It would be impossible to imagine Roland JUPITER Synthesizers without thinking of Nick Rhodes. Nick is as much a member of the Roland family as any team member and his DNA has been woven into our company. We offer our huge congratulations and thanks to Nick for accepting our 2021 Roland Lifetime Achievement Award.
I'm 49. When I was your age there was a generational gap that was disheartening, our parents seem to live in other totally different world than us (though we loved them), and I never encountered young people like you until recent years, with the musical taste, knowledge and mind openness to enjoy music from the past (like I did when I was your age). I also think I was born in the wrong generation, I enjoy the music that many bands do today, I wish I could live 100 years more to see what's next. A big hug, keep enjoying the Music!
Never say that, this is the best generation to be, even if 80's or whatever look cool, it not was the best time to live, back then was a lot of prejudices, and not much freedom as today, as well no internet if you like this band now you can see them anytime you want even live concerts as much as you want, you still young and much more and better times is coming for you, never desire the past but look ahead for the future
It's true: Nick Rhodes is the only keyboard player who really looks great on stage. He epitomises the keyboard player as a creator of both simple, but elegant melodies (as Kraftwerk did) and richly textured soundscapes. I particulary admire his unique work on Big Thing, Medazzaland and Pop Trash. Many congratulations. Here's hoping many more accolades will continue to befall you, Mr Rhodes!
@@thevoid99 You're right of course. And DD have always been huge fans of Roxy Music, so he was a major influence on Nick. Nick was not the first, but as far as I know Brian Eno still records and produces, but no longer appears on stage.
I still get chills up my spine every time I hear the intro arpeggio to Careless Memories. Legendary, and important for a then, 17 year old Nick Rhodes.
Yes. Roxy music were and are a huge influence to DD. Bless both of these bands. Congratulations Nick Rhodes. I'm 51 now. Just found out that he was given this award.
Nick Rhodes has always been an underrated musician. Congratulations, Nick. After 40+ years finally great musicians recognize your talent and the influence of your technique on their own. Long life to Duran Duran. Did you know that the world was lonely, too?

This is awesome! He is called The Controller for a damn good reason! Does anyone else besides me think Duran Duran should be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame? Can Roland and everybody who loves Duran Duran like I do, not to take attention from Nick getting this well deserved award who I think is part of the greatest band in the world, awesome, can the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame be next for Duran Duran? FEEDBACK!!! Thanks Nick!
duran duran should've been in the rock n roll hall of fame years ago. the reason they're not going to get in is because they're considered too pop. well fuck that shit. abba, janet jackson, and whitney houston are in the rock hall. duran duran should be in there but there's so many others that aren't in such as big star, mc5, kraftwerk, joy division/new order, judas priest, rainbow, and many others.
You're absolutely correct Chris. DD need to be given some HOF award/accolade as they have persisted like no other band has in the history of Rock/Pop. They deserve a HOF award!
@@luisdelvalle1965 I know! It does not make sense at all. They built MTV!!! They built the standard for Great music videos! Is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trying to pull a Susan Lucci on us? Some acts aren't in the Rock and Roll universe! Who is more rock than John Taylor playing that Fookin Bass???
He is such a great guy, and I love watching him perform. I think he and Bowie are two of the most gorgeous men I've ever seen in my lifetime, which is getting to be a long one!!!

Cannot think of anyone on this planet who deserves this honor more. Nick Rhodes is simply one the most talented individuals to consistently fly under the radar that ever existed.
Congratulations Nick. You are simply the best, there is. Along with Duran Duran, you have shaped the music of my life. From your fan in Malaysia with love 🇲🇾❤️
Nick Rhodes is my idol & always will be. So stylish, talented & he loves synthesizers as much as me! I love Roland synthesizers, Nick Rhodes & Duran Duran!

