The biggest questions of Dune 2021 explained. The Dune ending and full movie has left fans and viewers with many questions, especially those who haven't read Frank Herbert's science fiction novel. Paul's visions, the Bene Gesserit, Baron Harkonnen's escape and the emperor are just some of the elements that a Dune Part 2 will address. In this breakdown of Denis Villeneuve's Dune, I've explained all of the biggest questions for readers and non-readers of the book, alongside easter eggs and things you missed. There are heavy spoilers in this video.
Paul Atreides leads nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis. Dune is an upcoming epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book. The film stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

In the Dune saga it’s said that the worms are NOT native to Arrakis but we’re introduced from another unknown planet.

in reality, the shield would just slow the bullet down until the bullet was slow enough to penetrate, making projectiles adapt to cause damage at low speeds, which we see with the use of the dart guns which sit there and bore there way through the shield. I mean I get the whole narrative reasons and world building reasons, but a heavy dart machine gun would wreck people pretty decently id imagine lol

Actually preferred this action to the quick unaffected Baron escape in the book. Made more sense to me. And gave Letos death more meaning and less a failure.

It's also important to note that one reason the Bene Geserit had a huge problem with Paul's birth was that it may have ruined a centuries-long plan to engineer a kwisatz haderach emperor that they could control like a puppet.

The BG came to Caladan to kill Paul. Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam admitted that the test was rigged against him. But Paul passed the test anyway so they had to let him live

@@LordLootus it was mentioned in the book that they would manipulate the environment that KH would be raised in. Jessica giving birth to a male heir maybe have foiled the BG's plan.

@@LordLootus In the novel, when asked, Paul says "I'm something...unexpected." This suggests that he already knew of the possibility of the future that his son creates.

Paul wasn't 'pampered' on Calidan. He essentially grew up in a royal house version of military school. Even time spent with his Mother was hard physical and mental training.

I agree he was not a primadonna. He didn't live in a lap or luxury. He was trained in many things. He had mentat abilities, he has bene geseret skills, along with his martial skills, added with his military training. This conditionally prepared him for what's to come. Which makes him quite formidable, if he was soft, he would've failed the box test, albeit losing his life.

Your understanding of Lady Jessica's character in the beginning of your video is incorrect. The book makes clear that having a son and not a daughter with Duke Leto demonstrated her love and loyalty to the duke over the BG order. The reason for her not interfering with Paul's test is that it would have resulted in Paul's death at the hand of the Reverend Mother by the gom jabbar.

The BG order were not convinced, Paul could be the Kwisatz Haderach (the one who can be at many places at once), being a male. They would prefer seeing him killed than showing any sings of development. Again because he is a man, not a woman as they had been expected and anticipating a woman gtpm Jessica. His sister Alia and his son Paul II also could be considered as prospects of the title... but for the BG order the Kwisatz Haderach had to be a male, because females could not open the required connection to past experiences. But Alia commits suicide because of a treachery or betrayal against Paul. The Kwisatz Haderach must be a male direct descendent of both Harkonen (male) and Atreides (female) parents according to the BG order expectations and plans. Not certain whether Paul is such a cross-breed between both houses and why exactly BG order has chosen specifically those two houses, as there are houses as well. And they probably have had other prospects as well. A bit unfinished concept.

@@PASHKULI So then the BG planned that the Kwisatz Haderach would arise from House Harkonnen? Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam mentioned that the BG had other candidates for Kwisatz Haderach. In the books, there was at least one failed Kwisatz Haderach. Failed as he was sterile.

@@okolona1 BG goal is to have or to procreate the Kwisatz Haderach. They do not care from which exact bloodline it would be, but I think (not sure) they wanted it to emerge if possible from a male Harkonen and female Atreides. Any other skilful man would have fit perfectly though.

The sandworms are not native to Arakis, in the books it is shown that Arakis used to be a water planet, until the sand trout weere introduced.

I did not know this. I knew about the old dream but didn’t know it was a water planet. Makes total sense though cause of all the sand and the worms are perfect for terraforming though water can kill them.

