Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Reaction! 

I made a bad thumbnail because I liked the "slightly blurry" thing so much.

This movie has no right being as good as it is. I've never actually played D&D but I've seen plenty of livestreams and it's a lot of fun. This movie really captures how chaotic the nature of it can get.

Elminster (Simon's ancestor) is a huge character in D&D, and has stared in several novels. While the CR cast didn't get a cameo, they did get a mention. Fresh Cut Grass is Sam's character in campaign 3. And the characters from the original D&D cartoon from the 80s were the survivors from the maze.

There was a Dungeons and Dragons cartoon in the 80's. The party in the show is one of the teams in the arena.

In the prologue, when Holga completely wrecks the guy in their prison cell, I wouldn't mind if Edgin said something like "Holga's not so bad once you get to know her. Problem is, I do _and you don't."_

That Bradley Cooper plays his role completely straight and full of sincerity will never not amuse me.

The great thing about Simon's arc is that he is a sorcerer. Which is a Charisma-based spellcaster. And charisma is based on multiple factors, such as appearance, wit, etc, but also self-confidence. And Simon only reached his full potential once he gained that confidence.

"SHE'S THROWING POTATOES!" Has so much impact on this story and I am here for it like Samwise Gamgee.

So I read the prequel tie-in novels for this film and in the one focused on Doric there’s a chapter where she meets Simon and then they part ways after as they’re going different places. They meet in another chapter and she has no idea who he is even though he thought he made a big impression before parting ways again. And finally she’s given a letter by a friend of hers who described Simon’s appearance and was like “do you know someone like that?” and Doric is like “I have no clue. No one comes to mind.” I laughed out loud in the theater when she was like “Who are you?” because that is exactly their dynamic in the book xD

This movie is so much fun! It is so chaotic and funny. The best part is that it’s perfect for those who have played D&D and also for those who know nothing about it. It is a fun fantasy movie either way!

The "Fresh Cut Grass" Spell is actually a Critical Role easter egg. It is the name of Sam's character in Campaign 3 of Critical Role.

It's funny that you mentioned the arena as being a good place for a cameo. The characters from the 80s D&D cartoon make up the other adventurer group that gets trapped in the cage.

I love the fact that the palidan was a NPC the DM had help the party.

After a lot of consideration (well, I only saw it a few days ago), I think one of the key elements about this movie is that it's just REALLY well-written. It's ability to communicate and convey a lot of emotional impact in only a minute or two, just... chef's kiss.

I watched this movie twice in one weekend I loved it so much❤

Finally watched the movie. It was a ton of fun. Felt like an adventure that was shortened down in a retelling, but kept everything important. The DMPC paladin Xenc guy stayed as long as he needed, and left as soon as he wasn't. The party was pretty fun though i do wish the bard character way actually able to do something more with his music. The sorcerer was pretty cool, I liked that as he got more confident his magic seemed to get more powerful as well, like his charisma based magic came from his confidence that his spells would work. The more sure if himself he was, the stronger the magic was. And i like he was a wild magic sorcerer as well. I like they used the actual dragon from the canon in the underdark part and kept that he was a chonky boy. I'd definitely let the druid turn into an owlbear if they had seen one. Rule of cool is worth it sometimes. Sofina was a fun boss character setting up the bigger boss. Forge was just what i expected when they introduced him as a conman. One of my favorite jokes in the movie is near the beginning when they're escaping using the arococra and the judges reveal they were going to be released if they hadn't. Feels like something a DM would reveal at that specific time.

I watched this at my local cinema last weekend 🇬🇧 It was a very good time, remarkably funny & you could see the 150M it cost to make. I'd love a sequel with this cast but i fear it wont get one as it's only made 195M worldwide sadly 😮

So, if you're not much into DnD, there's a bit of info that makes the Intellect Devourer scene amazing... Simon, Edgin and Zenk as a sorceror, bard and paladin respectfully use Charisma as their highest character stat for spells and abilities. Doric is a druid, they go by Wisdom. Holga is a barbarian and Strength is their most useful stat. None of them use Intelligence in any meaningful way so often it's the lowest one. The Hither-Tither staff is definitely an item the DM pulled out of his butt when the players mess up his careful puzzle encounter and effectively break the campaign. One that they definitely regret giving the party afterwards when they start using it in all kinds of creative ways. Which is why the plan to get into the vault went wrong due to Word of God. Zenk is what we call DMNPC. The obvious DM insert character who has all the answers, the extra levels and all the everything. Which is also why he had to go once his job was done and the party was back on track for the plot.

I had the same feeling… for some reason, I really like the humor here, but I thought the humor in MCU movies were too much? I do hope there is a sequel. Hopefully, this catch on in streaming or VOD because not enough people went to the theaters even though I saw it 3 or 4 times already. Just so much fun.