OMG OMG OMG!!! YESSSSS!! I'm an 80s girl and have been a Duranie since they landed on the music scene!! Nick is the baddest, the coolest, the most wonderful musician ever!! Nick is the king! Congratulations Nick!! We love you!!
so awesome to see Nick and DD in general starting to get some of the accolades so easily thrown to others for all these years. so great to go from the days of, "John Taylor... best bass, or best face?" to Nick earning a lifetime achievement award from a major player like Roland... and then all of the well wishes from other artists from across the whole rainbow of popular music. Next stop... Nick and the boys are going to finally get into the HoF where they F'ing belong!
As fans of DD listening to the music and going to their concerts/gigs was amazing. You're absolutely right; I was amazed that DD weren't offered the accolades they deserved. Admittedly, they are the perfect band, and everyone is copying them.
My boyfriend favorite band member.. Since the early 80's in grade school. Grade 5... A girl named grace was the one who introduced Duran Duran to him. He's will always forever be grateful to her. ❤️

Congratulations, Nick! Such a brilliant artist and a beautiful soul. I love seeing all of these working pro musicians being so kind, supportive, and genuinely happy for Nick, cheering him on in their socially-distanced way. This whole video warmed my soul on this icy February day in this pandemic. May we all get back to in-person collaborative work and performance soon. Until then, stay healthy everyone... and congratulations again to the visionary Nick Rhodes.
When I was 11 yrs old, in 1982, I took a trip to CA and while there visiting family, I turned 12 & was introduced to malls, record stores, MTV and Duran Duran. They became my life for the next two or three years. I came back home to SC a month later bringing all that back with me and introduced it all to my younger siblings. At 13, I got to see DD in concert in Columbia SC and was a huge teeny bopper who was crazy over DD and specially Nick, who was my favorite. Now that I’m 50 yrs young, I have the best time driving around and love listening and singing along to all my favorite DD songs and many other favorite 80’s music. Congratulations Nick! Thanks for making amazing music!

Nick has put sounds into the Universe that will forever be remembered exclusively as Nick Rhodes\Duran Duran\Arcadia. When you hear those sounds, you know they came from Nick Rhodes. Thank You Nick.
Congrats! Nick should earn an award for most influential fashionista also; there hasn’t been another keyboard player that I know with so much style and taste for dress and look. Would like to have him create a Retro Synth Wave album sometime.
Nick Rhodes deserves a thousand awards. A genius. Different sounds, every song. Amazing and beautiful. And I"m a lucky guy who was on tour in 2012 with Duran Duran as a PATCHMAN, IN BRAZIL, SANTIAGO (CHILE) and BUENOS AIRES. Amazing shows. Long life for Nick and Duran Duran.

I’ve been a D2 fan since 1981/82. I was 12 when I begged my parents to buy a Roland for me. Thanks for the exposure to Roland. Thank you for the many decades of music and for being my first rockstar crush😃🥰 Long life, sir and Congratulations!
Congratulations goes out to Nick Rhodes. He truly is phenomenal and this is very well deserved!! Nick you are the keyboard genius!!! You are truly a wonderful person and care about us fans...for that I thank you.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you for the wonderful music, past, present and future! You and the boys always uplift us Duranies and we thank you for the soundtrack to so many lives. Keep playing, we're listening! Congratulations Nick Rhodes!! 👏👏👏
My mother bought me a Roland JX-3P...because I loved Duran Duran so much and wanted to be like you, Nick Rhodes. As you are aware, most musicians back then...were far too poor to buy a synthesizer, however...Roland made their instruments affordable; and built them to last. My brother James "Jae-E" Earley immediately took over my keyboard and began programming drums and arpeggiated songs on the synth. As your label mate at Capitol Records...he later went on to produce MC Hammer (all of his big hits), E-40, En Vogue, David Bowie and Marky Mark, etc. He has also worked with Jimmy Iovine...and mentored H.E.R. Thank you Nick for your timeless music, and for making a unique mark on the 80s. You and Duran Duran really know how to write a hook/chorus, rhythm track and melody. They say that one should never meet their heroes, and maybe that is why we never met? That said, I met David Bowie via my brother--and what a nice guy he was. I imagine that--you are the same. Congratulations on your award.
A true musician, songwriter and producer. Loved the way he produced Kajagoogoo and many other artistes. Great job for being a legend in a legendary band!
A 14 year old girl ; in the early 80's; went over to her friends house and she heard for the first time a band; Duran Duran; that she would immediately love 💕. That 14 year old was me. Congratulations Nick!
Nick is one of those keyboardists that made us dream and want to get a synth to rock the world. I listened Duran Duran as a child and keep loving them today. Well deserved award!! 👏👏👏
Congratulations nick, you truly deserve it, i have been a Duran fan since 1982, looking forward to hearing the new album and seeing u on tour again soon