The duel between Paul and Jamis is significant on another level. Throughout the movie up until that point, Paul has largely been caught up in events - just reacting to events put in motion by others, and later trying to survive, not exerting much in the way of personal agency. A couple of scenes earlier, Paul had a vision of what might come to pass if he and his mother used the engineered prophecies of the Missionaria Protectiva left in the Fremen culture by the Bene Gesserit to gain standing among the Fremen, seeing the possible future Fremen Jihad as an unquenchable fire spreading across the galaxy, consuming all in its path. The situation with Jamis is an inflection point - the moment when Paul could most readily choose to either walk the path of becoming the Kwizatz Harderach, fulfilling the terms of the engineered prophecy of the Lissan Al Ghaib and so becoming Muad'dib with the knowledge of the galactic scale carnage that lies ahead in that future, or he could turn away, either allowing Stilgar to fight Jamis in his place, whereupon Paul will live but will never have influence and power enough among the Fremen to have his revenge on the Padasha Emperor and the Harkonnen, or he could fight Jamis and allow Jamis to kill him, thereby avoiding the Jihad by another route, though a personally costly one. Paul foresees these options, seeing how the fight could play out in his death, and for the first time makes the active choice to set his feet on the path that will cause the symbolic death of the Paul Atredies that was, and will begin the ascension of the Kwizatz Haderach in earnest. These are the few shifting pebbles that will trigger the landslide, the seemingly (on the scale of the Imperium) minor event that is in truth the fulcrum upon which the fate of the galaxy will turn.

Excellent break down. I thought the film handled this brilliant, and it's a great contrast to when Paul blindly hands his fate over to literally the winds of the storm in the Ornithopter. Then the Jamis fight he finally takes control of his fate.

The fremen were incredibly tough, well adapted to their environment (though it’s hinted that before Arrakis, the origin of their people was on Salusa Secundus, aka this is an offshoot of the Saudarkar), but they were divided into familial sietches and lacked unity of purpose and leadership other than through culture. Liet Kines is kind of like their “Lawrence of Arabia,” an outsider who goes native, but Kynes was taking a slow (possibly unsustainable) path and didn’t have the respect and command over all the fremen. To make another comparison, Kynes is like John the Baptist, a necessary step to pave the way for a “greater” entity. Paul “Muad’Dib” Atreides is a game changer. Not only does he benefit from the groundwork laid by Kynes and the Bene Gesserit god myth, but he brings his lifetime of feudalistic leadership training, combat abilities from masters of training in Gurney and Jessica, and of course his latent abilities to see possible futures. He also has the will and motivation to change things up for the Fremen, and take on the greatest human powers in the universe.

I read Dune for the first time in 1978 along with everyone else at my university. This new movie is a strong adaptation of the first half of the book. A pleasure to watch. Detail after detail is nailed.

The Bene Gesserit aren't told to only have daughters who are then paired with noblemen from outside the breeding program. The noblemen themselves are also products of the breeding program. Jessica specifically was ordered to have only daughters, but another sister might be ordered to have sons, depending on the needs of the breeding program.

@Kalda Forn and yet here you are, going out of your way to tell people about how this is a trash film, even though if the film actually was trash it would have immediately been common knowledge from the hundreds of thousands of views, and from the many reviews by people with much more of a following or audience than you. Imagine being so small, thus the idiom “haters gonna hate” holds true. It’s a slow movie in parts, sure. It’s subtle in many parts, yes. That doesn’t mean it’s trash. It’s one of the more faithful book-to-film adaptations, in company with LotR, and that’s no small feat given the source material. It isn’t lacking in emotion, there’s emotion all over the place. Happiness, sorrow, panic, calm, rage, and fear. It’s all there. You just might have missed it. You didn’t care for it, and you’re entitled to your opinion. This movie isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. It doesn’t need to be. For what it is, it’s my favorite film in quite some time, and arguably the best film of the year

When Paul say, "I recognize the your footsteps old man." Immediately Gurney grabs Paul to pull him up to the Orithopter. This seems to be in reference to the scene earlier in which Gurney tells Paul not to have his back to the door and Paul says I would recognized you footsteps and calls him Old Man during the shield training.

It’s a double entendre. Shai Hulud translates to “Old man of the desert”….

That's correct. The line is nothing to do with Shai Hulud, it's all about Gurney Halleck. Obviously Paul is having a Spice-fuelled experience and has a glimpse of the future when he is going to be reunited with Gurney in the desert, after thinking he was dead. It's foreshadowing of something that's going to come in the next film.

