Saw it at the biggest IMAX screening I could afford as a double-billing with Part One at midnight before release. It was worth every single penny.

I loved it too. Not as much as the first one. Everything you said about the actors and the characters I agreed with. However, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something lacking in this second one. I couldn’t put my finger on just why until I watched it for a second time. It’s the Music. I am a huge Hans Zimmer fan. In the first dune, his music was very much front and center. It took that movie to the next level. It was not a simple background music score that usually goes unnoticed. It was an orchestral masterpiece that one could listen to all by itself. In the second Dune, however, the music does not play the same role as it did in the first, for the most part. And once I noticed it, I could not unnoticed it. I think what the Director did was remove the music as a method of increasing emotional impact of a scene and replace it with extreme close-ups of the characters. So, though I still love the movie, I didn’t feel as connected to it. Also, the amazing vocals in Gom Jabbar, the one that sings the theme, sound eerily very similar to the main theme of the anime version of Ghost in the Shell.

Dune would be best adapted into a multi-season TV series. That being said, I also love the direction Denis Villeneuve took his films.
