There are SO many good lines in this trailer alone! 'This World is beyond cruel" .... or the visions from Paul about, well basically being afraid of himself. His potential. For good AND evil.
I feel like this is the story that film needs right now because it's a much-needed counter argument to the hero archetypes that are so prevalent in current pop-culture. It's a story that feels like it's adding to the discourse about what values and cliches we attribute to perceived heroes. It's a very sober and mature take on what it means to live up to those values and how it might actually be a very destructive thing.
Totally agree with new IP but knowing Denis...staying true to Frank Herbert's novel is sacred to him. Changing source material always messes up the entire story....(Game of Thrones). He can take liberties how he gets to Herbert's main plot points but staying true to it is key to it working overall.
The shot of Gurney walking with whom im assuming are the last surviving fighters of House Atreides in full armor and swords drawn gave me so much chills. I cant wait to see this film.
I feel bad for all of those people who found the first movie boring. It was meant to be a prelude to the main story which starts here. It's difficult because without the first Dune you would have no clue what is going on in this one. Kinda like watching avengers without watching Iron man 1, Thor 1, Captain America 1, and the hulk. At the same time those MCU movies were stories in their own right, which made them less boring in comparison to Dune 1, which is a far more detail oriented story but without a clean and clear ending.
I disagree. I didn't find it boring... however I found the action felt completely weightless, like if u watch the batman for example every single punch u can FEEL, but when I watched dune the fights had no impact imo
@@joebond545 They were trained to fight at a low speed in order to penetrate the protective barrier, so they’re all “pulling their punches” in a sense.
@@mhawang8204 just the whole vibrating sword thing and shield i didn't like at all. I'll watch dune 2 to see if the action has made an improvement because everything else was good imo. I can see how lots of people find it boring though it's essentially a whole movie set on tattoine
Paul knows, he is probably the only one who truly does. His frustration is the result of him knowing so much more than others, and the others pushing him in directions he knows he does not want to go. This is true not only for his enemies, but his closest friends and family.
As a Dune fan for decades this trailer was great.I hope they find a kid as good as young James McAvoy to be in the sequels. We at least need a Messiah with Timothy and Zendaya.
I love how they sneak in direct quotes from the books like that! It’s like a little wink and nod to the book fans. The last trailer had a couple like that as well
I'm really hoping they will rerelease DUNE Part 1 in IMAX before they release Part 2. I still haven't watched Part 1 because I never got to see it at the cinema (for obvious reasons) and I really want to see it at the (IMAX) cinema before I watch Part 2.
Great breakdown you two. BTW the Dune audiobook on Audible is incredible. I listened last year and it makes me *more* excited to see part 2, not less. There are sevearl parts in the second half that I've re-listened to multiple times because they are so exciting.
Well technically Jaby, the beginning song of The Lion King, "The Circle of Life," was produced by Elton John and Tim Rice. Hans Zimmer only had composed the score of the movie, not the song.
I'm pretty sure everything Dune is heavily influenced by Lawrenc of Arabia. Heck, the director of LoA was going to do the original Dune movie before David Lynch and Jodorowsky.
I'm just finding out now that Hans Zimmer contributed to The Lion King soundtrack? I just looked it up and its all the most memorable non-lyrical ones, wtf!
I'm SOOO happy they're putting the anti-hero-worship criticism of myth and savior fantasies in the actual trailer! Very easy to take the wrong lesson, and this lesson is the USP of the story! ❤❤🪱
“Do you believe in Paul?” “Do you believe in me?” “I don’t care what you believe. I believe.” “This prophecy is how they enslave us” “A Prophet. Why not use it?” “Because all my visions lead to horror.”
@zekomi9293 It at least uses a lot of the major dramatic reveals to sell itself. I feel like if I had seen the trailer I'd be doing that Leonardo Dicaprio pointing meme constantly.
i just watched the first dune the other day, not really caring that much going into it, but i was blown away. it was such an incredible story and it was visually stunning! I can see why it was praised by so many people now, and I wish I could have seen it in theaters. i will definitely see the new one in theaters in imax for sure.
Hopefully you will get to see part 2 in Cinema. I saw it for the first time last yeah and remember not really caring when it came out in theaters as well, which i regret so much now. Have watched it 6 times now 🤣
J.L. Borges says in his book Oral: "Literature is an extension of memory and imagination." When you think you are going to see the image that the Director and his team are developing, you have to interact with the reaction of those who are witnessing the scene. Villeneuve gives us the opportunity and invites us to participate, create, imagine, build in our minds... a universe of infinite possibilities. He is a Whisperer of Worlds!
