That was perfection! Best outcome ever! Thematic as always, this game does exploring and adventuring as no other. Its also a very quick game. So underappreciated

Great play through.. some things You forgot to take a rune, in rotating room you should not draw a dungeon card, in combat you do not discard your hand but draw up to 5 or 6 for your hero. When you draw a portcullis you enter without rolling strength only exiting through one do you need to test strength. You do not discard determination tokens unless you use them.

In third edition, you do discard determination tokens whether you use them or not. p.23 "When the encounter is finally resolved (whether by suceeding at the test or giving up the attempt), the hero discards all of his determination tokens." There is a variant on p.25,"Focused Determination" , that lets you keep unused determination tokens.

Wow so close ... thanks for visiting the catacombs was good to see the different levels of the game, and how combat is worked out, been finding that confusing, thought only cards that match the player kind, ... maybe have to play home rules. Found a copy on eBay, doing research to make my own game one day, hopefully, but in a different realm :) cheers

The card-based combat is dumb. Should be reserved for a boss battle. AND, after resolving the time-consuming combat, the victorious player gets ZERO treasure.

Every battle is a boss battle. You're unlikely to encounter more than three monsters pr. playthrough - sometimes none in multiplayer. I downloaded the game on Tabletop Simulator - it came with two sets of Combat Cards (and revised ed.'s Roshambo, if you prefer that, similar to the original). First the ones shown here (4 of each 1-3 value, 2x Magic 4s, 3x Melee 4s, and 4x Ranged 4s). Then 4 cards for every hero and monster, most of which were a family of special abilities (the Archer prevents Counterattacks, the Sorcerer cancels combat types, the Barbarian auto-adds to damage stack, the Golem doesn't add to combat stack, the Druid manipulates card draws, the Skeleton gets +2 to Power under specific conditions, etc.) by various mechanics, some had 3 weaker cards of one type, and a power card of another. And some cards were just Power 5 or Power 6 cards. All of them without counter-attack. And they had one more icon on them, for heroes, it was a number between 1 and 5 (all 0 for Kreutzbeck), and the monsters had a light number and dark number on them in hemispheres. One of the heroes Tatiana had a really lucky run, in spite of getting the Imp, she used her healing rune and had only 1 Wound, and she plowed through a spider web and immediately dropped her Rope and a bracelet, to dart over two Bridges in a row, but then in the last room before the exit, they decided that a Swinging Blade Trap is an Armor test for some reason. She had no Determination, so had to roll a 4 or less, or get herself bisected. But yeah, the Imp would've stolen her 1200 gold treasure anyway. The druid got herself walled-in right next to the Treasure Room, and the elf got stung by a scorpion, fell into a viper pit, and triggered a Poison Gas trap, so he died to my poison house rule, where I make a die green, then use it as timer; every time it goes below 1, hero loses a Lifepoint, rolls d6 for a 6 to end the poison. And with three sources of poison, the timer drops by 3 every turn / poison tick every 1.5 turns.
