For the people that complain about uprising being a standalone game. It most likely started as just an expansion, a "lets implement sandriders", then as they realised they could not fit sandworms into the original board, they decided to do it as a second board expansion, and had a chance to redo some of the locations, and implement cards that would fit more to dune: part two. As the scope expanded they decided that there was enough new stuff to match the size of almost a full game, and decided to make it able to be played standalone, so added the components from the original and fully fleshed out the imperium row to not just be an expansion.

it was the right decision because original imperium deck was already too big and diluted with expansions. now i wonder if i should buy rise of ix for uprising, it only has 35 cards but people say that will make new spy and worm mechanic be less used.

The Spice Must Flow card is slightly different too, in Uprising it has the Spacing Guild tag, in base it has no tag.

I still enjoy the base Dune Imperium and never bought the expansions, so I am looking forward to this version.

We had a game where no cards with guild icons came out for about 3 rounds. We now just burn the last card of the row each turn. Another more exciting house rule could be letting the player burn whichever card they like after buying or not buying. I think it's more in with the theme and spirit of the game. Plus you just get to see more cards!

Nothing like a (9:20) little bit to take you over the edge, a little more than that 10 rating. 11 is better. You can add it to the dial for those times... --Nigel

Is it possible to make an explanation video or a playthrough in connection with the 6 player variant?

it's tough getting six folks together for runthroughs unfortunately :(

How many automated players are there included? Can we play solo with 3 automated players?
@rahdo
@rahdo 9 месяцев назад
there are 10 rivals to choose from. the rules offically have you add 2 rivals when playing solo, and 1 rival when you're playing as a 2p game. there's nothing about adding more, but i suppose you could anyway? instead of adding more, they encourage you to increase the difficulty of the 2 you're facing with a few different options

For a game with no direct "combat" does Rahdo actively avoid this one?

i do actively avoid it, yes :)

I love my dune imperium game. Solo plays amazing. I don’t see the need to get this one at all. More of the same with “better” stuff…..? Pass 🙂

I think I will stick with my steam version of the original, which work quite well for cheaper! Coz' Despite all the praised reviews (and probably lot of paid ones) out there. I feel like the big problem in this revamped version, could be those potentially big crazy +4 victory points in a single round (for exemple with those sandworms doubling the combat rewards) is going to feel a bit unbalanced ? Where I feel like the original is more cutthroat. Basically I always felt, 'in the original, that it was a bit of a shame when a game ends at turn 8. Feeling like I brought cards that won't have any impact on the game. So here, if most of the games are ending at turn 7 or 8 and rarely at turn 9 or 10... I don't know... I feel like it is a bit of a shame when a game turn out to end really faster than it should have. OK, it's Great for the winner but the 3 others players, with 4 to 5 pts behind won't be that happy I think... So those big +4 pts points in a single round leading you to victory could be, in my opinion a huge negative experience if it happen' regularly. That's the big stuff that restrain me from this uprising version. As the original, get some closer end game with score like 11 VS 10 VS 9 vs 9 sometimes.. Which feels great I'm not sure this version will be that close about endgame scoring. It looks like it might look more like 10 VS 7 VS 6 vs 5...and there.. It's a whole different experience. That's why I'm not sure about those sworms in this uprising version.. I hope I got this wrong but that's the feeling I have when looking at all reviews and playtroughs out there. So, What's your view on this scoring aspect I mentioned above with this uprising version ? Cheers.

In my experience, you can usually see when people are going for a four point swing, and unless they've built their whole engine towards that or have gotten very lucky, it's not such a regular thing as you're worried about. I actually can't remember the last time I even saw it, so pulling it off is fairly rare, though your mileage may vary. That being said, yeah the steam version is a lot cheaper, so if that works for you, don't feel like you have to pick this one up. The changes aren't revolutionary, I just think they make for a better game.

these types of semi sequels are highly aggravating. All the investment you do for the original is just thrown out the window. And it's getting more prevalent.
@Josh-hz8vz
@Josh-hz8vz 9 месяцев назад
None of the original is “thrown out the window”. This is not like an online video game with servers that will get shutdown or depopulated. The game does not suddenly cease to exist. You continue to have the same exact physical copy that you can continue to play as many times as you want (some even prefer the original DI). If a new standalone game makes you feel otherwise it is because you are too consumed by cult of the new. There’s nothing wrong with keeping what you have and enjoying that it’s complete.

pubs have been doing these for decades, going back to ticket to ride spinoffs. and your original game hasn't lost value, or suddnely become unfun to play, so i'm not sure why oyu think your investment was "thrown out the window". your copy of D:I should still be just as enjoyable as always surely, whether you buy this or not :) here's a thread on it where someone spells it all out very well i think in the original post boardgamegeek.com/thread/3132427/i-really-dont-understand-hate

You can just ignore it and nothing changes about the original game. But what’s odd is calling out this specific game for your sequel gripes… because DireWolf made a lot of effort making sure this was compatible with everything that’s come before. The rulebook even has sections for how to combine everything. So literally nothing is obsolete.

I'm sorry but when literally every reviewer proclaims that this version is better than the original, saying something like "The release of Uprising doesn't in any way diminish the value of the original" is misinformed at best. Of course if you want to play the OG solo, nothing wrong with it and no issue, but good luck getting your "inferior" (according to reviewers) version played in a groups, your group, conventions etc. Most people will want to play the "better" version (according to reviewers). That's how human nature works. So it does diminish in my opinion the value of the original.

if you're suggesting that your friends will refuse to play a game with you that you want to play, that 6 months ago they would have been happy to play, well that's just sad. i hope you can find better gaming companions, or can convince them that the game is just as much fun as it ever was! :)
@CastelDawn

yeah well, i'm not paying again for the same game with just a couple of changes.
@rahdo
@rahdo 9 месяцев назад
sure, and by that argument, there's no real reason to buy expansions for games as well. generally what's in the original box is "good enough", and changes aren't needed. but they are nice in case you play the game a lot and are looking for a change of pace or to mix things up, which is certainly the case here as well :)

@@rahdoThat is apples and oranges. One expands gameplay of an established base game and adds value to the original game, while the other renders the established base game obsolete, requiring a complete reinvestment (as expansion will now come out just for the newer version) and devalues the original base game.
@rahdo
@rahdo 9 месяцев назад
sorry we'll have to disagree here, and i think history proves my side. ticket to ride is not devalued by ticket to ride: europe. pandemic is not devaluted by pandemic: iberia. dominion is not devalued by dominion: intrigue. and i could easily go on listing a dozen more examples, but it all points to the same thing: dune is NOT devaluded by dune: uprising And, btw, Uprising is a funcational expansion for regular d:i since it's all backwards compatible, just like dominion:intrigue is functionally an expansion for dominion, or aeon's end: new age is an expansion for aeon's end, etc.. it's an expansion that also functions as a standalone game, and this has been a comon thing in the industry for over a decade, and by and large no one has complained about it, until D:I for some weird random reason :(
@Flicky669

@@rahdoit’s not a standalone expansion. It’s a reworking of the original base game that has a higher price tag than just an expansion.
@rahdo
@rahdo 9 месяцев назад
that's incorrect. the content from this standalone game also works as an expansion for the base game, as you can combine it with original D:I, Immortality, and Ix. All of this is spelled out in the rules for Uprising.