I haven’t read the books. Only the graphic novels (which have not even covered a full book yet.) the graphic novels are a great entry way because I haven’t got the time to dedicate to reading a novel that big right now 🥺
@@Achara thank you for responding. The religious complexities and jihad of the novels may not be clear or examined in the film. So far this seems to be showing it a bit better than the earlier movie. BTW did you know that Patrick Stewart (aka Captain Picard) played Gurney in the earlier movie version of Dune?

Jihad is coming. Paul gonna bring so much pain in Universe.
When you were talking about Imax films, not sure what you thought of Blade Runner 2049 (another Denis Villeneuve film), but that in Imax was glorious as well.
Probably not. Denis Villeneuve will probably adapt Dune Messiah, the second novel, if Part Two is a success. Plus there's also the spin-off Bene Gesserit television series in the works.
All my life I played for the Harkonens, after the first film I regretted that I had chosen this race, and now my mother says such words to Paul, I don’t even know what to think about the Atreides) and the question is, did it seem to me or Timothy’s voice was made more menacing?
I love to watch peoples' reactions to the trailers and the movies. There are 26 books in the series. The books written by Frank Herbert are: Dune (1965) Dune Messiah (1969) Children of Dune (1976) God Emperor of Dune (1981) Heretics of Dune (1984) Chapterhouse: Dune (1985) The rest of the books in the series were written by Brian Herbert, Frank's son, and Kevin J. Anderson, both science fiction authors in their own right. I'm not saying I'm a Dune fangirl. But, I have all 26 books in paperback form, all of them in ebook form, and all of them in audiobook form. *eye twitches* I detested the Lynch version. Usually people either love or hate that one. The plot wasn't bad but even Patrick Stewart's acting couldn't save that one. The Children of Dune miniseries wasn't perfect, with some of the plot changes, but it was much better than the original Dune. I wish we'd been able to see Jodorosky's version of it. Having said that, I LOVED this movie. The was a meme going around on Facebook a while back. It encapsulates, for me, the flavor of the entire series, and is in two images. In the first image, a couple is laying in bed and the woman tells the man, "honey, please wake up our son". In the second image, the man is holding the boy and says, "Paul Atreides isn't really a "good guy". Neither is his son, Leto II, or the Bene Gesserit. All the characters in Dune have very serious flaws. With Dune, Frank Herbert is warning the reader of the dangers of charismatic leaders". In the books, there ARE no "good guys", only "some guys better than others". Paul's mother, for example, at one point, murders 10 people at a banquet for political expediency. I started reading science fiction in 1969, after watching the landing on the Moon, and have continued reading both science fiction and fantasy over the last half century. In my opinion, the Dune saga is overall the best series ever written in the science fiction genre, and in the top five of fiction genres in general, which includes: The Hobbit and the LotR trilogy and Silmarillion, by Tolkien The Foreigner series by CJ Cherryh The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson and, finally, The Dark Tower by Stephen King. Thank you for reacting to it!
I would say that more attention should be paid to day trading as it is less affected by the imrevisibility of the market. I have traded more than 9 BTC in the day with information and graphics from Steven Rich. It is one step ahead of other analysts. The team has become a favorite over the years...‼‼
What impresses me the most about Steven Rich is how well he explains the basic concept of winning before you can use his trading signals. This goes a long way in ensuring successful transactions.
This is the original messiah complex or white savior for modern fantasy/sci fi. All movies since the 60s would have been influenced by Dune. Luke Skywalker is Paul. So are many other stories. Honestly you are not seeing other stories in Dune you are seeing them being influenced by Dune.
In the second book there is a moment where Paul laughs at Hitler, Stalin and the rest saying that a few tenths of million is nothing, he killed billions. The second books is actually called Dune Messiah. The Dune Saga is much more than a white saviour story.
@@AlecsStan He actually wrote the next two books because he saw the first book as a white savior story and he wanted to change the narrative of Paul. You should get the narrative in the first book. However it was an effort by Herbert to change it with the next stories.
@@rnkelly36even in the first book u can see that its not ah white savior story Paul and Jessica are literally manipulating the Freman the entire time they were with them
Be patient, Dune is an amazing story, entire first movie is just slow warm up. It is really quite complex story with no good or bad guys and no hero to save the day
