In 1999 Sumitomo and Goodyear commenced a joint venture by which Sumitomo continued to manufacture all Japanese-made tyres under the brand name Dunlop.
Yes, compare it to Korea's Nexen plant and you can see why they are 1/3 of the price. Fully automated from truck delivering to taking tyres away. No blokes hauling pallet trucks round and pulling levers on big bertha machines.
l was employed at Dunlop motorsport Birmingham when it was closed down it was a very sad day. Everyone of the ex employees l have spoken to would go back tomorrow. Still l suppose the yanks know best !
at the 1:30 mark in the video the tour takes you to the chemical compounding mixing room... is it just me or is that place filthy... I would have expected something a little more high tech or at least clean... ?