The worm never looked down at Paul and Jessica. Sandworms are completely blind, they can only hunt by sensing the vibrations of moving sand. While Paul and Jessica were running through the dunes, it knew exactly where they were; but since they walked over the rocks, the vibrations from their running suddenly stopped. Worms avoid the rocks, because they can't dive on rocky ground, so it was just waiting for it's prey to make new vibrations by moving onto sand again. It didn't knew Paul and Jessica were there, right down it's gaping mouth.

Im not discounting this comment i agree with it, but thinking about it, we are explaining the worm's actions in only a scientific light. Everything about the dessert is shrouded in mysticism, and the worm might very well have been able to sense them even though they wernt giving off the vibrations any more. The entire movie is grounded in symbolism and that scene might very well have been laced with many.

Went out to watch this on IMAX at 11:30PM. the whole theatre was full of people and time went so fast. Everyone was completely immersed and didn’t notice the 3 hours. In the end we all clapped.

I agree. This movie is set-up, betrayal, and conversion to Islam which isn't much to speak of, but the visuals are so good you don't notice the length or get bored in any scene. It didn't fall high on my top 300 movies as it only came in at 251, and yet I do want another movie to get into a better story as opposed to more explanation.

In fact, the elements are closely associated with the Christo Judioasm where Jesus is believed to have spent 40 days and 40 nights in the Arabian deserts. With sandworms closely depicting the snake of the desert that was subdued by Jesus Christ.

@@jobsmine, the Mahdi is the name for the Islamic Messiah or Christ. The Arabic being spoken by the people in the desert was used to avoid a made up language. I agree that the movie is not going to make them do a Hajj or anything like that, but the reality is they did borrow from Islam at times.

@@ReligionOfSacrifice not exactly. It’s hebrew. And Jesus christ spoke Aramaic (Hebrew for now) as for most Israelis and Pharisee at that time. In fact the New Testament was published in Greek that were directly transcribed from Aramaic.

@@jobsmine, the twelfth Imam or Mahdi is an Arabic term in Islam. Mashiach is the term Messiah in Hebrew and that is like saying Christ in Greek. Not sure what your credentials are, but that you would call the Mahdi something in Hebrew and not Islamic Arabic sort of makes you one not to trust in logic. Dune is referring to Islamic terms and words throughout. Thus the movie can be called: Part one is set-up and part two is betrayal and part three is the conversion to Islam such that the people in the desert can think of him as their Mahdi or Islamic savior.

Small correction: Mua’Dib is the Fremen word for the desert mouse that he sees in his Holobooks and when he and Jessica emerge from the and after they sleep in the tent in the desert. In the books he selects this name himself, after he is accepted into the Fremen.

Paul had no trouble killing those Harkknnen in the thopter. So Janis was not his first kill.

@@okolona1 Technically correct (especially in the book) but in the film too since Paul obviously trips up the first of the Harkonnens (the one who hit him) and makes him fall out of the 'thopter. On the other hand, I presume the "feel" of actually thrusting a knife into another body is something else again and not something anyone would forget doing for the first time.

One aspect of the fight between Paul and Jamis is the way in which Paul felt remorse for having killed Jamis. He claims that Jamis's chief lesson as a freind was to teach him that killing someone has a price-especially when one has to kill at close range; when one can see the eyes and face of his opponent. Many veterans can relate to such a feeling and they never forget the images of those they had to kill in such a manner-often feeling great remorse and even a kinship with their victim.

It also showed him, I hate to use the word "becoming a man". Stepping away from being a child, and embracing whats coming even if he didn't want it. Stilgar makes the point about him toying with him, and then they find out it's a fight to the death. In a way stop being a "child" time to become a "man".

It's not a sequel. It's merely a continuation. The sequels would be Dune MESSIAH and CHILDREN of Dune.

@@DG-gx4sg The other 3 📚 books are Dune GOD EMPEROR, Dune CHAPTERHOUSE, and HERETICS of Dune. These books take place, a few thousand years, in the distant future. Frank Herbert died before finishing, the seventh and final book 📖, in the Dune series.

The worm with the harvesters and the worm that chases Paul and Jessica are not the same. The size is very different. The term Shai-hulud is used by the fremen to refer to all sandworms, not a specific one.

I don't think Paul's "old man" comment during his first spice vision was meant to refer to the sand worm, but rather Gurney as he approached from behind him and Paul recognized the sound of his step as he said he could in the sparring scene earlier in the film. He also referred to him as "old man" to tease him in this scene as well. It's also possible that the sand worm simply couldn't see Paul and Jessica before Jamis distracted it with his thumper. It's not something I've really thought about before, but does the sand worms even have eyes? I figured they navigate entirely by feeling vibrations and that it was momentarily blind as they were standing completely still and that it would have attacked the moment they attempted to run away.

