Duncan YJM VS. DiMarzio HS-3 & HS-4 Power Chords and Traditional Strat Sounds Comparison 

FINALLY -- someone showed ANY pickup, let alone the HS4, in the middle position! You have no idea how many videos I went through to hear that on the HS4. And you also explained what pickups were where! Another failing with a lot of these videos. Thanks, you're the best.

HS-3s sound the best to me. Have them in my player series strat. I'm also going to be buying a 1994 ST72-140YM hopefully next month, mostly for the darker tinted neck and HS3s. Can't wait!

Depends on taste but i prefer the DiMarzios, seem a little clearer like a PAF humbucker. Malmsteen went for a more distorted and aggressive sound later in career (which i don't like)and maybe why he wanted a different pickup. Also i heard there was a financial incentive for him! Be interested to hear an FS1? Great video as always !

I just always seem to prefer DiMarzio. Blind tests, single coils, humbuckers, etc. Someone there has similar ears to mine.

Dimarzio tone is better in my opinion. Dimarzio is Hot and clean at The same time.

I'm usually a DiMarzio guy but I like the Duncans better here. A little hotter and heavier. Have you ever tried the DiMarzio Heavy Blues, Heavy Blues 2 or Virtual Solo pickups? 🤘🏻💀

This is very valuable video. I’m trying to resurrect my heavily damaged 2003 yjm strat. I think I’m going to choose a hs preloaded pick guard from Dimarzio. Somehow I see the intonation screws bent out of shape over the years may be !I’ve considered the callaham vintage bridge with narrow spacing. My question is have you faced the slipping E string issue in any of the yjm strats? I’m trying to decide between fixing my existing bridge or should I spend the $180 on the callaham. Appreciate your inputs!

Excellent video, as always. Do you find that one set is more quieter with regards to hum-cancelation than the other? I've read than the Duncan Furys do a better job at canceling hum than the DiMarzios, and I just wanted to get your take on whether that's true or not.

So... The Dimarzio HS3 is a humbucker in a single coil size? I always thought it was a single coil. Maybe you mean it's a pickup that's not noisy but still produces a single coil type of sound or am I wrong?

Both sets are good, but I prefer DiMarzios overall. They tend to have more clarity. The Duncans are a little grittier. I think DiMarzio make better hum cancelling single coils than Duncan. They were the first company to produce them and I think they got it down to a science before Duncan. I find most Duncan stacked single coils to be dry, stiff, and very overpowered. Duncan doesn't make anything even close to the HS series or Area set. Kinman is another good brand for stacked single coils. I don't know what technology they use, it's a bit different, but their single coils sound fantastic. I also think some of the Fender Noisless pickups are very good and wouldn't change them if I had a strat that came loaded with them.

With all the distortion they all sound about the same plus you played something different every time there was no way to compare!

YJM FURY better than DIMARZIO YJM
