsilver game (fun fact, I've never been patient enough to raise a pokemon to level 100 XD) and I put the game down for almost a year, came back, and deleted that save file without looking at it first. When I remembered my ninetales was in there, I cried SO many tears :'c

When I was a kid and got Pokemon Blue, I didn't even know the point of the game, I just saw a giant turtle with guns and said "mom, can I have this game, please?". I spent 3 hours in Pallet Town and I didn't know that I can walk on the grass. I'm from Finland so I didn't even understand english, I just walked around, talked to everyone in the town and didn't know what to do. I got frustrated and went to sleep. I woke up in the morning to find out that my mom played my game for couple of hours and she was on Pewter City. I was pretty mad that she played my game and I didn't know that I can restart my game so I continued to play the game where she left it and used her caught pokemons with their ridiculous names.

Dumb Things I did in Pokemon as A Kid: Get a shiny zigzagoon before getting pokeballs.

My friend was foreign so he wasn't aware of half the things you could do in Pokemon. He didn't know you could buy pokeballs in the mart, so he saved every one he found out in the wild. And once he used them all, he was shit out of luck for the rest of the game.

When I was a kid I would go really quiet when catching pokemon as if the silence helped me catch it. I'd hold my breath as the ball shook, lower the volume on my game and anything else in the room and hope it was quiet enough to catch whatever pokemon I was battling

I always killed the legendary pokemon without knowing they were strong, legendary and that you can encounter them once.

I cant remember what i did when i was a little kid playing pokémon white (the first one) but i had a lot of help from my cousin who was a pokémon expert and he helped me with everything but when i was on my own at sometimes i probably just ran away from a lot of rare pokémon.(at least i caught zekrom.) then a couple of years ago when i got pokémon omega ruby i forgot there was a save button so a couple weeks later when i was almost done completing the game i accidentally ejected the game card but at least i was so motivated to get back i beat the game in a week (!) and i also realized how good torchic was of a starter.

Dumbest things I remember doing in Pokémon as a kid is thinking that all Pokémon evolved at level sixteen and thinking that evolution stones could evolve all Pokémon.

I was very young when I got pokemon gold, and I'd only played platform games like Mario and Sonic before. It took me weeks before I realised that if I moved my character towards the rug on the floor, that would cause him to leave his house. I was honestly walking around aimlessly in the character's bedroom for weeks.

I remember that I played Diamond. The opening moment where Rowan talks to you started, and it gives the guides. I did not know how to get past that and cried for hours.

Two stupid things I did when I started playing the games as a little kid. 1) I didn't know what revives were, so I literally spent weeks trying to beat the elite four in Ruby using nothing but potions. Eventually I did it, and I didn't know there was post-game stuff you could do, so as soon as the credits rolled I started over my game. 2) I didn't know what a shiny was, so when I found a shiny Golbat I ran because I thought the green color was disgusting.

The most funny thing that happened to me was when i played pokemon yellow on the gameboy colour as a kid. When my pikachu fainted in battle, it stopped following me around so I thought the other trainer I battled stole it. I remember having nightmares of a trainer stealing my pikachu irl... that's how much it bothered me.

When my cousin was a kid and he had Pokemon Emerald he never discovered the save feature. Literally, for years he never EVER saved the game. He'd always start the entire game from the beginning.

I don't have too many dumb moments in Pokemon considering I grew up with the series and kinds just went along with it, but I still did some stupid things from time to time. - I really really really wanted a Crobat in Emerald because back then it was a really cool Pokemon to me ( and still is now). However, I didn't know you needed MAX HAPPINESS to get it. So instead of being smart and catching and easily raising a weaker level Zubat, I was impatient. So, I caught the worse possible contender for a Crobat. I caught a Golbat on Victory Road...and KEPT LOOSING BATTLE AFTER BATTLE with the Golbat. I was so frustrated that I was rage quitting each battle by having Golbat faint even more XD. - Speaking of Crobat, In Fire Red I thought I could get a Crobat in the main game, but it turns out you couldn't evolve Pokemon outside of the region without the NATIONAL POKEDEX first. So, I ended up getting fustrated whenever Golbat would evolve and then stop evolving XD. I thought if I continued to level it up, I could somehow bypass this problem, so I had like a Level 53 Golbat by mid game. - When I first played Diamond, I seemed to encounter glitches often. There was one were I used a fire type move on Croagunk and it was super effective( I swear this happened). When I was a kid I was so damn confused because I thought for sure( seeing the Diamond and Pearl anime) that it was a poison-fighting type. I was right, but my kid self continued to be stupid as every time I encountered Croagunk I couldn't figure out what it's typing was. XD -When I was a kid, I always had stupid ideas about the Master Ball. I had the fear that if I used the Ball past a certain point it would expire or something like that ... I dunno. I also thought the Master Ball could only catch legendaries. So, I only used the ball on Legendary Pokemon. You might think that's good, but when I was a kid and people first started posting videos of catching Magikarps with a Masterball, I nearly fainted XD.

My first Pokemon game was Diamond, and I did a lot of stupid shit on there. The main things I did were trying constantly to catch event Pokemon (Arceus, Shaymin, Darkrai, etc), but obviously I couldn't catch any of them because I didn't go to the event. I would also constantly try to get Mystery Gifts even though I couldn't. And I remember that I would always use my Master Ball on a legendary Pokemon (I think I used it on Dialga) because I thought that if I didn't catch it the first time, I would lose it. Oh, and I never had any stat changing moves. I would only have attacking moves on my Pokemon.

'It's Super Effective' is what most Pokemon games are nowadays, including the Sun And Moon coming out in November.

About a year before I started pearl as a kid, I didn't even know how to leave the bedroom in my house because the doors are just red boxes

I didn't know that I was supposed to go to the mart back as a kid. That "private property" old man annoyed me so much I called him dog face because that's how his sprite looks like.

-Only leveled up Pikachu in Yellow (and gave it only Electric-type attacking moves) -Lost to Brock and Giovanni repeatedly -Only trained Croconaw in Silver, and since it was maybe Lv23 when I got to Goldenrod, I got my ass flattened by Whitney. -Repeatedly somehow lost to Brendan. On the FIRST battle. -Wasn't able to get past Winona's gym for weeks. (I was a stupid ten year old.) -Somehow wasn't able to figure out Wallace's Gym Maze for a long-ass time, left, spent well over a solid month level-grinding my Pelipper to Lv100. -I regularly killed legendaries until maybe partway thru Gen3. (Mostly because I didn't want to sit there for hours as they broke every single Ultra Ball I owned. But I got good playing thru Crystal (tho the actually-decent team I put together was completely unintentional. Typhlosion, Raikou, Dragonite, Espeon, Tyranitar and Pidgeot just kind of came to find a place in my party, and were my first team to all attain Lv100) and Emerald. But that still doesn't stop me from making dumb mistakes, even well into my adulthood: Volkner's gym trips me up to this day, and I also didn't know the EXP. Share could be turned off since I was spamming A while talking to Alexa. So, I completed that run with a few members of my team near or at Lv-100. (I was excited for my first handheld 3D Pokemon game.) Ironically, I actually never reset unless it's my 'second version.' I tend to have one game be my main for a generation, and one I specifically get to play and later reset.