You're right about both. With how sandworms dwell mostly underground, I doubt they have eyes at all, so the one chasing Paul and Jessica was most likely trying to 'sense' them before it got distracted by a thumper. And yes, Paul's vision in front of the harvester was pretty lucid. He was seeing things but he was also aware of his surroundings and could react to them (but so distracted by his vision that he didn't think to save his a** before it was almost too late)

It was a reference to Paul having visions but also being aware of his surroundings. That Paul can now see into the future just seconds away.

@@Dularr not the future per say but “possible futures” almost like Quantum projections, that’s why he benefits from advices of the fremen he killed without even meeting him while they were trapped in that Dune’s Helicopter “life is not to be stopped and understood but you need to go with the flow of it” that saved them their and that’s why he stops fighting his destiny and go with the fremen.

Maybe I missed it when I read the book, but I'm not sure about Yueh being "weak" exactly. The plan with the tooth seems to relate more to Leto being able to get up close and personal with Baron Harkonnen; Yueh suspected that his wife was already dead, and in some way probably already considered that he'd be killed anyway without ever getting close to the Baron.

Jessica made the mistake of not drawing blood before resheathing it though if you go off the book. Obviously this was omitted for some reason which was a tad disappointing in regards to accuracy but not a huge issue (and I’m certain Dennis would be aware this detail).

I consider this to be an important detail. Jessica is only lucky that the word she chose happened to echo the word Mapes was thinking of. Jessica doesn't know, even then, that the sandstorm are called 'makers' by the Fremen. It tells us that, while the Bene Gesserit's Missionary Protective has seeded ideas into Fremont culture, they are general ideas that manifest themselves organically. Paul and Jessica's path among the Fremen isn't a paved road or a delineated playbook. They still have to tread carefully, pay attention and respond appropriately for things to go well. These details, which are everywhere in the book, are very difficult to bring into a visual medium.

I've reread Dune for 30+ years, and often find it hard to explain certain concepts to non-readers. @@aliensoup2420 I agree that the music for Dune wasn’t all that great tbh, idk why EVERYONE else seems to think it was amazing, also the sound design of the movie in general isn’t that great in my opinion. After watching it in theaters when I watched it at home I had to hold the remote and turn it up when people were talking and WAYYYY down when the music came on, wish they would have leveled out the sound design more so I could comfortably keep it at one steady volume. Other than the music and sound design though I absolutely LOVED this movie though. I can definitely understand that it’s not for everyone, but I have never seen the other movie or show, or read the books, so this movie was completely 💯% new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait until part 2. I also hope that Denis makes more after part 2 and it becomes another huge franchise in the modern day movie culture, like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe among other things.

Paul didn't attract the sandworm at all. That sand worm was always meant to chase them regardless. What he changed was fighting in his mother's behalf.

Yes. And to be clear, the reason Jamis had to die was not Paul's doing or any mistake that Paul made in attracting a sand worm. As you say, the sand worm was already coming. When they stepped on the drum sand, that only hastened its approach. But Paul had no way of knowing he was about to step on drum sand. And in any case, I fail to see any connection between that and the fight between Paul and Jamis. That was totally Jamis' choice. He called out Stilgar for having been bested by Jessica and Stilgar said not now. Then Jamis called out Jessica and Stilgar said you can't call her out. Then Jamis said he would challenge her champion and that was when Paul had to step forward. It was Jamis' decision to fight for the leadership of the seitch that led to his death, not any mistake made by Paul. Paul's visions are only possible futures. But that doesn't mean he has the ability to control the actions of others that could also influence events.

There's a chance that Paul didn't change anything, but it's Jamis that changed the outcome, or it could be the mother who changed the outcome by fighting the guy and beating him, or it could be the guy who attacked the mother. I think the main concept here when it comes down to it is free will. Because Paul can see only one specific future. But it's never set in stone, it can alway's change or subject to change based on I guess free will. The choices that you make or the choices that other people make, it's never clear what the choices of people are going to be. But the circumstances will alway's follow the same predicted path. It's up to them to follow that path or deviate. So yeah It could have been anybody but who really knows who stepped out of the path. Or maybe multiple people did at the same time.

I went to the theatre without any information about Dune. Never even seen any trailer. Later at night I've watched the 1984 version. I was so intrigued I had to watch it. The Lynch version looks rushed after Paul and Jessica met the Fremen. I'm pretty hyped up for part 2.

I love the 84 Lynch version, but it falls short of the book by a lot. If you want a more accurate version try to find the Scifi channel Mini series, the CGI isn't great they had a limited budget. But the acting is good, and follows the book far better. They also did Children of Dune, which is the 2nd and 3rd books combined.

After I watched the movie in the theater I found some people outside who had never seen any of it or read the books and I told them if this thing becomes success I'm really hoping for at least a minimum of five more movies to tell the story of the Dune Saga. Because after the second part of Dune you have the books of Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, Emperor God of Dune. And I believe the last one Frank was writing with called dune chapterhouse

I must have missed Paul calling the worm 'Old Man of the Desert' in the Harvester scene. When Gurney was coming up behind Paul as he was kneeling, Paul says in a sort of snarky tone, 'I hear your footsteps Old Man', recognizing Gurneys footsteps, which brings him out of the vision and they begin running. I'll have to watch this movie again once the Blu-ray comes out.

It doesn't make any sense that Paul didn't know all that much about the Bene Gesserit as he even received training in the voice but it is far more likely that this is a literary device to explain to the audience what is going on. It is just one of those little quicks we need to accept. As Jessica is explaining the Bene Gesserit to Paul what she is really doing is explaining it to the audience. It makes this seem more natural rather than doing voice over narration to explain the things the audience needs to know.

16:10 Iirc the Harkonnens in the book were masters of torture and Wanna is kept alive and on Piter's pain amplifiers. Yueh decides that in exchange for working with them, they let Wanna die and the Baron was being "generous" by letting Yueh "join" her. Wish they showed this in the movie to really highlight how "brutal" the Harkonnens were.

The reason Paul sees Jamis as a friend in his vision is because he’s accessing Idaho’s memory. They shared a drink together and it has spice in it so Paul shares Idaho’s experience/memory. This scene was cut in the final film so you didn’t see it.

The reason for Jamis being mentioned as a friend in the vision is revealed during Jamis funeral ceremony where the word "friend" is very significant for both Paul and the Fremen. I don't understand why this is overlooked in so many analysis videos. Jamis becomes Paul's friend through the fight and by Paul taking his life. Paul didn't change the future of his vision, he followed it exactly. It's just that the visuals of the vision are symbolic, not literal.

It is not a reference to the worm but to the scene with Gurney on Caladan when he is training against dummys and Gurney told him not to turn his back to the door. Then Paul says he recognize his stride.

The Baron had the shield because the repellent effect of subatomic particles of the Holtzman Field is what allowed the Baron to float. He turned the Holtzman field up to a higher setting, reinforcing the field, when he suspected danger.

Pre sparring scene, Gurney admonished Paul for standing with his back to the door. Paul says, "I could tell it was you, by your footsteps, Gurney Halek." Paul also makes it a point to tell Gurney that he'd, "know the difference," if someone imitated his stride. During their sparring, Paul also refers to Gurney as "Old Man." 2. When Paul is in his trance, he says, "I recognize your footsteps, old man..." then jump cut to Gurney grabbing Paul's shoulder. 3. Shai'hulud has no feet (But he is many feet long).

Jamis should have accompanied Stilgar to meet the Atreides…es? in Arakeen, but stood back and had no lines, but just locked eyes with Paul for a moment… and maybe spitting on the floor before he leaves? aside from appearing in the prologue, he doesn’t show up until Paul’s vision in the sand storm, but he plays such a huge role in the narrative. same with Dr. Yueh… he needed more development, even if they had to invent it for the movie.

The Emperor is basically a title of a CEO of CHOAM (Combine Honnete Ober Advancer Mercantiles) a huge interplanetary corporation that controls all trade. The Landsraad is basically a board of directors of which Leto Atreides is one of the members. Leto started to gain a ton of popularity across the whole directorate and other baronies, which started to worry the Emperor. As a CEO, the Emperor, can be voted out of his position if he is no longer popular. So he secretly joins the Baron's plan. Vladimir Harkonnen is highly disliked by every other member of the board, so the Emperor is confident that if the Baron wipes out the Atreides there will be no one else popular enough to take away his position.

Also, the Harkonnen & Atreides houses have hated each other for many hundreds (if not thousands) of years. So if the Emperor gave the popular and liked Duke Leto the fief of Dune, then the other houses would possibly look at this like even the Emperor is liking Duke Leto and wants to entrust him with more power and stuff. While the Harkonnens come in and wipe their house out with the secret help of the emperors troops, people would just think that the Harkonnens got angry that the Atreides had “taken” (been given) “their” fief of dune and so they took revenge by killing them all and taking back over the planet. Also, since the Harkonnens are MUCH more successful and faster at harvesting Spice and getting it out into the universe for everyone to use, while the Atreides were NOT that good at collecting spice (because of the Harkonnens sabotaging them before leaving the planet) people might be willing to look the other way for the Harkonnens and just giving them a “slap on the wrists” such as giving them a big fine or something of the sort. Not 100% sure, that’s just what I would assume with everything that I know about the Dune universe so far.

The Atreides were amassing a force that could rival the Saudarkar, the Imperial legion. The Emperor feared that the other Great Houses in the Landsraad (sort of like a council or Parliment, the way I understand it) would obey Leto as opposed to himself. Now, the Harkonnens and Atreides had a long standing legal blood feud, called "Kanly" in the books. The emperor decided to team up with the Harkonnens and eliminate his enemies. That way, if anything goes wrong, the Emperor can just say that it was a Kanly thing.

You nearly hit on the one things that irked me about the movie. Stillsuits are extremely valuable for living in the desert and need to be kept in working order. Knife fights, even with a large difference in skill level, will result in both combatants being cut. So the fight between Jamis and Paul should have been without them wearing the stillsuits as it will result in both suits being damaged to some extent. In the book, I believe the duel was done in the nude for this reason.

Yes, Paul's dreams are sometimes inaccurate, like it is described in the books: Because the future is not yet decided, he sees possible futures, the further he looks the more obscure it seems, depending on the choices he is yet to make. And also his dreams are symbolic in the sense that Jamis did actually become his teacher, just not in the way he saw in his visions. He taught him the ways of the desert in the sense that the desert is ruthless, he had to kill to be accepted amongst the fremen. In another vision Chani kills Paul. That is also symbolism, since Paul has never killed a man, and as the Bene Gesserit voices told him before the final fight, your old self dies if you take another life, and Paul has to die for Kvisatz Haderach to rise. And Chani was the one, who gave him the Chrisknife for the duel. Excellent job by the director I think.

In the 1st book, the use of shields would provoke the sand worms into a frenzy, the harkonen and sadaujar thought they had an advantage against the freemen. Duncan Idaho used that fact to prevent the sadaukar from hunting them and the freemen down in the desert.

There are special anti-shield guns that fire projectiles that slow down when hitting shield and slowly work their way up through it, you can see a scene when Harkonenns attack during the night and Duncan Idaho fights his way through the palace corridors and encounters few soldiers (I think it was sardaukars) and he gets shot. This buzzer sticks to his shield and with great effort with an edge of his sword/knife he glances/brushes it away and it flies off the screen. So there are guns but not to that extent as our armies use them.

I always took the "You still have much to learn. I will show you the ways of the desert. Come with me" vision as a statement as to why Jamis challenges Paul. To show him the way of the desert, which is kill or be killed.

It's weird to me that the gom jabar test/scene is always referred to as such. It should be called the box test, right? Gom jabars pop up in other scenes throughout the story but isn't this the only time the box is featured? I know the gom jabars can kill so that's neat... but the box is much more intriguing imo.

The box test is nothing without the Gom Jabbar though. The entire point is that you have to focus on the Gom Jabbar, not the box, so you don't die. By focusing on the GJ, you're thinking like a human, considering other, less apparent threats while your hand is caught in a trap.

Here's my question. In the movie when Stilgar first meets Paul on his way out he says I recognize you meaning he knows the prophecy but when he fights Jessica i the desertand she bests him he asks why didn't you tell us you was a weirding woman? Which is the fremen term for bene gesserit. If he already knew of Pauls prophecy why didn't he know about Jessica?

He knew about the prophecy indoctrinated into them by the Bene Gesserit. However, the prophecy didn't say anything about his lineage. All it said was that a man would come from a distant world, a messiah, who would lead them to true freedom. Also, fremen do correlate their Weirding Women to Bene Gesserit. They have been taught to think that they are not the same.
